    I drove a 156 2.5 V6 for 11 years and loved it. Unfortunately the floor pan rotted away and it was proving too costly to fix. So I swapped it for a GT 3.2 V6 and that rotted in the same way after 6 years of ownership. Both great cars though and I'm glad I owned them.

    Chris, instead of using the expensive carb cleaner or a brake cleaner, use paint thinner with a plastic brush, it is a bit stronger on removing old oil, paint and carbon buildup but have in mind that it will destroy o rings and most rubber seals

    Just bought my self a 156 1.8 Twin spark sports wagon👍🏼
    £180
    Body is clean and no major dents scratches at all! Very very presentable
    Only issues are
    -Front driver-side wheel bearing rough
    -and was an advisory last year in the same place as yours! Just in front of the rear arch!
    The 1.8 unit is great but unfortunately when the car gets warm there is. Slight and only very slight crunch in 3rd when changing above 3k revs,
    Is there any common problems I should look out for? Or is there a video you’ve done on it?

      Cheers for watching Ethan, sounds like a bargain! Typical problems that the 156 has is the obvious rust on the floorpan (inner wheel arches & front sills mostly) also the suspension bushes and ball joints need regular maintenance for the cars to drive nicely. Otherwise they are pretty solid and the Twinny engine is a great unit, check the oil levels every week if you want trouble free motoring. 👍🏻

The 1.9 jtdm diesel engines are pretty reliable but not that quick. If you want a diesel, the 2.4 5-cylinder is a cracking motor with lots of power and decent economy. Try asking on the Facebook “Alfabook” page if anyone is selling. Better to buy from an enthusiast in my opinion. Good luck 👍🏻

    Cool alloys, what are they from? They look like a good alternative to the GTA Teledials that lots of 156/147 owners aspire to. I currently run those 5 spoke 17" Selespeed ones which look a bit dull but are easy to clean! Toyed with looking for 17" GTV Teledials but I'm not entirely sure they fit on a 156 properly without spacers...

    • @TheAlfaNut
      @TheAlfaNut  4 года назад +1

      Those are very rare 17” 166 Supersport replicas, designed for the 156’s offset and pattern, so no adapters, spacers or other dangerous crap - they are a direct bolt on fit. No idea of the makers name but apparently they were made by a small volume private company which no longer exists. I’ve never seen another set anywhere and I only know about their history from a former owner who was told those details by the guy he bought the car off in about 2008! Personally I don’t like GTA teledials, they look a bit wrong to me, I prefer original 17” GTV teledials.

    • @Negativvv
      @Negativvv 4 года назад

      Rare indeed. I think I've only ever seen those wheels either in a brochure or a concept car... GTA teledials on non GTA cars is the Alfa Romeo version of M3 alloys on lesser 3 series! Would invest in a set of GTV 17" teledials but I'd rather save the money for maintenance!

    Oh boy. I almost decided to let it go in spite of that not being structural at all. It was however the only real damage so I decided to repair it. Compared to Alfa's XM's are rustproof saints! Still yours is a great car and it deserves the persistence.

We do get of torrential rain, but that's just a lot of fresh water. The biggest issue we have is shit roads. The Alfa suspension is not designed for such rough roads with pot holes every where.
