  • At least five on Florida's west coast have died during hurricane Ian, a local sheriff has confirmed, as the state wakes up to catastrophic flooding and widespread devastation, following one of the largest storms in US history.
In what is the first report of people losing their lives, Carmine Marceno, the Lee County Sheriff said: ""We have roughly five (dead)."
Mr Marceno earlier said that "fatalities are in the hundreds."
His county includes Fort Myers, which bore the brunt of 150mph winds and a storm surge of more than eight feet. Now, the town of 92,000 people is four feet underwater.
