I'm tracking my progress as I create Parcel #1, and hopefully shedding some insight into the comic making process. In this video, we're looking at the writing and concept art aspects of making a comic, everything that comes before the drawing.

I felt attacked when you said how someone can be so obsessed with perfecting the comic and not even start making it lmao ive been working on designing a comic of my own for a long time and i havent even started. This was a big wake up call. Thank you
+JoJo Corgibun I’m glad it was a good attack 😆 when I cautioned it’s because I’ve totally done the same thing before. Planning is definitely a good thing, over doing it is a problem. I think it’s up to everyone to figure out where that line is.
same oh my god. I've been working on a graphic novel for literally 5 years. Haven't started it, but I have the whole plot ready to go. Hopefully this series will kick my ass
I bet you still havent started.....dont lie and except it
Same here. That has been my problem for years.
Same as everyone here. I've been thinking of a comic for like a year and I exactly know the whole story etc,.. I just never manage to start drawing it seriously. I did the first panel but I don't think I will be able to draw it regurarly. I'm also sketching the characters everywhere, like in my notebooks..
I'm honestly impressed how much effort you plan on putting into this. Comics are hard to finish even if they are small.
Absolutely! That's why I'm restarting with "just" an issue. On top of videos and freelance work it's definitely a lot!

Yep, that's pretty much where I've been stuck for the last 10 years.
That and not being satisfied with my skills.
Finally! A video that is informative, entertaining, AND concise.
Nice! I just bought my computer yesterday as well as photoshop, and I've been writing my own comic! Woohoo!
👏 Awesome!!
Cut Grass
Wish ya luck
Thank you guys!! It means a lot
Deleted Channel I know that this might be a little late, but I’ve found that manga studio/clip studio paint is a better program to make comics in.
how did it go?
Thank you for this! Im making a comic and i really dont want this project to fail (ive had many book projects fail, this is my first real comic and Ill do anything to make it properly and see it actually come to life. I love it to bits)! Ive been watching so many of your videos, theyre all so helpful. : D
I've been in writing and preproduction for my comic for almost a year. I would've liked to start earlier, but I'm missing supplies and just generally out of time.
Parcel's Gma came out very adorable! Looking forward to following you on this project.
+8Ravix8 Thank you! Looking forward to sharing more!

Omg yes! Keep doing this!
Love this series!
ahhh yes; the classic problem: how do i start? :P
Awesome! Love your videos and was just thinking about comic-making like two hours ago :D
This is really cool. Thanks for this it helped a lot.
Cucumber from cucumber quest would rather be practicing magic!
Also I love this series, lately I've been trying to make a web comic and this is going to be a big help!
I love the Comic, too.
aw sweet. im planning to start a comic soon, this should help :o
Cool
So I have a quick question, im trying to make my own comic and I understand that I should write it out first, but what I'm having trouble with is how should I format this? Is there any format that would work best for writing a comic?
5:20 "AAY"
+Vann Wallnutt AY!
Ooh! Any ideas for when this comic would come out? And great vid! I want to start getting some ideas on paper for a webcomic i want to make, and this helped set my tasks straight
Thanks! Like I said in the video I'm hoping it won't be much longer than a month! Still deciding how I will make it available to people.
Brookes Eggleston - Character Design Forge I encourage you to use tapastic and webtoon rather than having your own website. This way more people will discover it.
I'll definitely make sure people see it, however I end up doing so. I'm fairly hesitant to use sites like those, however.
I want to write a comic following a group of four. I can’t choose who I want to be the main character and I want to occasionally follow some of them more than the others. How can I do this without it seeming confusing?

I have a question about story writing. A lot of people tell me that I need to have a central theme behind it, but I have a lot of stories that do not. They are just cool stories that I made up and I don't have a particular theme that they focus on. Is this bad?
Ragnaraq Probably not, just make sure you have a consistent idea to revolve around and make sure you keep the suspension of disbelief.
Theme can add to a story, but I don't believe theme makes a story. There are stories that are thematically brilliant and philosophically profound yet completely suck.
It's important to have a theme to keep the story focused. Have everything revolve around that theme. The setting, the characters, the plot. And that theme can be whatever you want it to be. Even something with the theme of "the power of friendship" can be good as long as it isn't hamfisted as a throwaway line at the climax.
Personally, almost any story you come up with will most likely have a theme around it even if you don't see it right away. Most of my stories revolve around humor so a lot of time they might not make a whole lot of sense, they're just there for entertainment. In this instance humor would he the theme. Having a theme in mind is a good way to bring your audience to read your story.
More than likely, if you develop a story well enough it will create a theme even if you didn't sit down and consciously decide one. The theme doesn't have to be overly complicated either... basically it's the main underlying idea behind the plot. Some common themes include "good vs. evil", "betrayal", "discovery", "coming of age" etc.... I would google lists of common themes, it's really helpful for plot creation and you may even find themes in the lists that your stories have already.
A Wlcome!
Quick question how do you or should we "market" or share our comic to gain attention views and followers? Also should comics featuring the same character always be the same length or at least close or is it ok to do some short ones and some longer ones?
I use comics for a character that I'm working on a game for breaking up the dev time and do something unique different to recharge
That's an interesting question, and it will probably be the final part of this video series. I think it ultimately comes down to what you're goal with the comic is... if you have no one following you, and you want to make it freely available, you'll go about it differently than if you have an audience and want to sell the comic as a finished product. Will definitely cover in the series coming up, appreciate the question!
I appreciate the reply!
Yass
What app to you use to make cómics?
Procreate on the iPad!
My main problem with pre-planning is that I can't get more than 1 character and some other character position (can't think of another word other than position to discribe it)
Do you mean pose?
no where they are at a point in time
I have a lot of problems with ideas and concept art
You've found the right channel then!
How does anybody know before they've even started writing how many pages a particular issue is going to have to be?
ey
gah, i've rehashed page one like 9 times
I cant seem to nail down my layout
please help
I have story and even pages planned but I Just Cant seem to get past the intro page...
It can be so rough! I offer personalized help through patreon if youre interested!
That's would be awesome, your videos have been so informative so far but I'm still feeling a little disappointed with my work
Have you tried skipping that page for now? Just start drawing the next pages and then you can come back and draw the intro page!
How to start making a comic tho?
