First playing a good legato, then panting like a dog on each single note (this may still be common among many flutists but not all, but the following step certainly not), then adding the single tong to it like pronouncing “tah”, by becoming very much aware of the “h” and “ah” at the end, since it brings the greatest flexibility to the staccato, to the tone itself while using the single tong, by maintaining a continuous, stark connection to the diaphragm and keeping the staccato and the tone very smooth, vivid, accurate and vigorous at the same time. The lips do react (and they must) to it automatically, since the airstream comes then with the greatest flexibility that makes the tone very healthy, colorful and vivid. By the double-tonging I continued keeping the connection to the diaphragm as well, and while practicing it, I also started doing the backward double-tonging as you mentioned. The same way I am teaching my own students. I am really amazed, thank you very much for sharing this beautiful wisdom, since it is for me of greatest importance in order to produce a tone in the most natural way possible while articulating as well.
