  • A new hot meal… pasta!!!
I’ve had a few messages about it so wanted to stress (and I’ll talk about it more in an upcoming video!) that yes, my dinner portions are smaller because I’m still on half portions right now whilst I expose myself to the hot meals. I have other nutritional items to make up for this difference that I don’t post about, whilst I keep on practising getting used to having hot meals again.
In a few weeks and after I’ve become more used to hot meals, this will switch to full portions and the extra bits will be taken off.
This is the way recovery is working for me at the moment and where the priorities lie, and where we are looking at making progress.
One day at a time, and we will get there. Also… I HAD PASTA!!!!!!!

Fi, you do a great job explaining how an eating disorder works, I have learned so much from you.I don't think people realize it's a mental illness. Great job today with the meal increase , I know how hard that had to be for you ! Well done !

It’s hard. Mental illness and addiction are often both treated as a choice or power or will. It is seen as just don’t drink, just don’t do drugs, just go exercise and be happy, just don’t be paranoid, just stop worrying or just eat or just stop eating. Until the public understands the the issues are far more complex it remains a battle. Thank you for adding your voice to those sharing their stories. It helps.

I have an adult son with mental illness. I think people struggle with understanding because they can't see it, like you would a broken leg. "If everything 'looks' normal it must 'be' normal". We take in so much with just a glance, age, gender, facial expression, posture, but we can't see a person's thoughts. My son looks like a "normal" happy guy but you can't hear what thoughts are going through his mind. If his leg was in a cast you would know what was wrong. If I say something the wrong way it could set him back, probably much like when someone tells you you're "looking healthy". But usually saying "how's the leg healing?" Would be perfectly acceptable.

The stigmatization of mental illness is just awful! Among other things, I've been battling EDs on and off for 28 years. I literally just got out of PHP for the other things. It seems that it was OK to speak to the group and process but such a taboo to say one word about it in "public". I will never understand why mental illnesses have to be suffered through in the dark. Thank you for creating such a strong platform to process through your journey - it's inspiring. You speak for those of us who can't. You rock!!!

However, I have to try since I want to return to nursing school in the fall of this year. I am actually going to see a friend and going out to eat and I am terrified and I want to cry. On the contrary, I don't want to remember my 20s as the time I had an eating disorder. Thank you for posting this and let's FIGHT this demon together 💕

  • @ravengemini2331

I think mental health struggles, because they’re often difficult to see, and don’t always have an easily-defined end point, cause discomfort to some people that haven’t experienced them, similar to chronic illnesses. These types of illness challenge conventionally healthy peoples’ idea that there is a pre-set “right” thing to do, and then you get better, end of story. We struggle for a long time, and often people with chronic illnesses never “get better”, and people don’t want to have to reconcile that with themselves, so they get frustrated when we talk about our lives and recovery and processes because it reminds them of that thing they don’t want to think about.

10:54 exactly! I think most people cant handle difficulties and pain from others. If you have the flu people feel sorry of you but they know its nothing serious. I think they think about it more like a light gossip, an interesting new. But when something serious come, like a maybe fatal illness or a mental health problem they cant deal with it. They actually go away or they limit their time with you.
When i say people i mean the general public. Of course you meet wonderful friends who support you. But yea i think something like that happens.

Talking about recovery is healthy! Anorexia is a symptom of other issues that need to be dealt with. However, the compulsion to not eat is an existential threat, so it’s important to focus on making sure you are eating and gaining weight to get back to a healthy weight. Have you ever considered adding yoga and meditation to your days? Those both can be very helpful. Also, I’ve noticed you have the most beautiful hands! You could literally be a hand model!!!

I hope you keep talking about it because someone like myself DOESN’T understand. As crazy as it sounds, I would like to live a day in your head just to get it. To be like OMG that’s what she’s talking about. I’m very naive when it comes to mental illness as well as eating disorders so, please, if I say something wrong don’t take it badly! I check your account every day and follow tiktok. I’m just obsessed with trying to understand! If this helps, I think someone like me thinks ok, you like food…. So eat! I have to remind myself, as you’ve said and I’m learning, it’s not so much the “food”. Your brain is different than mine. I do have anxiety and am on medication so I try to compare sometimes.
I just wanted to say please for someone like me who doesn’t understand, keep posting! You’re an amazing person for sharing and I pray for the best for you!

Something that is helping me overcome the exercise urges is to recognise and accept that I am gaining weight anyway so whats the point of continuing to punish myself through exercise? While I am gaining I want to rewire my brain too. You and I dont want to be weight restored and still have an anorexia mind do we? When I am weight restored I want to be mentally free too. Food and exercise freedom! If you dont work on the exercise than you will be weight restored and still be prisoner to exercise urges.

Mental health and things like anorexia get the same kind of attitudes as a drug addiction. Just like people think that drug addicts should just "stop taking drugs" because it's easy in their blinkered opinion. They think that anorexic people should just eat and they will get better
