Hello, So my therapist ( I suffer with anxiety) she suggested I find something for myself, a hobby just something for me, and this is totally my kind of thing! Thank you for being so informative they are beautiful xx
So fun! You were the first video that popped up for this technique and you are a good teacher! I look forward to giving this a go. This is a perfect project to upcycle ugly cups!
Just found your channel and watching this in 2024. Absolutely Love your Toppers ❤ Your tutorial is so informative, you have inspired me to give this a try. I have subscribed to your channel. Looking forward to seeing more of your creations 😊
Wonderful and inspiring tutorial! Your toppers are gorgeous! I will be making Valentine’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day mug toppers this weekend. Thank you so much for the great tip about food coloring instead of acrylic paint!
Love this idea. At first I thought the star method wasn’t right. But no it is perfect. I love that you found a way to make a true red without it getting too thin. As a former cake decorator, Bravo. I bought one and wanted another one but didn’t want to spend that kind of money again. I love the gingerbread one. I think I will look at tiny decorations a little different now. I want to make a gum drop one. My craft buddy and I will have to make some.
Thank you so much 😊 The gumdrop idea sounds so cute! I should try using different tips and see how they come out. Being a former cake decorator yours would come out so adorable. Have fun making one.
Thank you soooooo much! I’ve always wondered how to make those. You are very organized and informative. You presented it very well and I think I can do it!! 🎄🎄🎄❤️❤️❤️
Love these! I had been wanting to make them, but I only know how to make fake frosting for cupcakes and muffins, lol, so I kept putting off looking for a tutorial... Not sure why I didn't think of doing the frosting I make for the cupcakes....with just white paint and do whip cream, lol! It's literally the same thing, except you put the "topping" on the fake cupcakes instead of on cardboard lol! The only thing for me though, is I had a problem with the Dollar Tree spackle. The tutorials I followed both are long time "experts" on making faux food and they both said Don't Use DT spackle... It was all I had on hand, so I gave it a try and yep... When it dried, I got cracks. Lots of them on some. I tried adding a bit of water and that made it worse lol! Then I used silicone, but that was a little too heavy and expensive for what I was using it for. I ended up just going to Home Depot and getting a bucket of spackle for pretty cheap, esp considering I had to toss the ones I made out and I had even made my own clay toppings like sprinkles, mini lemons and leaves, lol, straws etc.. I was surprised to see you used DT spackle and had no issues when it dried...?! I don't know what I did wrong to get so many cracks. Grrrr!
Thank you 😊 so far I haven’t had any problems with the dollar tree spackle. Your an expect at this. I used plaster of paris once because my husband was like it will work and that’s what we had in the garage. It dries rock hard, but I like using spackle.
So cute!! I made some valentine day ones and loved how fun it was to make and cute it came out !! I’m not making st Patrick’s day ones and let me tell you!! I am STRUGGLING!! I can not get the spackle out the piping tip!!!!! I have added more paint, mixed a lot to get it softer and I just can’t do it!! Last time I made it I had to use a plastic tip and not my metal but of course I missed placed it 🤦🏻♀️
Thanks, you can try adding some water. This has happened to me just take out what’s in the bag. Rinse the bag and tip then add some water to the spackle. This has worked for me. Don’t give up! I made some last year and they were not looking good.
These are Great! Thanks! - I'd like to see red & white peppermint stripes. Also, what do you think about hot-gluing the spackle jar top to the bottom after everything is dried? I'm thinking it may keep the topper from sliding off the mug. 🤔
You did a great job on your toppers. I attended a Rae Dunn Christmas party last year and we made toppers it was so much fun. Have a great Thanksgiving and Christmas. TFS Cheryl
New Subscriber, from Southern Tennessee💕I just can't Thank You enough for this video!I'm a "novice"crafter myself and I've been wanting to do the "toppers" for MONTHS so Thanks again💕now I'll have 10+ months to make up several, for my 2021 Christmas gifts😉😊
Very pretty. I usually wait until it dry the paint it the color I want. I store mine in my garage after using the and don’t want bug since I live in Florida. Lol. Just afraid to use the food coloring and any type of food. Palmetto bugs aka big flying roaches love foam and glue.
Love these ideas! Can you tell me ~ do you attach the toppers to the mugs somehow ~ or they just sit on top? Could you by chance hot glue them to the mug?
love your toppers! I'm sure this question has been asked but I haven't read through all the comments about how much white paint is needed for the white toppers? TIA.
Thank you so much 😊 The spackle looks a little grey so I just squeeze a little bit and stir it. It’s hard to say the exact amount. Add a little and if you like the color then you’re good to go. I remember when I was making a red topper and of course with the white spackle it made pink so I kept adding in red paint and that’s when things went wrong. I recommend using food coloring when you want to change the color. Good luck and have fun making them.
@@cindygallagher9547 I read your comment wrong I thought you said you could use chaulk. I’ve never seen anyone use chaulk before. I would stick with spackle.
The tip I used was a Wilton 2D from Walmart.
My spackle ribbons when using a 2D tip, do you know where I’m going wrong ?

Welcome Kimberly, Tennessee is beautiful! I’ve been making some for Valentine’s Day. So much fun to make. Happy crafting 😊
Your toppers look beautiful!! How do you connect them to the mug?
Thank you so much 😊 I just have it resting on top to use in a display.

Thank you so much 😊 great idea! I hate those palmetto bugs.
What if anything do you seal the toppers with, especially those that you sprinkled cinnamon on. Love them
I don’t seal them at all. Toppers when dry are hard. I pulled my out from last year and look like I just made them.
I loved this tutorial! Can you tell me if you use the paper plate base for the mug topper if someone asks to purchase these?
Thank you so much! I flip the mug upside down on the paper plate and trace around the mug. I then add my spackle to the cutout and let dry.
Acrylic paint does work well in place of the food coloring.
Awesome thank you 🙏🏽
Thank you so much 😊
Absolutely adorable !! where did you find your gingerbread men?? Tia.
Thank you so much! I think Joann fabrics or hobby lobby.
Love this! Great instructions! Could they be dried in a low-temp oven?
Thank you so much! I haven’t seen it done like that before but I’m curious now. I’ll do some research.
Love these ideas! Can you tell me ~ do you attach the toppers to the mugs somehow ~ or they just sit on top? Could you by chance hot glue them to the mug?
I was thinking of getting wood rounds to glue to the bottom at the end that fit nicely in the mug. 🙂
love your toppers!
Where did you find the small trees and gingerbread men?
Hobby lobby
They are so cute! I am looking for a way to ship some toppers. any ideas? Thank you.
Thank you 😊 Maybe a square box like one a mug would come in. Good luck.
Thank you so much! Now my sweet little marshmallow cups won’t be naked 😊
You’re welcome 😊 they will be adorable on them!
My marshmallow cups are naked right now. I will be making some this week. I have all the stuff for it.
Thank you for the tutorial. I love your toppers. Will the Spackle get soft when used to cover a hot cup of joe or tea?
You’re welcome 😊 I’ve never tried it. I use mine for decor so my cup is empty.
Lol ok thx for the response
How do you clean the spackle from the pastry container
With warm water.
how do you clean out the bag and tip when finished so that it can be reused?
Hot water.
My spackle g settled as it drys and doesn't look like whip cream. Any thoughts?
If you added too much water to the spackle or too much paint to change the color that would make it settle.
How do you clean out the bag when finished?
Clean out the bag with warm water.
Think ill paint afterwards so won't be to thin
how can you store these? Or are they supposed to be used just for that season and thrown away?
The mug toppers are hard after they dry so you can definitely put them in storage.
@@decoratingfanatic thank you!
Where did you purchase the embellishments?
Gingerbread men and snowflakes hobby lobby. Peppermints and Christmas tree Joann fabrics.
How do u seal them?
@@debrasprouse9154 I don’t seal mine because they get hard but you could certainly spray them with a clear polyurethane. Thanks for watching 😊
Colleen don't know if you'll see this comment. But can you use caulk instead of spackle. I'm finally gonna make one ❤️❤️❤️
Hi Cindy, I never tried it or ever thought of using it. I’ll have to try it. Have fun making your mug topper.
Thank you so much for answering Colleen. I'll let ya know how the caulk works. Have a great weekend ♥️🎃♥️

Thank you Colleen. I will do that ❤️
Sorry could u tell me what the of the material that u put food color inside it
It’s light weight spackle from dollar tree.
Did the spackle come from the Dollar Tree?
Yes
How long does it take to dry?
24 hours
Where can I buy the items to make this
Dollar tree for the light weight spackle. Piping bag and icing tip Walmart. Hobby lobby, dollar store or Joann for embellishments.
Thank you so much
I tried the lightweight spackling from the dollar tree and I couldn’t get it to go through the piping bag. Any tips?
Add water. This will definitely thin out the spackle and go through the bag much easier.
Bu sahte kremşanti nasıl yapıyorsunuz
I feel like a few of mine collapsed a bit.
I’m thinking may be the consistency of the spakle was too thin. Did you add anything to it?
Eally
You forgot to share how to place the mug toppers on the mug.
The toppers just sit on top. I don’t glue them down. I use mine in my displays. You could always use double sided tape on the edges to hold it down.
@@decoratingfanatic, Okay. I have seen alot of them glued down, I didn't want my grandbabies to knock them over
Gel food coloring would work better using less!
For sure! Happy Valentine’s Day ❤️
