- The classic Turkish novel Çalıkuşu, written by Reşat Nuri Güntekin in 1922, has gone through a number of adaptations, for both the big and small screens. The latest is Lovebird (Çalıkuşu), a drama series produced by TIMS Productions and sold internationally by Global Agency. It stars Fahriye Evcen and Burak Özçivit.
Evcen and Özçivit met with World Screen to discuss the series and what it was like to work on a period drama. The interview was filmed in Turkish.

Discovered this series on Netflix Australia a couple of weeks ago. Totally hooked & binge watched! Loved it. But like most... devastated it ended too soon. My consolation has been discovering these two actors actually married in real life in 2017 and expecting a child... that is my happy ending!!

Yeah Ferida showed up @ about 12:30 after Kamran waited for hours for her.. Feride is so stubborn that only a patient guy like Kamran can withstand her
go back to episode one and you will know what happened. There’s the little girl when her mother dies. Credits then Feride is writing her diary. She tells you why she’s writing it and it’s the end at the beginning. I had to go back as well .

I agree with the previous comment. After all they went through they deserved to be seen together in the end. There were loose ends. I really expected a better ending. When you watch non stop every episode you deserve a better ending. I was looking to see if there was a season 2 but it looks like there isn't one. That's so sad. It left me wanting to see more. Besides that the series was really romantic.

This incredible story was why I fell in love with Turkish Dramas. It was superbly written, and they were consummate performers. I loved the music score, the poetry, and everything about it. Bravo 👌🏾

Besides, I love the house and stuff that they used (clothes, pillows, bed stuff, painting of the walls with flowers, curtains). All hand made. Beautiful.

There was an english subtitles, the one that I watched episode 1 up to 30 it has an englished subtitles, that's what want to have second season, because the end was fedire late in the train station they didn't show it, you can tell on to the face kamran was smiling, it means feride comes, that why I'm requesting episode 31, thanks to who the ever wrote the story

I’m a episode 50. This is sad to know that it ended abruptly at 72nd episode. This is a beautiful story, great poetic words, thoughts and acting. Lovebirds, they both are.

I am anxiously waiting for Season 2 this coming February.....the two main characters Cameron and Lovebird are fascinating people to watch. Not to mention how beautifully they compliment each other on the set and off.

A very beautiful, Serie I can not accept the end, for his face at the train Station she showed up, but all the followers of this Serie we deserve to see them toguether like real story, if not this is cruel ,some times the writer and the producer want to be original, in this case specific in this story full of everything , with hundred of obstaculus they survive , we or me feeel very sad , give os what we deserve please.

It was a lame ending! loyal viewers deserved better, but tricky endings are what Turkish industry likes to drop onto the loyal viewers. Who knows why?!

I absolutely loved this series. I watched 72 episodes over 4 days. You are both such beautiful looking people and I am so happy you are husband and wife in real life. The series carried a very strong feminist message. I am from Scotland UK and wish you both every happiness. Merhaba xx I’m adding to this because I think most of the comments have missed the point of this. Feride lost her inheritance to save him and his sister, it left her with nothing. She gave everything for him and when she left the school she had no where but the family. He constantly lied to her no matter what the fault was. He even seen his parents and sister destroyed to save himself by not telling Feride the truth? It was the only thing she demanded from him and he couldn’t give it . Many women live like Feride and Necmiye. Abused, ignored and beaten. She choose a simple life because his family were the first to turn against her during troubles. Her opinion wasn’t valued. The man who wrote the book is a 20 th c writer and he choose by writing the book to speak out about the conditions women live in by using a romance. It was a one sided romance where Feride gave everything for him. I like to think she prospered without him and made changes to the society she lived in and was an example to others living under the same conditions all over the world! Kamran had a horrible side to him and was no less obsessed by her than Selim was. Women Open Your Eyes! You’ve missed the point!
As far as i know, the series is based on a novel written in 1922. The lives of women portrayed here is exactly the same. This was what they were going through before all these years.
I really enjoyed your series “Lovebirds.” I hope the writers, producers and the original cast can get together and do a second series.
I'm hoping they would continue the series too. 🙏❤️

The english dubbing is up to the americans. The desicion is to be made by american TV broadcasters... they first have to buy the rights to broadcast it and then they can decide to dub it or use subtitles. I mean why would the turkish producers make all the effort and pay for english dubbing when it is not going to be broadcasted in english speaking countries.

Somebody knows that there is а Turkish film ÇALIKUŞU (7 episodes) which was filmed in 1986? It is based on the novel of Rishard Noory Guntekin, the Turkish writer.
So, all these versions are different but all are interesting!!! Start with the book and you have any questions in the films!!!🙋🤗

I love to watch Korean drama but never tried Turkey ‘s drama. This actor, who played the role of Kamran has caught my sights for his features like Brad Pit even though this actor has more better looks than Brad Pit. This actor has done a excellent job in this drama! Faride ‘s role was easy and that actress has done an excellent job in her part with her acting skills but watching that many twists and suspenses, the producer of this Lovebird’s serial has made my brain tangled up so badly that it will take up about the same amount of hrs. that I have spent to watch this drama! One more thing that surprised me most about these Arab Muslim’s is that it seems like drinking beer is allowed in Quran! I am a Muslim but I don’t drink beer. I wonder if drinking beer is not prohibited in Quran just for the Turkish Muslims, and the entire Arab people! Ha ha ha- just Kidding. Erdogan, the president of Turkey, can recite a whole Quran, does he drink beer too. Just curious - that’s all.

I agree. I wish this has played out like the book, where they did actually end of married. But Turkish Drama Writers like to go for the gut wrenching endings. They are masters at that game!
