He thought he might be able to get away with it, but even if he had gotten away with it, he still has to pay the price. When someone plagiarizes, there are two crimes: first, the author is robbed of credit. Then the person who really plagiarizes is really robbed of learning something. He could have gotten suspended or at the college level expelled (if he did it twice).
I agree that he needed to accept responsibility however the mother of the defendant should not have had to pay for all of the tutors. Just for the class in which she failed. She needed to accept some responsibility as well. She spoke up in court, did she advise her instructor? Why didn’t they both review the report before submitting? I have done several group reports and they are exhausting but it was imperative that a review before submission is completed. She can’t place the blame of her needing tutors on the defendant. I hope he and his mother understand the he need for accepting accountability.
You can see the defendants’ eyes speaking, cocky and entitled. I hope his mother takes the advice given by the Judge as they seem to have a good family, we all spoil our children and then wonder when things go wrong.
I have such a hard time with mom and kid cases in which the mom refuses to see the fault in their kid when they do something bad. It's definitely not helping the kid. Pretty sad.
This case made me mad, the daughter was already struggling in that course so she was going to need a tutor anyways. That made me not want to watch this judge anymore that was completely the wrong verdict
Mom really need to wake up and tell her son to stop fooling around. Also it's not time to step up, he needed to do that from day 1, no after he ruined someone else's reputation and hard work. This young man needs a serious wake up call.
Well she clearly isn't. I don't agree with the verdict. He could have been under a lot of pressure, his grade was better than hers, and she only had a C. It's hard for adults to admit when they're wrong. Only in America.
@@14kchang Truthfully there was no point in your comment. He obviously doesn’t understand how plagiarism works and not all teachers are thorough in teaching it regardless of him being an AP student. The point of turnitin is to flag the plagiarism. He would have been able to see for himself what the final result would look like and make necessary changes. He clearly didn’t get clarification from his peer about the paper when she gave the example( so that is his fault) however that does not negate that Turnitin can still be used as a tool.
Mothers like the defendants is why alot of people don't take accountability, she makes excuses for his behavior
Also, excuses are not the road to success-- you are responsible for yourself.
I appreciate what he said after the case, I can respect that.

I've grown to like Judge Ross so much more than any other court show. He's a joy to watch/listen.
I also like Judge Kevin Ross. He is a really fair judge who is really intelligent & very well-spoken.
She was going to fail anyway. So then who do we blame then. Maybe she should not have taken A.P US History if she wasn’t good at it at all.

He gets it from his mama 😂😂😂
The defendants mom is enabling him. Plus him copying others work could cause her to have been punished too.
If he kept bailing then why didn’t she look for another partner??? She should be responsible for that!!!!

How he ever got accepted into an AP class is beyond me. If I were the principal, I would've suspended him.

Are we sure this boy is an advanced student?

I thought students have to put their stuff into Turnitin or is that only in college?
