Hard to fathom that one huge part of The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, is still alive here with us. Doc Severinsen. But I am very happy that this is the case. It's a long gone era, a time that we all look back at with great joy and happy feelings. Still here on RUclips for us to rewatch. As a young trumpet player in school bands, in the 60’s & 70’s, Doc Severinsen was an idol of mine as well as fellow trumpet players. Also saw him when he toured a Yamaha instrument manufacturing facility in Grand Rapids, MI, where I worked at the time. Thank you sir for your musical inspiration 🎺🤗👏.
Saw Doc a few years ago at Northridge Performing Arts Center. Got a front row seat on the side. He did not miss a note. It was a thrill. Happy Birthday Sir, bravo..

IMO, one of the most talented bands to ever grace the airwaves was the NBC Orchestra led by Doc Severinsen. Just wish I could have seen them live..... Happy B-Day, Doc!!

A friend met him recently working out at a gym in Tennessee Sevier county. Still healthy and a humble man. Great memories on Johnny Carson's tonight show.
Happy birthday, Doc!! Saw a wonderful documentary within the past year or so, might have been American Masters on PBS.... Was so good to see many of those classic Carson moments again, and also what you're involved with since then, teaching young folks and passing along the wisdom of a lifetime of music. Hadn't realized the physicality required to continue to play trumpet at that high level. I was so impressed --- You're truly remarkable! Thanks for all those many years of stellar entertainment!

What a long and amazing career he's had. He started out in the big band era working with giants such as Charlie Barnet & Tommy Dorsey in the late 1940s. I envy him.

I was a high school trumpet player living just 60 miles away from Enid at the time and was actually there for that fabulous concert and still have the record of the whole show. Doc is accompanied here by the Falconaires from the USAF Academy Band. Hearing Doc live there and also the year before at the same festival inspired me more than any of the other great trumpet players I've heard before or since. It convinced me that I just had to pursue a career as a professional trumpet player. Thanks, Doc!
