Knowledge is POWER. Started photography about a couple of years ago and didn't even know that my 580EXII could do such a thing. I've always used it on manual mode only, and now I'll be trying this method. Thanks a million Mark!
That was very helpful. I didn't realize my SB-800 would do that. This will make the switch from the CLS system to radio transmitters much easier. Thanks for sharing. Brian
I literally just finished watching this episode on Adorama's channel, but this episode was so helpful I had to make sure to add a view count and Like here too! Thanks so much to Adorama and SnapFactory for these great videos!
@trip3980 perhaps by using the modelling flash feature on your flash head or camera body? it sends out a quick strobing flash so u can 'Model' how the light will fall on the subject. ?? just a thought
Ok, What about mixing brands and using the speedlights on the hotshoot, is this possible or would it cause damage. I hear it has something to do with the voltage...has to be near the same value. Could you explain this?
Hi Mark, Can I use this setup while My SB-910 switch is at Master, On, Or Remote? Also, Can this be triggered by my Nikon Built in Commander instead of a pocket radio? Thanks.
1. Push and hold C.Fn for 2 seconds 2. Rotate the dial to Fn 05 3. Hit set button and rotate dial until it says 3. 4. Press OK. The usability gods must be crying.
@CThienV quite possibly. To me the flash is too quick and jaring for me to get a good idea. I could guess but its not going to be perfect. only tip I have come across was using a flash light but most my flashlights can't seem to cut the sunlight.
Mark, hey Mark, thanks a million man you dont know how much this means to me, i was about to sell all my gear to go to nikon casue of the sb900 chip flash but even thou canon 600 now supports chips thats ok. i see now its all about how you setup your lighting. thanks.
Even the SB700 doesn't have this feature. It would be good to mention that in the beginning. Apparently only the 900 and 910 feature this. Perhaps the 800 as well. Geez.
So the only advantage of this in not having to use an external light meter? I thought flash could figure out their output anyway based on the camera's settings, whether they have a built-in meter or not?

this was a really good two part series. it actually made me realize that I need to go back and read my flash manual.

This video and Part 1 beat all of the others
this is really cool! question is, will it work even if you're using a cactus v5?
Nice video!!!
If you can do a demo on setting up 580ex ii wireless function btw camera and strobe without trigger. Thanks heaps!!!

Mark, can you use this technique with the TT1 and Flex and if so, how?
Can this technique be used with multiple off-camera flash units?

any tips on how to predict where the shadows are going to land shooting outdoors with no continus light to guide you?
@onioncube Any trigger should work with this set up. Just make sure if your trigger has the same connection type as your camera and Flash.
Hi Mark, Can you trigger canon 580 EX II in fully manual mode mode using ST-E2 ?
Thanks,
Krish
Hi Mark can I do the same with my canon 430EX II? and in what mode you are shooting M Av or Tv? thanks!!!
Can this work with more then one speed light at a time?
does anyone know if these setting are good to leave on at all times?
1. Push and hold C.Fn for 2 seconds
2. Rotate the dial to Fn 05
3. Hit set button and rotate dial until it says 3.

430EX II does not have the fnc 5, i looked for it and didnt find so i guess it has no meter, but on my 600 it really rocks
It seems this works only with the top-of-the-line models from Nikon and Canon
aside from pocketwizard, are there any other triggers that works with this setup ?
@CThienV

does the 430 exII have this?
Can I do this with a Canon Speedlite 300EZ ?

This was already uploaded. Why is is back, uploaded 3 hours ago?
@weaam4ever f/6.3 @ISO200 triggering the flash with Pocket wizard. Given those settings the flash decides what power to use.
Really a Minolta Auto25? I will have to try that
I am holding my 430EX and I don't see the light meter on it. IDK about the 430EX II.
Hi Mark,
Does this technique work with the TT1 and Flex and how?
Thanks very much.
did mark mention what speed the camera was on with these shots
@WiseGuy02 Different RUclips channel.... the previous upload was AdoramaTV.
Does she have pink eye?
So the only advantage of this in not having to use an external light meter? I thought flash could figure out their output anyway based on the camera's settings, whether they have a built-in meter or not?
mark your videos so usefull
@tutoriales3minutos its probably allergies.
@tutoriales3minutos If she was "On weed" both her eyes would be blood shot, not just one. Its probably allergies or a birth mark type thing.
no only 580ex
Is she on weed ?? I mean her eyes =D
