I'll always remember seeing Polyphia with my best friend at a show in Austin where they played with Dance Gavin Dance and Hail The Sun. I had no idea who they were, and it blew my mind when the guy who was standing next to us went up on stage and started doing this to a guitar. I had been standing next to Tim the first part of the show. It was an outdoor show with a stage and a big awning, and halfway through their set it was raining and there was thunder and lightning, so everyone was huddled under this awning. I can vividly remember this song, huddled with people mesmerized my this song while a thunder storm is going on around us. My best friend is gone now, and that show was my favorite we ever went to. I'll always remember this song, and I love to see where you guys have gotten to now.
I appreciate this comment. I've only found Polyphia 1 week a go and I'm mesmerised completely. Here I am digging into some older tracks.... the journey this band has taken!?!! O_o So amazed!
It is metal, but I'm not seeing or hearing a lot of palm-muting on the heavy parts so it probably isn't djent and djent is a kind of metal that has a certain sound, but these guys are the boy band of metal

I'm a late comer to the Polyphia scene, I had no idea you guys existed back in 2015. How the heck did I miss you guys? Better late than never, thank you for your beautiful music guys.
Same here. The thing is the more I dig old songs, its getting better too. Aviator n Finale are my kind of song, I wonder y youtube didnt put this in their algorithm to me back then.
I've been a musician for years and I have to say. You guys have a sound that is unique. I really like the lack of a singer. Leaves the audience to connect to the music in a more profound manner.
Saw this band last night when they opened for august burns red. Very cool band to watch, the bass player had like 10x the energy live. Would definitely recommend.
You've gotta appreciate just how pretty this song is. Polyphia hasn't made a single album that wasn't awesome and unique. They're not afraid to reinvent themselves, and that's something that really makes them stand out.
depwater12 finger style only fits where it needs to and a plectrum adds different depth and tone to the bass. His picking skills are mad crazy watch him play eighty seven and you'll see
rmbloungeact I get you. I couldn't even tell he was using a pick until i seen the vid. He is damn good. I also like the flanger effect he add's to the bass in the other songs. It reminds me of Justin Chancellor from Tool.
Every once a while I just keep coming back to this masterpiece. Their new stuff is great but for me this song has a special place in my heart because in my 7 years of severe depression (I'm better now) this song managed to make me feel a little excitement, joy and sometimes even get my ass up to the gym
This is probably my favorite song at this moment. I fucking LOVE how you can actually feel how much emotion they put into this song. It may sound weird but I swear I can actually feel there soul in it. Music really is universal and this song is amazing!
Take it from a 55 year old from a family of musicians, most of my friends musicians, performed on stage, wrote music, know some of the best musicians, met many greats, roadied for and so on, these kids are awesome. Excellent work!
I'm 66 from just outside Woodstock NY, the town not concert site. I'm a musician artist as well, (suffered from stage fright, probably saved my life) These kids are excellent but each track sounds the same to me. I prefer Guthrie Govan, and a host of others too long to name. But, here I am listening...
I bet brandon regrets his decision right now, leaving Polyphia a year before the band shocks the internet. Polyphia is the biggest instrumental band right now.
It’s so awesome to come back and see how the band has changed and improved in so many ways. So much more technical and stylish now, but I miss this feel of them being a somewhat still smaller band.
I love the move Tim busts out every so often where he throws a held note out of phase with the whammy bar, making that note change from a clean ring to a rough sound. Very cool.
I always liked Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, John Petrucci. Listened to their music a lot. Came across a short 'Ego Death' clip with Ste Vai's solo on YT a couple months ago. And so it started with Polyphia and it doesn't stop :D Amazing stuff that you compose and play!
I'm actually the same way. I always thought that I'd be one of the more reserved bassists, but the first time I preformed with a band, all of a sudden, the head began to bang. It was so fun.
I love this, I love this so much. I'm gonna tell you why, because you sound like a band as a whole now. Bass cuts through much better so Clay has his presence. Drums have their "solo" part so we can hear Brandon's awesome grooves. Scott brings the heavy side of the song doing chords not as previously when you both played melodies, this sounds way fuller and more natural. And Tim's playing isn't "look what I can do" as previously (it was nice, but this sounds better imo), it's more melodic. I think you are improving a lot and I'm really glad, because you clearly have the skills, you needed a bit more mature approach to your songwriting, and I think you got it right this time :) Polyphia is back!
New Muse generally, I feel the mix is just better and we can hear Clay more, we can also hear drums more. I don't know if they are retracking muse or just remastering it, but it would make sense to retrack it imo haha I hope next release sounds more like this song and not like some songs in Muse which are basically more shred oriented. Don't get me wrong, shred is cool, but I like songs like Finale more.
@@SSJ2AlexiLaiho I'm with you guys. And I LOVE their new stuff. That fucking harmonized part is one of those parts that I feel all of us wish we wrote. I only discovered this song today after having my heartbroken and it's the best thing that could have happened.
I was in a Uber this morning and heard this track for the first time. This isn't my genre, but this is spectacular and gorgeous, no matter what your definition of music is!
this music will always have a place in my heart, but its truly insane the leaps and bounds they have made since this era. they went from doing what others were doing, to making a path all their own
I can't even count how many times I've watched this by now. Seriously one of the best songs to ever grace my ears. I almost invariably get chills at 4:02 when it all comes crashing down. Thank you so much for creating this masterpiece, Polyphia. So much respect and admiration for you guys.
as much as i love this band and love their evolution and current fame, i kinda miss these days, this polyphia vibe hyped as fuck for the new album, love them to death, yet i cant help but miss the old polyphia a lot
This is so much better than the Billboard rock garbage these days! It's nice to see guys with real instrumental skills that actually know how to play instead of "strumming" the guitar like most of the stuff that passes for rock music today!
I think it says something that their most popular video is them just playing their music with a white background to accompany them. No bells and whistles, no hot girls, just a bunch of guys playing their hearts out. I like it.
Been a fan of these boys for a couple of years and love their new stuff but I only discovered this song today after having my heartbroken and it's the best thing that could have ever happened. That harmonized section at 1:39 is something we all wish we wrote

I'm livin' life, do or die, what can I say
I'm twenty-three now, but will I live to see twenty-four
The way things are going I don't know

Keep spendin' most our lives,

Keep spendin' most our lives,

Minute after minute, hour after hour

If they can't understand it, how can they reach me

I know Tim's sometimes just the star of the show, but an appreciation post for Scott's amazing rhythms, fills and his solo parts.
Absolutely. Im 51 yrs old. Im a music enthusiast. Love your music guys!
Man, Scott looks really different here. At first I thought it was a different guy.
Few people seem to appreciate drums... I found these guys while looking for an instrumental band with good drumming.
That’s one of the coolest looking basses ever 🔥
I feel like so many people are picking on the bassist for his head banging but hey he's just getting into the music who gives a shit
One of the reasons i watch Polyphia MV is because of that Headbang
I'm not kidding
I'm actually the same way. I always thought that I'd be one of the more reserved bassists, but the first time I preformed with a band, all of a sudden, the head began to bang. It was so fun.
Yeah for real them haters dont even play an instrument lmao
I love it. I kinda like the odd contrast of everyone else being super stagnant and the bassist going ape in between them
I feel like I see no comments complaining of his head.
Still sounds good to me. . I like the drummer where is he now? His grooves and rudiments are so smooth
He quit the band a few years ago. Polyphia wanted to move in a different direction and he didn't like it so he left the band.
@@andrewpurdy4296 I bet he regrets that right about now....
I`ve played guitar for over 30 yrs., these guys blow my mind. I might be able to do it if I even knew what they were doing.
Beauty in music lives not in the notes, but in those quiet spaces between the notes.
the bass tone is extreme; drummer is awesome; composition perfect; guitars on it; what is not to like?
The guitarists are awesome and the drummer too and all along it's just enthusiastic
I think you are improving a lot and I'm really glad, because you clearly have the skills, you needed a bit more mature approach to your songwriting, and I think you got it right this time :)
Polyphia is back!
Only question I have is, why EMGs? Haha
***** They didn't record with those EMG's. They had DiMarzio CL/LF set. They will change those out, hahaha.
***** The real question is, why not EMGs, though?
James Hewitt Too compressed for my taste haha
The way the halftime hits at the end of this song is just orgasmic. Still one of my favorite songs they've ever made.
They went through so many different styles i love it
lol never noticed this before but at 4:23 looks like Brandon knocks something off his cymbal and into his lap
+kalloused haha nice catch
***** and the padding
+kalloused I do that to, his hands go further down the normal
It was a cymbal felt.
its funny because a few seconds after that u can notice that is gone, but by the end of the song its back on.
this song was the one that introduced me to the band, dam... they've been evolving and i have no regrets following along for the ride
Here I am back again. This is probably the best thing they have EVER composed.
You're not alone.
@@SSJ2AlexiLaiho I'm with you guys. And I LOVE their new stuff. That fucking harmonized part is one of those parts that I feel all of us wish we wrote. I only discovered this song today after having my heartbroken and it's the best thing that could have happened.
Very impressive, yes.
@@charliesmith3476 I honestly don't enjoy the new stuff. Too many notes and less memorable melodies. They are playing better than never, undoubtedly.
Totally agreed
the sound is so motherfucking ibanez
This is the sound inside of Steve Vai's balls...
Toneless POS's
+Goddingdc08 lmfaao!
must be why i like these guys so much, i play ibanez
I got a feva and the only prescription is ibanez! lol
Damn the vocalist killed it!!!!!!! Very talented!
This is such a beautiful track.
Classic Polyphia. Ohh god i'm still in love with this.
How dare these punk Millennials make great sounding adult music!!! This is an outage!!!
I don’t know why but 3:05 is my favorite part of the song.. just the way everything hits and the guitar just rings out.
I was in a Uber this morning and heard this track for the first time. This isn't my genre, but this is spectacular and gorgeous, no matter what your definition of music is!
言葉が無くとも音楽は響くな
My favorite Polyphia song
this music will always have a place in my heart, but its truly insane the leaps and bounds they have made since this era. they went from doing what others were doing, to making a path all their own
I can't even count how many times I've watched this by now. Seriously one of the best songs to ever grace my ears. I almost invariably get chills at 4:02 when it all comes crashing down. Thank you so much for creating this masterpiece, Polyphia. So much respect and admiration for you guys.
....es macht mir einfach Freude...euch bei der Arbeit zuzuschauen!...und !...die ihren werden....noch dazu...verwöhnt....
There's something about that first lead melody, I don't know what it is about it but it just gives me so much nostalgia...
Matt G P.S. Tim is cute as fuck
Matt G I agree with you completely on both comments. xD
Melodic, very nice
one of the most virtuoso metal group in the world. it is strange youtube channel hasn't yet accelerated to millions of subs.
Met these guys the other night! They're so chill and friendly!
This is insane talent. like holy shit. I genuinely freaking loved this. sounds amazing. Thanks for sending me the link x
+Vanya Pillay
+Vanya Pillay Or youre here for their faces
Lalawmpuia Pachuau so because you see I'm a girl, I apparently cannot appreciate the music? please take your sexism somewhere else.
+Vanya Pillay haters gon hate
+Vanya Pillay get 'em.
Where has this band been my whole life?
I was focusing on Brandon but damn I cant ignore that bass. Dude was shredding.
as much as i love this band and love their evolution and current fame, i kinda miss these days, this polyphia vibe
hyped as fuck for the new album, love them to death, yet i cant help but miss the old polyphia a lot
The same can be said for almost all bands you love after the years pass.
Yeah I’m not a fan of new polyphia. The drums don’t even sound real in their new stuff. Completely different genre. What a shame

One of the most FAVORITE SONG VIDEO from my FAVORITE BAND POLYPHIA🔥🔥
I'm loving the minimalist feeling of this video. It's a good change from things.
Grant Abbondanza Thanks! That's what we were going for :)
Hello new favorite song. I’ve been looking for you.
G.O.A.T is good but this one is the root . its youth . thanks for a magical music journey of yours . its amazing
saw them open for dgd and my face melted
ItsSuchaShane Thanks for the support! Hope to run into you again soon :-)
before I watch this video, I thought it will be shitty,
well, after watching the whole video, I kinda enjoy the music a lot ~ nice work
I love clay still doing the same head bangs all these years later in playing god. Different haircuts, same jam moves.
Those tones just make me love this even more. Just how do they get these awesome guitar and bass tones, not to mention the drums?
This is so much better than the Billboard rock garbage these days! It's nice to see guys with real instrumental skills that actually know how to play instead of "strumming" the guitar like most of the stuff that passes for rock music today!
Still enjoying this version of this band…Great drummer.
You guys are the one that help me get out of my comfort zone and inspired to push boundries and go beyond my ability💗
I'm in love with the lyrics.
The ending with the main riff playing over and over again in slow mo is so sick.
Man. I've fallen in love with this sound.
2:55 headbanging during a soft melody with no intensity XD
Yea that bassist looks a little slow.
And the rhythm guitarist looking like a turtle all slouched over
@@Shjandy rythm guitarist? Where?
@@Shjandy i thought both of them are lead guitarist HA HA
He was keeping time with the cymbal.
I love how into it clay gets in these music videos
Still my Polyphia favourite. Nice n catchy melancholy melody
Do you guys know how to make bad songs ? clearly you don't...this is legendary
Charlie , iv got some pollfilla to mend your broken heart, more fish in the pond your bouce back eady come easy go rock on
4:33 is the drummer fighting darth vader?
a full 3 woodstick lightsaber smaaash!
His Jedi training is now complete.
that my friend is what you would call breakdown drumming even though its not being used in a breakdown
Haha
Best song by Polyphia hands down! The break down hits right in the feels every time!
My favorite Polyphia song by far :)
Still my favorite Polyphia song 3 years later :)
Edit in 2022: Still my favorite, even after hearing the new album. I am so grateful I waited patiently for these guys to blow up!
