The Democrats' problem is that 1) many voters would be concerned about the country under a Harris Presidency, and 2) if they bypassed Harris to pick a different Presidential candidate they would lose a portion of their base that they cannot afford to lose. You are right that it is, or should be, about the country right now and for the next four months rather than the election, but in either case, unseen unelected staffers are going to be the ones making the decisions. Pray nobody does something stupid between now and November. All our lives depend on it.
