Perfect timing Jenny - exactly what I need for an assignment I’m working on - spent hours yesterday trying to play a drum track live, then re-editing bits etc. all rather amateurish and not really good enough. I was resigned to using the midi editor today and drawing in the drums - this is so SO much easier / quicker and with velocity more expressive - a big thanks !
Kenny you are a life saver. I'm still pretty new to this and discovering features that I need because I suck at drum programming. Do you have a Ko-Fi or similar? You've saved me many hours, not just with this video, but lots of other ones!
Please do a video on horizontal zoom. Left click drag (mouse modifier ruler) *without sws*. The stock reaper zoom is much smoother but will not let me invert. Please 🙏🏾 help
my drum shows the name from the wav file instead of the names i've set (like snare, kick, clap, etc). can you advise how to get the given names to display. it would be so much easier to make the drum track
Your tutorials are excellent, but i cant figure out why Reaper doesn't just make the piano roll and midi editing fearures a little more advanced and user friendly. Its hardly worth using for anything besides adding in some finishing touches.
I'm on board with you on that. I don't even bother with Midi in Reaper knowing how how much easier it is to do things in (any DAW besides Reaper) I think having the whole concept designed with a programmer's state of mind above a musicians preferred UX, it makes the whole experience like living in this huge house with unfinished walls, a flat roof, moldy food in the fridge, unwashed dishes and ugly furniture. But it's got all these weird hand built gadgets with large levers making it some wacko DIY smart home and allows you to do weird things in your home that isn't possible in normal homes
@paavoilves5416 Funny you say that I do the exact same thing lol. Maschine for most of the production heavy lifting, and it's mainly just vocals and guitar In Reaper.
@@EricJohnson-fh8zj Maschine's workflow is amazingly good, basically hassle free! It's just so amazingly bad for recording vocals and mixing though 😂 they're polar opposites with Reaper
cool but do you have a tutorial on regions with different tempos and time signatures? i got mine all set up but anytime i move the region in the timeline the tempos get all messed up
Thank you so much! When using the computer (virtual) keyboard for step recording, is there any way to set the velocity of the note you're going to play? I was wondering if there was an action for "Set note to velocity 100" or "Set note to velocity 30", so you could write in loud and quiet notes. TIA!!!
I'm not able to get this to work using the Virtual Midi Keyboard (VMK). The VMK works if I record as the track plays but won't add the notes in step mode. I got the function keys to work but when I add notes (set to 1/4 notes), the cursor does not move to the next beat automatically with step sequence turned on.
i have same problem with akai mini. my midi controller is armed, with drum vst active, i can hear it. midi editor opened, step recording is active, but it won't record any note or midi input when i hit a key. what do i wrong?
Yes. But the midi editor must be the active or in focus window so you have to turn on "Send all keyboard input to Virtual MIDI keyboard (even when other windows active)" to get it to work.

This is the best Reaper drum tutorial
Kenny it's like your reading my mind. Thank you so much.
You did it again, Kenny. Lovely stuff.
Another brilliantly explained video! Thanks Kenny, you are gold 🪙 🙏🙏🙏
As always, great information! Thanks, Kenny!
This is very cool! Thank you Kenny!!!
Awesome video! I'll be using this for sure!
Thanks Kenny! ✅🎶🥇🎷
Can we have a tutorial on how to sample those epic arrow key sounds and turn them into a drum kit !!!

Hi ! Nice video, is there a way to put the outputs of the different drums into separate tracks to mix them individually? Thank you !
hi! your tutorials are the most helpful. do you know how to stop the open hi hat sample whenever a kick comes in?
Thanks, man this is a godsend for me. But, how can you make kit piece names apear, mine is empty in names tab?
You can double right-click on the left and name each line.
Best musical tutor going round.
Can you please program Neil Peart type drumming with time changes and sweeping drum rolls??? I assume it can be done. Thanks Ken
Got a cold, Kenny? Get well soon! 🙏
A slight one. Getting better. Thanks.
I like the new intro music - much better
Thank you.
Thanks man!

Yep. As a rap producer I use Maschine to make beats and Reaper just to record vocals

100 percent agree on this. The MIDI area in Reaper isn't the best. When I work with midi editing, i tend to use FL Studio more often
oh hell yeah man, thankyou

If you click your mouse on the keys in the VMK towards the top of the key, all input will be softer and vice versa.

Hi Kenny, do you accept any mixing projects?
Sure.
@@REAPERMania How can I reach out/contact?
Can step recording be done with the virtual keyboard?

@@REAPERMania Got it. Thanks for responding.
Can reaper pan midi notes?
In the midi editor bottom left corner, change the CC from Velocity to CC 10 (Pan Position)
If youre clicking in that much anyway, why would you even need to do this?
