    I've been wondering when this year's CTWC would be! I think it's really cool that they've made the Tetris Effect brackets from last year into its own completely different event, it means even more variety of Tetris and it looks like they've really made it unique with the triathlon of Zone Battles, Classic Score Attack, and standard Score Attack, alongside a Connected VS invitational. It makes sense with TE:C still being a sponsor this year, but it's still neat to see it have its own spotlight instead of just being a smaller side event to the actual CTWC. I'm excited for this! I watched as much CTWC as I could last year and it was really enjoyable, even if I can't attend in person, it'll at least be cool to have the in person crowd back to react to everything live.

    • @nicked_fenyx
      @nicked_fenyx Год назад

      I definitely agree. I've been both heartened and a bit disappointed at the reception TE:C has received by the competitive Tetris community. Like, it's been great to see the game featured in any way at all when it comes to competitive events, but on the other hand, it seems like it's only featured because it's a huge sponsor. By far the biggest focus remains on CTWC's NES Tetris - the kind that requires loads of old hardware to run.
      I grew up with NES Tetris and totally get that classic Tetris is its own thing (I mean, it's even in the CTWC name). That said, while I've been amazed at how many people have been willing and able to get their hands on the required hardware to compete in the CTWC event, I feel like at some point the community needs to begin transitioning to something that runs on newer hardware. TE:C has a classic NES Tetris mode that feels like the best/closest option right now, and while it may not be 100% identical, people like GreenTea worked hard to make it as similar as it could be. It even offers separate PAL and NTSC settings. Yet I don't see it getting much attention on its own, nor do I see many top classic players utilizing it very often.
      I guess it just feels to me like, as successful as the CTWC has been in recent years, it could be even bigger and reach a wider audience if it began to migrate toward using newer hardware to play the same (or very, very similar) classic Tetris game. The currently required setup really just isn't an option for a lot of people, and discourages people from even trying to get involved. And while the TE:C triathlon event is cool, why not offer a competitive event alongside CTWC's main event that featues only TE:C's classic score attack mode (eg, the mode that's most like NES Tetris)? I'm sure I'm probably missing something here, but as someone who loves watching and playing Tetris and has felt intimidated by the hardware hurdle myself, I feel like I can't be alone in thinking this way...

    Super informative and concise video, thanks Scout!
    Super cool that they eliminated the line, I'm sure people's experience will be a lot better now that they can enjoy the convention as well as compete. Also glad that they have a no mullen rule. I'm sure that will ease a lot of the time constraint issues, as most of these wild 20-30 minute runs are generally mullens.

    I agree that when you have it live then it is fair to ask players not to "fractal" the game (playing through many lines on killscreen till you top out after it is clear that you won the game). That would be more or less okay if CTWC winner is already known and wants just for funs to mullen out the last game. However, if two players enter killscreen and one is behind lets say by 150K points and during the killscreen the deficit grows to 400K, leading player tops out and the other still lives (therefore has chance to catch up) what will you do? Do you ask him to top out telling him about time considerations while tapping on your watch? Or you will be fair and let the player try to overcome the deficit? I think if these situations happen (and they do happen if you watch CTM) then you should let the catch-up attempt happen and not force the player go yolo to save time

    • @aGameScout
      @aGameScout  Год назад +2

      Fractal is actually one of the people who doesn’t keep playing after he’s won very much, maybe it should be called an “Eric” now haha. But regardless, players should never be discouraged from using the best strategy possible to win the game. They can line out on killscreen as long as they want as long as it’s chasing a deficit. Most of the time that will be far less time consuming than a colors run or something.

    • @kingyodah5415
      @kingyodah5415 Год назад

      Of course i realize not every catch up attempt will be successful. I used Fractal as example how he can line out killscreen for super long time (and not just him), it was more like if player decides to line it out because they feel safe that way. In the game Dog vs Fractal in the CTM live finals, killscreen starts at 21:00 in game 2, Dog tops out at 24:45, Fractal decides to top out after successful catch-up at cca 28:30. That is very long killscreen play (competition-wise). It can also happen you have a game where you see like double level 70, there are rollers who can do that. I also realize not every game will see this. But if organizers do let players catch up using whatever strategy they feel safest at or if they let happen something like that double level 70 because both players are still alive, then my concerns as a fan will disappear because not only the CTWC schedule will not be stretched to breaking point but also i will see exquisite killscreen plays. I will still be kind of divided between live (atmosphere, meet-ups, fun) and online CTWC (more players have chance to participate, also many more top players)

    • @vksasdgaming9472
      @vksasdgaming9472 Год назад +1

      Tetris Effect has interesting mechanic online for those situations: time limit. If you cannot catch up within time limit you lose.

    Can I choose to go to the qualifiers just for fun. Because my pb is only 300k, I've never gotten a maxout, and I know I won't make it in anywhere. I just want to do the qualifiers because I've never done a competition scene before, and I would like to see what it's like. Is that allowed?

    • @aGameScout
      @aGameScout  Год назад

      There’s no rules against anyone signing up, so I’d think it’s allowed, the courtesy would be just to make sure you aren’t taking up a rental station spot from a better player who could make the brackets. That’s kind of the position I’m in - I’ll only attempt to qualify if there’s a lot of open spots still left during sign ups.

      At this point, the vaccine has been out for almost 2 years and anyone who wanted it could’ve easily gotten it. People who don’t have it at this point probably aren’t going to ever get it and are primarily taking on a risk that’ll just affect themselves instead of others who are vaccinated

    • @Kris18
      @Kris18 Год назад

      @@aGameScout It's a common misconception that being vaccinated means you cannot get COVID. Reading your message, I'm not sure if you're trying to downplay the possibility, or imply it does not exist at all.
      The vaccination tends to make it less likely and less intense but does not guarantee you will not get it. For this reason, your own personal decision to get vaccinated or not does indeed affect others, even those who have been vaccinated.

    • @aGameScout
      @aGameScout  Год назад

      @@Kris18 yeah, unfortunately I know all too well you can still get it. I was vaccinated+boosted and still got Covid twice. At a certain point everyone has to assess their own risk. For people really concerned about the possibility of getting it or are immunocomprimised, it’s probably best to not go to a convention at all. If you’re healthy and vaccinated, chances are high that even if you get it, it will be relatively mild. I think the most important thing would be not allowing people to show up or participate who have active symptoms of being sick on the day of the event.
