Now I get it. Choose a PA(RT) number corresponding to the CV/Gate 1-4, after choosing 4M LAYOUT. This gets cryptic fast. Thank you.

Great and concise tutorial. You've got an obvious talent for explaining this stuff. Thank you.

Yarns is an absurdly powerful module, yet actually fairly intuitive once you're in the mindset to use it. Classic "gets rusty quick" module with that cryptic display and deep menu system, but I'm actually enjoying the use of Yarns while networking Ableton with my modular for sound design & production purposes for my upcoming album.
99% of my time on modular has been spent AVOIDING the computer / MIDI / standard piano keyboards, so I'm glad to have such a powerful Mutable Instruments design at hand as I set out to bend the 7U case to Ableton's will...

Awesome video. I'm about to get one. I was wondering if I can use this while using 2 CV out to play with two differents VCO but with different sequences .. ? Thank you :-)

You ever make that Grids video you were talking about?

Jonathan Peros Still don't have one! I love grids too... hopefully soon, thanks for reminding me.

Alright, thanks! I've got one, and I'm reading up on making the most of it for glitchy breakbeat stuff. :)

As far as I understand, it is possible to program Yarns by sending it MIDI CC messages. If this is true, then Yarns + a MIDI controller app like Lemur could be a fantastic performance tool for a modular setup, right?

+Korhan Erel That would certainly work, however you'd need some sort of ipad to midi device (or if you are using a Lemur hardware controller, a computer to MIDI interface) to plug into Yarns. There is also an app for your computer that you can use to reprogram Yarns via MIDI.

Mutable Instruments CVPal + CCK cable would do the trick.

+Voltage Control Lab I have an iConnect2+, so that's not a problem. The problem is to justify buying a Yarns and then find the money to do that :) Thank you for the response.

+Cazaq The CVPal is not available anymore, as far as I know.

Is there a way to clear a sequence on Yarns ?

Wew, the squarp pyramid or yamaha tenori-on make this so much easier. Nothing against Mutable Instruments, I love their audio modules, but I'm muuuuuch to impatient to put this module to use.

Can the part rhythms be changed on the fly, while the Euclidan rhythms are being played?

  • @MrFlatlandcycle

When I hold the START/STOP the display flashes between "ER" and "//". It doesn't go to a MIDI note. I must be missing a setting in one of the parameters...so far this module has given me the most trouble of all l my modules. I'm banging my head hard against the manual. I'm starting to think the firmware might be off somehow???

My Yarns has spontaneously started working as your video describes. I was going for the screwdriver to remove it from my rack. I guess that's what was required, the threat of banishment. It was acting as if it was receiving an external MIDI signal, when no physical connection existed.

ich stelle das gleiche ein ...aber mein yarns tut keine veränderung. was mache ich falsch? :(

You need to set the AR to 1 for each PA(rt), I thought it was global.
