I've also heard the story that bonehead spent 4-months in a hyperbaric chamber before the recording sessions, to expand his lung capacity for the melodica part in Champagne Supernova. This was first reported in mojo magazine.
There are definitely e-bows on it, coz they're exposed at the end and you can hear Noel sliding down the frets as he stops using one...but if you listen carefully, you can hear the tone is thinner than what i think is a melodica or harmonium playing the lines in the rest of the song. So it's both.
I've heard before that it was a ebow. However, I often wondered if they supplemented/layered it with a sample using a mellotron, which has a melodica patch on it (as well as using the Mellotron for the string patches on Wonderwall etc.).
I’ve wondered for years if it was a melodica! There’s no way bonehead could play it for 7 mins straight but it sounds uncanny to a melodica? It’s a great sound either way

It's definitely a harmonium.
Melodica looped or mellotron with melodica tape. Could even be a harmonium looped too
Melodica looped ?

Maybe but the Mellotron runs out of tape after 8 seconds.
Oh for fuck’s sake, its a harmonium….

Think bonehead is a melodica master
jesus christ the melodica was OBVIOUSLY looped after 1 or 2 cycles.. you can also hear it in don't look back in anger, and a few other WTSMG songs
Good video.
Copy and paste. Also there's various melodica type instruments such as the big piano type one that creates air via foot pedals
Defo an ebow
