Hyaluronic acid pulls moisture from the air. If there is no moisture in the air, it will pull moisture from your skin, thus drying you out. It is best to apply hyaluronic skincare products to a damp face.

Oh my gosh. That explains so much. I live in the flippin desert, and I have found that oil free moisturizers just don’t work for me, and most of those have hyaluronic acid.
Yeah I can’t use hyaluronic acid in winter, because the air is so dry.

That's why I always apply an occlusive lotion/cream/moisturizer over the top of an HA serum. If I use an HA product during the day, I will use a moisturizing spray to refresh my skin throughout the day so the HA doesn't suck the moisture out of my skin. Works well for my skin.

I'm an Esthetician and I have come to the conclusion that if Hyaluronic Acid cannot find water in the air to bind to your skin, it pulls the moisture from beneath your skin which causes the dryness. So if your environment is more dry... Hyaluronic Acid wont be as effective as someone in a more humid environment. So that's why you think it doesnt work for you, it's more so the environment you're in.
Mallory Toth I’m an Esti as well and I was coming to comment something very similar! 👌🏼 It’s a humectant so it’s going to pull that moisture from anywhere it can. (Including your skin, which would have the opposite of the desired affect.)
That's fascinating! Thank you so much for sharing! I found in the summer months my skin was loving it but the last few weeks it's been brutal cold here and I'm not reacting well to using it at all anymore. Seriously, thank you!
I wonder if spraying a light mist of water over it would do anything. Or if it would keep pulling in moisture all day and would need a constant humid environment.
If you use a wet mask over top, it helps. So put on the HA on damp skin, then apply a damp muslin cloth overtop and leave for about 5-10 minutes to help the absorption
I’ve seen dermatologists say that HA doesn’t constantly pull moisture, it only pulls whatever water was left on skin when applied, which is why they suggest applying to a damp face... 🤷🏻♀️

My doctor told me the only thing you should ever put in your bath water is Epsom salt, because literally anything else can potentially cause an infection. But I have so much candida on my body that I can't take baths at all, so what do I know, lol.

HA is a humectant, meaning it’s going to draw moisture from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration. If you put it on dry skin it will dry your skin out.
If it’s applied to damp skin it will pull that moisture into your skin and really hydrate.
I have horribly dry skin and have struggled with it until doing some SERIOUS research on skincare ingredients. I hope this helps. ❤️😌

They are beautiful & so multi-functional .
They actually have some duo chrome eyeliners :)
I pat the loose pigments over just applied lipstick without the mixing medium. It can look very dramatic, especially over darker or even black lipstick. But Kristi is so right. The camera just can't capture it.

Hey Kristi! Hyaluronic acid is a humectant - a substance that draws moisture to itself. So when you put it on your face, you have to be in an environment that has at least some moisture content in the air. If you are somewhere where the air is quite dry (or it's winter and the radiators have zapped all the moisture out of the air), the hyaluronic acid doesn't have anything to draw. Therefore it can then draw the moisture out from the deeper layers of your skin onto its surface, having the opposite of the desired effect.
if you live somewhere dry, I'd recommend using hyaluronic acid after a steamy shower or boiling some water near you and letting the steam moisten the air! :)

Those pigments with the mixing medium seem like they would make amazing liners. Like a sparkly purple wing? Yes!
I've had the same issue with hyaluronic acid drying me out; in dry climates, what it ends up doing is taking the moisture from your skin and releasing it into the air. It basically takes moisture where it can, and the air is generally dryer than our skin in dry climates. I can't use anything with HA because of the climate I live in. Although HA is touted as an amazing, hydrating ingredient, it is probably only amazing in places where sufficient humidity exists. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
I think it's because you need to use in combination with really hydrating products as it does draw moisture like you said. (Especially given your climate)
Apply it to wet skin or over top a moisturizer.
