Dir en grey gets painted into a corner because of the types of songs that get the most requests, the shock music videos or heavy avant-garde Kyo vocal songs, but they have a very diverse catalog, especially when you account for how long they have been around and how differently they approach each album. You don't step into the same river twice with Dir en grey.
Indeed. It's kinda tiring seeing people suggesting Vinushka and different sense. That's the kind of songs they would said about Diru, when they have much more variety in their sounds.
It's crazy that, nearly two years after getting into the Japanese scene, I still haven't got around to giving Dir en Grey a proper go. Too many good bands! But I'll do so now.
Dir en grey is an amazing band regardless of where they're from. They definitely not like Ramnstein. Nothing against Ramnstein but they're pretty limited and mainly make industrial music. Diru are some of the best songwriters in the world, and Kyo as far as I've heard is the most talented vocalist there's ever been. He can sing anything, and better than anyone. They don't have a bad song and they have a song for every emotion.
@@parithian8462 I was referring to the ''scary'' and ''ballads'' part, not as a whole. I don't like comparisons, but DeG are compared to Korn and Tool as well. I see them as Dir en grey only, but i also can see why they are compared to those bands. I know very well what DeG are and what they can do. In the chat of the video (livestream of Wave Potter) someone said they find the band scary. So i made the comparison with Rammstein only because of the shock value, theatrics, make up, music videos both bands have. If one is denying the band because of the visuals, i want to point out there is more than the visual and they might like that. Perhaps it's not even fair to have this talk in the OP's comment, i should've made it separate.
@@ohcomeongetoutofhere What album(s) would you recommend to a new listener? If it's relevant, I'm not a huge fan of the three western bands you referenced (I'm more into prog and symphonic metal and old-school bands like Iron Maiden and Rainbow, plus obviously Band-Maid, Lovebites, Sokoninaru, Asterism etc.).
@@kicorse Uroboros, Dum spiro spero, Arche, The Unraveling EP While i love ''Marrow of a bone'' and ''Withering to Death'', they are probably not for you then. Those albums came around the time DEG toured with Korn and are more nu metal influenced.

You definitely should. They are like Rammstein - scary, but the ballads are awesome.
