I know most don't share my sentiments on the Baktrian Horse Archers, but they really are an awesome unit. Heavy shot + precision shot + that high rate of fire can tear down any unit really quickly. Even once they're out of ammo and all they are left facing are some spearmen, they can destroy them by dismounting (they have terrible charge bonus anyways) and attacking the spears. This way, the spears' bonus vs cavalry is not activated, meanwhile these guys dont lose out on the stats that matter most-their melee attack and weapon damage. The men have HP of 55 which means they are quite capable and wont die like flies when dismounted.
Any archer unit with heavy shot, and an archer ability (Quick Reload, Precision Shot, or even Rapid Reload) makes them a beast, slingers might have larger range, but their damage is awful.

No I do not pretend to be a martial artist but it always made sense to me that swords should have an advantage against other kinds of infantry and that Spears should have an advantage against cavalry now I understand they pretty much remove that to make the battles not be over in half a second but if you ask me that it's kind of weird the game sort of started falling apart or at least multiplayer
Heir, when discussing balance, you shouldn't compare units from totally different factions so closely. I'm referring specifically to your passing comparison of Hellenic Cataphracts and Eastern Cataphracts. Yes, Eastern Cataphracts are more cost effective. It's supposed to be that way. Hellenic factions have better swords, better spears, they have pikes, better javelin skirmishers, Thureos Spears, and so on. Both factions with Hellenic Cataphracts also have elephants. Baktria even has comparable horse archers and Seleucids get chariots. Greeks are supposed to lose to eastern factions in a cataphract fight. They couldn't just make Hellenics super crappy 'cause then it would be a useless cataphract unit, so in order to balance the way they wanted, they also had to make Hellenics a little more expensive than they could have been. The idea is that you can make a Hellenic cataphract build if you want. The tools are available to you, but it's going to be weaker and more expensive than with an eastern faction. That's because cataphracts are not the tactical focus of Hellenic faction design. Doesn't mean Hellenics are useless. It just means you probably shouldn't take very many of them. Also, I still think you're underselling elite persian archers. All you need to do is make sure they're supported and enemy heavy cav won't be able to take them out very easily.

Pinkerton00 Well Parthian swords are actually pretty good tools. They do win in 1v1 vs thorax's, that doesn't even count if you get a frontal ccav charge with your catas first.
Michael Bialas for EE he has done Baktria, Athens, Ardiaei, Arevaci, and Armenia. No Arveni has been done. I looked one month worth of vids to make sure.
I feel if your opponent made his army focus one flank of your army while defending with his flank hoplites, I think he would have a better chance since your front line was stretched so long that one flank will not be able to reinforce the other, and if you just order that flank to collapse on the other flank, you'll blob up and his hoplite can lock a blob. but good fight anyways
heir talks about it a lot in his videos, and it is using a cheap unit like a vigille or for carthage a late Libyan hoplite to dull the charge bonus of the enemy swords, and then get your swords into combat and this should help them gain some kills. and then basically use shock cav or elephants or just swords and javs if using rome or carthage. hope this helps!
or if you other tings to do, i like playing a pike/hoplite faction like Sparta or Macedon, and just pike box with hoplite wall behind them and keep javlinmen or archers in the middle and missle cav on the outside. or if i have homework to do i skip the missle cav and just use more pikes instead so i just do homework during campaign battles against barbarian sword spam XD
Haven't actually tried this in practice yet, but on an open map, Pontus should be able to excel versus a sword spam. 4-6 Noble Blood cav should dominate a cav fight and be able to mop up / keep pressure on skirmishers, and then 2-3 scythed chariots should be more than a sword line can handle, even heavily armored. Extra money can go into Pontic peltasts or something as an infantry line. Though, fair warning, I imagine the kind of people who bring excessive sword spams are also the kind of people who would ragequit rather than play it out if you started beating them with scythed chariots...
I would like to add a high charge,high attack and ligth armor for the spanish tribes.I do already know that most of their units already have quite good charges, but this unit would preferably be some sort of beast, wrecking middle tear swords on the charge completely. This would then open up for holes in their ranks allowing more of their units to pass on through the lines and their charge the enemy infantry in the back. The disadvantage with them is that they have very low armor and are quite expensive, 950-ish talents for a unit that may become completely useless, will make them not become completely dominant in the field.

yea it gets really boring. everyone plays as boii/tylis with 4 to 6 heavy horse sword follower/fierce sword spam, a couple oathys and some freemen, shit gets really redundant very quickly

It was probably the hardest build of all to beat, except for the Suebi fear rush of patch 13/14, when fear was so OP.

They could use more melee def. As a unit that costs 700, I really neevr find them worth it, because of the low armor for the price, and low melee def.

Thureos spears have 7 javs I'm pretty sure which I find amazing. They are just really really good peltasts and usually replace all my foot skirmishers

Elite persian archers aren't worth it though, Syrians are cheaper and they have the same missile attack, 25 more armour, and better melee capabilities

only thing you need for baktria is a full stack of horse archers. you can destroy anyone with that...

Odrysian Kingdom. Mid-tier melee unit with the same sword as the Thracian Peltasts, 60 armour, 30 charge, 34 melee attack.
an eastern archer unit that fights in melee with an axe. this could be the royal peltast of the eastern world. insane armour and insane weapon damage.
Sparta.
Mid-tier shock cavalry (like thessalian cav but nerfed a bit) so Sparta is more viable.
Getae armoured falxman, or some sort of elite Pontic sword.
