  • Music by Dirk Haubrich based on Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Adagio in C Minor KV 617.
World Premiere: 11 November 2004, Lucent Danstheater, Den Haag
In his creation for six dancers, choreographer Jiri Kylián gives the décor an important place.
A synthetic back wall creates illusions and fantasy. Kylián’s composer Dirk Haubrich adapted the slow parts in Mozart’s Adagio and rondo KV 617 in C-major. This composition for glass harmonica and other instruments is one of the later works of Mozart.
He composed it for a blind girl that he met and by whom he was very impressed because of her virtuoso performance on this extraordinary music instrument.
As a six-year-old boy Kylián got in touch with the glass harmonica in a small museum for music instruments in Prague. The square in which this museum is situated has undoubtedly been visited by
Mozart. In this same square, there was an institute for the blind, where Kylián once had his first piano lessons.

    Jiri Kylián about his creation:
“Moving - and being moved. Motion - and emotion. I have a fundamental interest in movement in space, between objects, and movement of the soul. The nature of moving is such, that if you move towards something, you automatically move away from something else. Are we really clear in our intentions? Are we really sure, that we want to move towards, or away from…? I find this an interesting question, which, inevitably, has a great influence on our existence, our intentions and our passing through life. This rather simple, yet very complex philosophy has been, is and will always be my closest companion.”
