    Ya and I think you should award your dad a 10/10 for putting the calves in the silage fields to tidy up around the edges. Best decision ever 10/10.🏆⭐🎉😌

    The recap is a good idea for your own management. As the years go by selective memory kicks in and you end up with a kind of blurred memory of the better bits. In 10 years time it will be something to look at again especially for the tyres, the machinery and the length of time a reseed lasts.

    The reality if nearly all of your decisions on a farm aren't good decisions you'll go broke very quickly! So don't be so surprised you've made mostly good decisions.

      Agreed, you have to get it right the vast majority of the time. Wish I said that.

    A flock of sheep will help graze down your reseeded ground and in turn help stimulate tillers to form, this creates a much denser sole / swarth to your crop,

    Thanks for doing these videos. It’s fascinating watching and hearing your thoughts and plans. I’m not surprised your plans were pretty much all successful as you’re clearly one clever guy and quite a businessman as well as electronics engineer and software developer! Had you not been a farmer I think you’d be doing very well running any business or employed in some IT related job like I am! Will be interesting to see if your prediction about grass/silage shortage comes true!

    It might be worth while trialling letting a crop of ryegrass self seed. If it increased yield in subsequent years, then do it on a rotation basis. Let it dry to shatter the seed heads & bale the grass for dry cows.

    I can tell you now Andrew, the choice between Michelin and BKT was a good one. We’ve BKT’s on our John Deere at home and I’m not impressed with them. Too fast wearing and they’re cracking!😐

      That was exactly what I was worried about. We have Bridgestone on our small Massey and I am also not impressed, they clog up with dirt so easily

    Re spraying the body panels truly enhanced the look of the tractor but it would look hugely better if you got the rims painted usually cost about 400-500 and is always worth it👍love the videos👌

    I am just wondering how you can justify having a tractor that you only have 6000 hours on after 15 years? I have the same disease but I have made the decision that I will not keep a tractor or anything with an engine unless it’s doing 1000 hours a year and if we need another tractor or loader , we hire in the contractor it just works out cheaper and it’s also helps to have the man that comes with it. We probably have to much gear for the size of our operation but by not having machines that we are not actually using for at least 1000 hours a year we are at least ensuring that what we do have is paying for itself. I know that we are fortunate to have 4/5 contractors around us that are happy enough to put in a machine at a reasonable price when asked even if it is not pulling anything ( as I said we have to much gear but at least the gear doesn’t depreciate at the speed of light!) love your content and appreciate the time and effort you put into doing these videos. Regards from Wicklow

      It works out, I will do a video on the financials of it. Our puma is now only doing 350-400hrs a year and the 8s is only doing 450-500

    Im with you on early grazing. No need to convince me. But that paddock is not recovered. It will be giving 70% of its potential max. But was still worth it. Ya have to get them out at almost any cost

    2 years ago we disced a reseed in the autumn time, it was the year of the very hot August, Not pleased with how it went at all disc was bouncing off the ground and to this day the grass is dead on its feet, thinking of getting the contractor in to panbust but you'll never beat the way of the plough!!

    • @finbarreburn5112

    You've probably biased towards 10/10 because your judgement was focusing heavily on your execution of your idea. So for example a 10/10 for a great reseed might not be a view shared by an accountant in the short term.
    Of course it's your video to scire how you like but I could sense your guilt about marking your own homework 😂

    • @adamsandrew5587
      @adamsandrew5587 3 месяца назад

      What sort of accountant wouldn't see the short term ROI purely on the rise in milk revenue?

    • @roymclean4763
      @roymclean4763 3 месяца назад

      @@adamsandrew5587perhaps I haven't made my point clearly enough. There is a period of time before the RETURNS exceed the initial investment. In a business where there is a restricted amount of capital available a great investment might have to be postponed. With reseeding it might be a short period but it's still there. That's why I said short term.
