This is a very exciting project. You make it look so easy & affordable.
I've been following velomile technology since the early 90s, but just too expensive.
What I'd like to see is pedal electric amplification like the raht racer.
The reasons for this, a highly aerodynamic pedal car is that people like me tend to become sedetary. Regarding your legs, USE THEM OR LOSE THEM! And the buildup of arteriosclerosis follows elsewhere, especially arteries feeding our magnificent brains. Its an old age defier.
Also a time saver, don't have to waste precious time at the gymn spinning, if you have a long commute.
Light weight electric will help save the planet.
Lastly, most omportantly, you can get out of the gutter in city traffic which often requires 40 mph. & YOU CAN BOOGIE ON THE FREEWAY!
    Best of both worlds!
A telescoping boom for pedals, for exercise keeps long & short people happy without shifting center of gravity.
It should be possible for the Raht Racer guys to sell a kit to install their pedal youtself healthy geberator into any vehicle with a battery, to save that 1/4 horsepower you're making, rather than waste it.
This is a very exciting age we live in as we approach singularity, oneness with God, via science, in just another generation or so.
The writings of sci-fi ignite the new age of enlightenment.
    To Mars & the stars!
Gotta have that kit when you finish it! Might wind up a hybrid until solid state batteris, then with a few extras, folding wings, that trike will fly!
I know just the place to show the ET assisters, the kids on bikes helping that shell free turtle from the stars to get home.
In Marina del Rey, CA, there's a little stretch called the 90 Freeway. If we can get the streamliners & velomobiles, including those with electric assist & amplification, also ICE & hybrids, instead of just at Battle Creek Mountain, NV, the world will get the message!

Hey Paul - been watching your series and its a great little project. I've often thought about building a little trike like this too. Glad to see you going for it.
One thought about your skin to cover. On airplanes (like old Tri Pacers, ultralights and the like) they have a doped fabric skin that is light weight but taught. May be able to drape that over some rigid foam (think impact foam from a car bumper or sheet foam insulation for a home) to make a smooth body and give a little protection. Can be painted too. 🤔

Square metal tubing cooperates a lot better if you put a spine on the wooden form. The width of a pencil or less. That gives excess material on the inside edge a place to go rather than make random lumpies and bumpies. I debated for a long long time about building a reverse trike streamliner.
Don't scare me like that, you turned a shocking shade of pink there for a minute.

    Why not electric?

As Jorry Squibb once said, 'you can get a lot of energy out of one gallon of gas.' You just have to optimize the vehicle.

@@paulwelkinsdiy Indeed gasoline is very energy dense, but gas engines are only around 15% efficient. Diesel ones are 25%. Electric motors are 95% efficient (for brushless AC, slightly less for brushed or DC). That makes up much of the difference. It's how Tesla can make cars with 500 mile battery options using today's li-ion cells.

The no tint rule on the windshields I think is because the film hinders the breaking if the safety glass... If you have a milder perspex windshield then it doesn't have that ability to shatter into tiny safe bits so the film ban is irrelevant.. you could try that argument if you protest a decision it is illegal

Classification for bikes and tint... think about that for a minute. No cop can touch you legally except for speeding or driving on a sidewalk. The tint can be as dark as you want on a bike.

Put sand in the tubing. Any kinks in the bend will render the finished part unsound, and will likely fail in an accident.
