at 0:36 you can see a blue sign saying "Tailor Cheung", that's the suit shop of Cheung Wut Hoi, Leslie Cheung's father. Leslie then became one of the biggest stars of HK in the 80s. I find it so cool that you can trace so much history in this video.

A wonderful glimpse of the past, some parts of it still remain to this day. How nice the way people dressed in the 50s.

Far too much doesn't remain unfortunately. I do love HK today but it's a shame they knocked down so much of the colonial architecture.

@@N330AA I agree that a lot of those lovely old buildings should have been preserved. Singapore have done very well on that front. Keeping the facade and bringing new purposes to the old buildings, turning into museums, hotels etc.

what a very precious video to me. I did not have such clearer idea about the HK of 1950s before. Info in the past were only texts, photos, or B/W videos. thank you. is it possible to have such clearer videos of 1940s too. how were those soldiers and civilians of that time actually. looking forward to anything great. anything is possible.

It's refreshing to see none of the townsfolk scrolling on smart phones, not even office workers in coat and tie. Today's urban scenario will have many engrossed in their phones even when walking.

The policemen looked great in their uniforms. The rickshaws were a common transportation if you carried heavy stuff. Hiring a taxi was quite expensive.

No one thought Hong Kong could replace shanghai in the 1950s and shanghai was much better than Hong Kong that time. So some Shanghainese who moved to hong Kong came back to shanghai in 1950s or early 1960s but ..........., you know the story in the late 1960s.
