The thing that I love about Aziraphale and Crowley’s relationship is that they were never ~really~ enemies. They were supposed to be, but they just kept coming back to each other and they always enjoyed each other’s company
I guess, because they were colleagues before Crawley's fall (at least it seems so) or at least some kind or relationship. Maybe their friendship never died? After all, Crawley wasn't truly against God to begin with, he just broke the rule by wanting to God explain His/Her wisdom.
I am so happy with the way David and Michael have stuck by Good Omens through all the uncertainty, they obviously love these characters as much as we do.
I got so much happier with the fandom and people because I can thank the people playing the characters in good omens, because I really appreciate the kindness in this fandom😊😊😊
Michael and David playing at being "more than friends" in real life is a big part of the power of the Aziraphale/Crowley ship as well. All the jokes about Michael being David's second wife or boyfriend, with Georgia and Anna playing along, the way Michael looks adoringly at David during interviews, the photo sessions where they look like a couple, the way they've totally embraced how everyone wants to see them together, so when one is scheduled to appear you often see the other one, whether it's talk shows or BAFTA… these guys are SMART, and have made the wonderful choice to really play into what the fandom wants. BUT… I knew none of these things the first time I saw Good Omens, and, with no background in shipping whatsoever, what I saw in the scene on the wall was two really hot "guys" experiencing love at first sight. It never even occurred to me that they were supposed to be anything but a couple!
Well they're really good friends after all so I think it comes really naturally and they enjoy it! I love seeing them together, it's always a lot of fun :)
I love this. Good omens is the only ever fandom I've felt welcomed in or really wanted to be a part of. And it's people like you, like us, that do that. It's a great place so thank you to everyone here :))
I agree with your comments. In my opinion azi and crowley are meant to be together from the beginning before the garden when crowley was still an angel. They love each other. Love as friends (at first) but after all these years maybe something more. I like their love in any form.
Thank you so much for this analysis. One of the things I love most about Good Omens is, that in the end it is all about love in all it forms, actually. And I also love, that there are so many things left mysterious or unclear and open to interpretation very intentionally - not only the relationships, but a lot of other things, too. That gives my imagination a lot to work with.
I think you're absolutely so correct with the malleability of the ship, and that definitely contributes to their popularity in fanfics, especially since you have such a vast sandbox to play around with - 'what if they were at this historical event', 'what if this biblical story involved both of them', 'how did this event affect them', 'what are they getting up to right now in the South Downs cottage', 'what's happening with Aziraphale up in Heaven', and the wide variety of AUs they can fit into.
The ambiguity of Crowley’s and Aziraphale's relationship and the many ways to read and interpret it means so much to me and is one of the reasons why I find this ship so appealing. I love how so many diverse people (or someone as confused by labels as me :D) can identify with them because what they are to each other isn’t spelled out (apart from the fact that they belong together of course, in whichever way). I'm a little afraid that the rescued 90 will take away this freedom because it might put a label on their relationship, but we will see :) Thanks for the great video!
I think this is a very valid great, and one that I have myself. Well we get too much detail, too much explanation? I hope not. Leave us room after the Finale, I agree!
Never heard of shipping either, although I was glad when Mulder and Scully finally did it. But with Crowley and Aziraphale it is completely different. They are representations of every human’s light and shadow. And what do we want most of all ? To feel complete, to feel as one, to love oneself, to just BE the LOVE that we are.
Back in the 90s, when I was living in Florida, going to college I watched X files and I think i was kind of shipping Mulder and Scully before "shipping" was even a thing! :)
Lots of good points here. As a writer, myself, trying to pin down just which definition of love applies to any given situation is so tough! And, yes, the word can be much overused, and misunderstood. When people respect and care for each other, showing empathy and compassion, it is always the beginning of something beautiful!
This, right here, is the first fandom I have ventured into, and that's because the unconditional acceptance and love expressed by Crowley and Aziraphale for one another, after millennia of being each other's best friend, is the underlying essence of this space. I have sought, to no avail, that 'ship', and I love seeing that even in these 'interesting times', the trope is still waving its hand, beckoning me to still believe such a ship is possible, that Love can triumph over indifference. I so appreciate your thoughtfulness, Sendarya, in creating these videos for us all to consider and providing the space to share with one another. Thank you 💟
What a wonderful topic! All this relationships in Good Omens. I love this video, thank you❣️ Personally I think the other ships are somewhat lost in the face of Azicrow's dominance. But I think that’s okay, because it’s the main interest. And I believe GO is special, nothing compares to it. Long time I thought the subtle story of Johnlock was the non plus ultra, but only until GO. Also GO has something no other TV show has: two equal rights characters.
11:24 You hit the nail on the head for Once Upon a Time and the shipped pair was SwanQueen. It was absolutely *disgusting* the way we were treated by the those writers. The other fans/fandoms of the show took the writer’s treatment of us and decided it was their green light to treat us like garbage.
Considering that the whole show is basically fan fiction, crossing over several fairy tales and fantastic stories, and heavily shipping characters, that is pretty awful.
@@TheDopekitty Asexual? You must be blind. They're raring to jump each other's bones! Couldn't think of anything else after watching S2, and fortunately found Archive of our Own in Reddit, where many fans write delightfully hot and sweet fanfic about them. Not always gay, since they're occult and/or ethereal beings who can change their corporations at will, but always very nice and beautiful. BTW, if you like Our Flag Means Death, as I do, there is also plenty of great fanfic about Ed and Stede.
Researched and learned the definition of "tinker bright" because of its use in this narrative. Also learned about "ace." So thanks for that. This was a wonderful examination of the "ship" of my very favorite characters.
It's always fun to learn new things! I never mean Tinker as a derogatory Romani term. Instead it is a reference to a fictional people based on the Romani from the Wheel of Time. Glad you enjoyed the video!
I'd never heard of shipping before "Good Omens", and I stumbled across it while trying to unravel a mystery around just why the universe (or whatever) was bombarding me with Crowley related synchronicities after I only made it to S1 E3 and the bandstand sequence, and suddenly found myself smashing my iPad against a wall and passing out (yeah, as bizarre, crazy and irrational as it sounds. I'm not even a remotely violent person). I spent eight months trying to track down what all of it meant, and ended up reading countless fan fics in the process. Some were VERY well written and wildly creative! I got my answers, and went through two years of trauma therapy to deal with them. Did it spark some creativity as well? Yes it did. Go to Ao3 and take a peak at my only submission there, titled "Da Vinci's Demon(?)". It also sparked a renewed interest in Leonardo's work which continues to today.
Yes, this shipping thing is new and weird for me as well. I did like Scully and Mulder in X-Files, but usually I don't ship anyone and in fact most of my life avoid watching any shows where people date because I dislike watching relationships. I watched almost all children's shows most of my life (and I am not young) in order to avoid that problem, and for instance I am completely indifferent (not hostile) to all of the relationships I can think of right now in WoT and skim those bits (which as we know there is still plenty to read). I don't know why Aziraphale and Crowley is so interesting to me. I'm kind of glad that I'm not the only one who doesn't ship easily though I don't know what makes me not any more than what made me that once or twice.
I Sunny know why some of us didn't feel the need to ship often. I'm with you though, especially in WoT! Love the books, can't think of a relationship that I like. Well, there's one in the end that gets me right in the heart, no spoilers for other comment readers. But it's already in the show, so... Anyway, Jordan was not great at writing romantic relationships! 💔 🤷♀️
I don’t think Aziraphale and Crowley are Enemies to Lovers because to me they were never enemies. In Eden they never threaten each other and they hit it off even though Crowley is a demon. I think God made them for each other in some way and that the attraction was always there.
Thank you for another great video. I miss your content and your voice but I had to take a break. I have about 13 main ships and do any of them have anything in common with Aziraphale and Crowley? Maybe only that they appear as men. It's been really hard for me lately thinking about how at this time last year I was so looking forward to maybe having some Creator content like the lockdown video to look forward to until season 3. As much as I do. Appreciate the rescued 90, I'm still so upset about what we could have had. However, this video reminds me so much about what I love about this fandom in the first place And all the reasons I love that angel and demon together. I'm going to go work on crossover fiction about Aziraphale giving Castiel some relationship advice while crowley kidnaps, Dean and unwittingly does the same.
Ha, that crossover sounds fun and adorable! I hope you send me a link when you finish it. I loved Castiel, one of the few things that kept me watching SPN during some of the more boggy seasons. I totally understand the need to take a break. It has been a rough few months for our fandom. I've only just re-discovered my creative spark here again.
@Sendarya I would love to send you the link if I can ever make this a coherent story. I also love Castiel who quickly became my favorite character. Destiel and the ineffable husbands are fighting for status as the flagship in my Armada.
Love this :) I've shipped many many couples before, but Azi and Crowley are among my favourites of all time. (Stede and Blackbeard as well!) Btw, ReyLo was a no-brainer, I don't get why apparently not many people got on that ship... what?! I mean really. No-brainer!!!
The only one I truly hate is Lucifer "I like girls" Morningstar (cis/het/allosexual) and Alastor (Cis/Aro/Ace), these two would NEVER be in a relationship, period! They loathe each other!

I would have loved Anna Maxwell Martin to have stayed as Beelzebub, only recently learnt that her husband had died suddenly. I do really like Maggie and Nina, I'm assuming the film will start with a couple of years gap, so hoping they will be together! Whilst it's true that Angels don't really have genders, I actually think it's important that they are presenting as male, and are male actors, so to me it is a canon slash ship. Purely because m/m canon couples aren't that common, and I feel it's important representation. I don't mind how they play it out, whether it's as asexuals or as a full on sexual relationship, that's up to them, although I do think an asexual m/m couple would be great representation as well. My hope is that they are portrayed as a couple, with the happy ever after South Downs ending that Terry and Neil used to talk about, but that it doesn't go down the route of getting into details. (I don't think they will)
One thing that is mentioned in the book but I don't think is mentioned in the series is that angels and demons can't have sexuality unless they want to. I interpret that as Crowley and Aziraphale subconsciously choosing to have sexuality and fall in love. 💗 It could also relate to how they are occult beings and don't really have a gender.
I would like to know why Crawley's eyes changed? They were human like to begin with! Plenty of demons have human-like eyes, so it cannot be a rule that fallen angels' eyes change.
We don't know for sure, but it might be a Pratchett thing. Some creatures in Disc World cannot hide their true nature through their eyes, even if they otherwise shapeshift. Otherwise, it's just cool to see David in contacts. :/ lol
Canon would be stuff that's officially happened in a fictional universe, as in not fan made. Head canon is basically what you as a fan imagine to be true about something that hasn't been established as canon. Hope that explains it somewhat!
Good question. We don't actually see either of them suggest it. They are just about to do it, and he encourages her when she hesitates. Thank you for the correction! I do feel she would not have had the strength to do it, alone.
In the novel it is probably Newt's idea. He stops Anathema (who isn't present when the box arrives and only enters after Mr Baddicombe has left) from reading the manuscript and says "Think of it like this. Do you really want to be a decendant for the rest of your life?" We don't know how exactly the scene continues, only that they burn it eventually.
I see Aziraphale and Crowley's relationship as lovers/enemies. Frienemies! These two would do their friendly bickering and teasing. Azi would get fussy with Crowley's snarky and sarcastic antics, while Crowley gets annoyed with Azi's sweetness and old-fashioned manner.😉🖤🤍
They are indeed frienemies! Maybe it's day, they were. I think they've become more after the nopocalypse. That's one thing Crowley tried to say in the confession.
The thing that I love about Aziraphale and Crowley’s relationship is that they were never ~really~ enemies. They were supposed to be, but they just kept coming back to each other and they always enjoyed each other’s company
Exactly!❤

'they like to hold hands' and that's all that matters ❤
I am so happy with the way David and Michael have stuck by Good Omens through all the uncertainty, they obviously love these characters as much as we do.
And are both just as lovable as the series.
I got so much happier with the fandom and people because I can thank the people playing the characters in good omens, because I really appreciate the kindness in this fandom😊😊😊

Thanks for making this video! This fandom has inspired me to write fiction for the first time in 15 years!
Wonderful!

It helps that their canon❤🎉
True! It's always fun for a fandom when / if their ship becomes canon.
I love shipping Aziraphale and Crowley!❤😊

I'm anti-shipping. Mostly because I'm cold hearted with no romance in my soul. Even I ship the ineffable husbands
😅
1:18 Regulus Black and James Potter? Never heard of this one before. They had no scenes together in the books or movies together...
There's a HUGE group who love this ship, but there are dozens of popular HP ships.
lol the My hero academia fandom is questionable…But I love ochako and Deku. But personally I love a bit of Bkdk. But I also love Ochako and Toga!! 💕☺️

I was an original X-Files shipper, and I never saw it called "Sculder", haha. Is that a new term?
I think most shippers do not use these combined names. I don't use Azicrow for instance.
No idea if it's new, or not!
Let's be honest, Destiel may be popular, but the real ship the show's runner implied all the time was Wincest.
I have to admit, I get Wincest. It's sort of funny, but they have chemistry

My Jhonlock! They ended bad...I do not likes "parentlock" at all!!!! 👿
I would like to cry my ptsd johnlock tears right here than you
Spirk? Not Kock?
That is EXACTLY what my husband said to me after watching the video! lol
wait...does Newt actually suggest it? or just support it?
