Amazingly beautiful! Stunning! One of a kind and Suuuper Cooool!! I can see people around the world wanting a rugged looking knife and sheath like those. The cat skin is VERY pretty and unique looking. The gar skin has a super rugged almost made of steel look. Fantastic job! I'm going to share this one to my Facebook page.
Those sheathes are STUNNING! I mean absolutely gorgeous. Your price is more than fair for all that craftsmanship plus all the work involved in catching, cleaning and tanning the skins by John. I wish I could afford it right now but I gotta pay for this new dang knee I'm gettin. Someone is going to be one lucky devil owning something like those!!! Great job. WOW!!!! I'm so jealous. Buuuut I see my Whopper Chopper and I'm happy again! LOL Take good care. God Bless you, Momma & the family.
Wonderful work. Thank you for sharing your skills. I am getting some salmon and burbot skin for my sheaths and came across your video as I was searching for people who have made fish leather sheaths. Respect for "I am proud of everything that comes out of my shop. If I am not proud, I don't send it out." That little boy is growing up in a good place. I like his spontaneity in doing things. Mine is sort of the same age and fiddles around with my stuff. Every time I make something, he is like, "Is that for me?" He is getting his hand forged and handmade scout knife and sheath kit next year. We both are looking forward to it, for different reasons :-D Be well and stay safe mate!
You mightve seen this comment by someone else...but the top of that anvils is almost the perfect shape for a sheath press if you just flip it in its head
That gar is completely cool! B H-0 beat me to the comment, LOL! Both the knives and the sheaths look extremely well crafted! I wonder how a snakehead skin would turn out?
Jan Morse After watching JNULL & this I'd make sure you have a Good, STRONG, pair of work gloves, that's unless you have superhero strong skin on your hands lol 😂
wow a one of a kind gar sheath for that price that is a heck of a deal all custom dang.... actually it's a steal in my opinion I've never seen or heard of a sheath made out of gar skin b4 excellent job Mr rick for sure I'm wrkin on gettin that seeder out to u in a couple weeks hopefully
I bark tanned a catfish skin once.( and a big Northern Pike) It turn out really good. Still very thin, but surprisingly strong. It was very very soft and pliable, which is not what I expected from a bark tanned skin. Of course all the color was lost in both skins and now has the color of the bark tea, but they are still very cool. Next I will try tanning some grass carp.
Oh no....... I've never thought of skinning and tanning a gar! I bet that sheath is more durable then a steel sheath lol. Now I've gotta look up a how to on it. I've got 2 copperhead skins tanning right now!
Like my Dad, I make alot of stuff like this, alot of knives and Bows as well. i can say first hand, Nothing has the feel of a tool made from a catch or animal that you claimed. Very personal items.
Mr. Wallace if those 2 Gar sheaths and knives are still available I would like to buy them please tell me how and where I go to get in touch with you to pay for them. Thank You
would it be possible to put metal rivets on a gar skin sheath ? i bet if you could it would turn out awesome, dont get me wrong the one you made is cool good job man !!
Without CC, this video is of no value. With other people i the house , turning the volume up high enough to UNDERSTAND what is said, was not feasible . Hopefully your future videos are done with CC. A wee bit of history about the use of fish skins for their strength properties would enhance the reasoning behind using these materials. I don't quite understand the use of Gorilla Glue without the foaming action when properly used, as that is what is the catalyst. Great use o f natures material for your sheaths. Nothing disrespectful, just an old mans' opinion who has worked with the same products for many a year. Keep on keeping on !!!
Hi have you ever tried using Asian carp skin, they are tough as hog hide, cut big head makes good cut bait for catfish don't hook through the skin or you will have to cut off.
The gar skin sheath look great I recently caught a 50" gar and I skin him and I dried the skin it's just a raw hide I'd love to send you the materials so you could make me a case knife sheath how much would that run
Very interested in having some knee high combat moccasins made from gar skin and deer skin with a split toe like ninja boot's. Y'all know anyone able to construct this type of knee high moccasin using gar and deer skin? 😊
Hey Dalton, Check out the website, wallacehandmadeknives.com Pick the knife you want and email me at mrswimmingbear@gmail.com And we will get it going. I do have garskin availible now. Thanks for watching!
I was doing really well until around 2:59 +. You were "... cutting a pinny? in half with...EMS (X?) scissors that...??? brought you" and I cannot either understand a word you said lol, or guess at what you meant between the 'pinny & who(what?)ever brought you those Sorry. Can you help me out,? (From 2:59 - 3:10 just FYI). That Catfish skin sheath is absolutely beautiful, I didn't realise that fish skin could be preserved that way. You had a MUCH easier time getting through that Garskin than John did, he could've done with a pair of those scissors (that look just like the ones the hospital uses to cut plaster casts off your arm 😄) The finished Garskin Sheath is just stunning, do you feel as though it was a bit of a learning curve with the first one? It's certainly going to last for a long time lol.
Yep, I cut a penny in half with those scissors! My friend Master Seargent brought them over.It was a bit of a learning experience. Thanks for watching!
Wallace Kinifeworks & Homestead Oh, I'm stupid!! I tried all sorts of variations but a Penny? I didn't know that you had those in the US, My mind was stuck on why you'd be trying to cut up an Apron 😄😅 That's what we call Aprons (short for pinafore) in the UK. And Master Sergeant ? I got nowhere near that so Thank you for setting me straight. It's only happened a couple of times that I get stuck on an accent and can't understand the words but I always feel rude when I have to ask. 😆 I bet you could've sold those Cat & Garfish Sheaths 10 times over couldn't you? Did you have to sew it by hand? (I know you said you had to drill holes in it) or did your sewing machine manage with the pre-drilled holes?
YES! I have been trying to get some gator, We have a short, complex, expensive, goofy law season here so its very hard to get. E mail me at mrswimmingbear@gmail.com and we can work it out! Thank you!
