These short lessons are so informative, thank you.
lovely stuff
I go with barely any space when doing the hold down test. Space you can't see. As long as you hear a plink while holding down tne string between the 2nd and 3 frets, you're good. Thats small space is basically 002-005. All I need. Unless its actually sitting on the fret, imo it's not too low. Slide a piece of notebook paper under it and should have some resistance, but fit
I thought the same, but if you watch the next video, he means 18 thousands gap at 1st fret with no fretting at third fret.
is it bad my strings are pretty much hitting the fret but i have no buzz when its stung open its also very easy to play but i also dont have a heavy attack.
No, its not
What's 18 thousand? - Rest of the world
1.8 × 1041.8 × 104
~ 0.46mm
Obviously I do think metric is easier and more intuitive, but it's very impressive how American centric guitar video presenters can seemlessly step up and down fractions of an inch. It's definitely a skill that has to be learned.
Close to the size of the g string
Confusing. Why specify it has to be 4/64 to 5/64 at the 12th fret while aiming at .018" if you are holding at the 3rd fret. If you are holding at the 3rd fret, height at the 12th fret plays no role.
I think they are two different things. checking at the third fret is to set the nut correctly. Checking at the twelfth fret is to check neck relief. You can also check intonation at the 12th fret
3'rd fret is nut height.
5.....7 fret is truss rod relief.
12'th fret is string action height.
