      Thomas Gunter You mean when it reads 22:1? No, that's called decel fuel cut and it's a standard feature of the stock ECU. Shuts off the injectors while your off throttle & coasting to save fuel. Now running 15:1 in boost, that's due to not enough fuel pressure. Doesn't necessarily need a tune, just needs something that adds fuel pressure with boost like an FMU.

      R. Côté If you don't know what the actual problem is you could use a blanket term like that, yes. But it's really due to the lack of a rising rate FMU, mandatory for stock ECU+boost applications.

      +Kyegar Talbert Depends on the engine. I think that 200sx's with the SR-20DET have a typical air fuel of around 12-14, I could be totally wrong though.

      +Fletcher Hyslop The type of engine you have doesn't have much to do what what AFR you should be WOT at. AFR is a ratio that needs to be at a certain target under WOT + boost to keep the cylinders cooled via a complete burn being a tad richer than an NA car.

    You still running a MAF right? MAFs don't like open atmosphere blow off valves. Also, 15.5-16 AFR is lean. Your exhaust gas temperatures are probably through the roof. Get that megasquirt in there! In the meantime, you could run a rising rate FPR, it may run rich around town, but at least it'll be safe. For reference, I own a turbo miata, I keep it at around 11.5-11.7 AFR in boost.

      Figured this out after I posted this lol good thing I put the gauge in there! Upgrading the fmu and fpr very soon! For now I'm just going to daily it and stay out of boost thank you everyone for the heads up!

      +Opt Truth. His maf is pre turbo. That's why when he lets off throttle, the engine has already received the signal for how much air has gone into the motor, but the blow off valve released all of the air, and the ecu is fueling the motor for that much air. It's better to be rich than lean, but "fuck all the butthurts amirite!!!"

      +David Morgan Yup, I had a Sentra with an sr20det, the MAF hated the BOV... Wouldn't even idle. I recirculated the BOV back into the turbo inlet, and all was good. Now with the Miata, i'm using Megasquirt, so that MAF bullshit is gone lol choo choo noises all day.

    For all new tuners !
    If your hitting Fuel Cut on a stock ecu and a "ghost" tune, try an Electrical Fuel Cut Defender that wires inline with your MAF or MAP sensor and it will hold a certain voltage that stops the ECU from Seeing positive pressure (boost) and this will eliminate the fuel cut
    Search eBay, should be around $30 if you can find one

    Part throttle afr is good, but I'm seeing high 15s to 16 at wot. That seems really lean to me. I wouldn't push the car too hard unless you get it dyno tuned. The open dump sounds mean. :)

    16 AFR is lean while in boost. Once you're on standalone you'll wanna be around 13-12.5 AFR in boost. The reason you're probably dying while going into neutral is because that blow off valve is venting to atmosphere and you're still running an AFM. So you are pulling in air that then loosing that metered air when it blows off making it run rich and stall. But again once you're running megasquirt use the maps sensor and you won't have that issue anymore. Miata's are nice because there are a million .msq's for them floating around and everyone on the megasquirt support forum is super helpful.

    It does that when your foot is off the gas because the fuel enjectors are closed so your getting more air then fuel. It runs perfectly fine. Congrats on the build.

    The reason who your AFR goes full lean when you take your foot off the gas is the ECU is programed to cut fuel if you are decelerating in gear. My old Escort did it and my Mazda 3 does it too. Also, it may seem to run fine but 15-16:1 AFR under boost is really bad and will get you a hole melted in your pistons! It should probably be around 12:1, maybe lower. However, you can still drive it as long as you stay out of the boost.

    That things lean af at wot! Your gonna melt her down, safe afs at wot should be around 11.5 and like 12 for max power. Not hating on you just letting you know that u might want to take it easy or if u have the injectors to support adding more fuel and a afpr then add some fuel to it.

    The main thing you should check when seeing that your car turns off is your Blow Off Valve. That turning off comes from a "Vented to Atmosphere" Blow off Valve, if you get a recirculating BOV you would be mint

    If you keep the MAF and the BOV setup, put the maf on the pressurized side with the bov before it. This way no air is released from the system after its been metered and had fueling based off the reading. And like said below just be careful being that lean under boost, will burn a piston or detonate easily. And take that vent tube off the intake manifold to the valve cover and cap the manifold so it doesnt introduce positive pressure into the crankcase

    Dude, turbo Miata owner here, you really need to hook up that megasquirt and get your AFRs in the 12.5-12 range in boost. Running even 14.7 is asking for detonation and a blown motor, you're up around 15-16 in boost. I'm sure it's making great power, and maybe you can't hear it, but you're destroying the engine. Not trying to harsh your buzz, just want your awesome project to last for ya ;)

    Question @RicerMiata are you running a catch can. Idk if you'll have this issue but a catch can is used to catch the excess oil and gas vapours that build up inside the intake and catches the oil and gas that blows past the piston rings. The stalling could be attributed to oil and shit building up in the cylinder heads or intake at high rpm , and that mixed with a restrictive exhaust could mess the air fuel ratio up. Idk man just grasping at straws because I don't know everything done to it but I think if you're not running a catch can try that and see if that solves your issue.

    try recirculating your blow off valve back into your intake tube between your turbo inlet and your MAF sensor. you spike rich because the ecu compensated with more fuel for the extra air that you are just dumping to the atmosphere. Thats my guess. good job tho guys.

    Run a catch can set up to help the car, also change your sparkplugs to 1 colder, thicker oil and if you haven't already run bigger injectors/fuel pump and if you can and have to coin please do get it tuned it'll ease the car and help it run mint with no issues :D

    Chris, not hating seriously but if you want to keep using that engine without having to rebuild it I would suggest getting some more fuel in there under boost. Right now you are running beyond lean under boost. Correcting the fueling will also give you more power.
    Your AFR is fine at idle because idle conditions are pretty much identical to stock with stock injectors. You only need to correct the fueling under boost conditions.
    Your AFR goes super lean under deceleration because your ECU cuts fueling. That is normal.

    Rudnick, 15.5 on boost is too lean, you will melt your piston if you keep boosting for long periods. You want it around 11.5-12. Cutting out issue is due to your blow off valve, its dumping air that your MAF has calculated fuel for, so it goes rich and cuts out. Remove the blow off valve or recirculate it so it dumps back into the intake after the MAF

    Take that pcv line that goes from your intake manifold and either plumb it to the inlet side of your turbo, simply disconnect it, or knock out the valve and stick a breather on it. Pressure in the crankcase is no bueno. Otherwise things are looking dope!

    Its called injector pulse width (amount of time the injector is open.) The higher the pulse width the longer the injector is held open and the more fuel is injected into the combustion chamber. In his case the duty cycle has exceeded 100% signifying the injectors are no longer closing (or pulsing). They just stay open constantly.
    Increasing rail pressure essential increases the pressure differential from manifold to rail and in turn increases injector size.
    injector at 3 bar (43.5) is completely different at 4 bar (58). Theres more pressure behind the opening of the injector and greater pressure differential between the two sides.
    increasing fp increases injector size not only at WOT but also part and idle.
    The reason. behind the cats throwing off your wideband reading is because of cat over temp protection where the pcm will command richer mixtures in order to cool the cat to acceptable tempatures.

    the intake and exhaust side of your valve covers are connected. so even though u capped off the exhaust side. the pressure is still being scavanged out of the valve cover by your intake cam side. u have that hose from ur valve cover to your i take manifold which creates a negative pressure.

    When you boost it then throw it in to neutral all the air gets blown out from the bov and since you have your maf infront of the turbo the maf sensor read all that air that just got blown out and then goes completely rich and then just dies out. to fix it plumb your maf in the intercooler piping @ricer miata

      +Keelan Coates your bov is recirculating , he could also have his bov recirculate to fix it but knowing him having the bov to atmosphere is jdm tightness

    rudnik take the hose off the valve cover from the manifold. youre boosting your whole crankcase... youll get better response as well.
