Yep. The purpose, in this case, would be two-fold. The first is a gesture of gratitude and the second being a position of support and defense. After all, that was a moment of relinquished guard on his behalf. As he is talking to another man, a stranger at that, about his feelings. Moreover, those feelings and speaking on them now both come from a vulnerable place for most men. Not only is he noting the possibility of rejection he was worried about, but he's saying this in public after all, and on camera, to a man that could vert well decide to pass judgment in his next comment. Yet he's doing so anyway because that is what happened, and it's a well-known fact that women value honesty. Particularly in cases when shes relinquished all control to him by letting him speak for them both. So that may very well be a lot of trust she had put in him in that moment as well. After all, he could have simply made her tell it. That way, he wouldn't have bad to shoulder anything of the sort. Heck, he could have simply let her speak the whole time, been cocky regarding their situation, or just plain lied at the parts that made note of him insecurities. However, he could tell she was feeling really shy, and so he decided to tell it the way he knew it was. Therefore, he told it the way he thought she would have. Women tend to focus on the things men do that show kindness, sensitivity, and vulnerability. Emotional strength, as we know that they already have the phyaical, but we can't see inside their heart and mind unless they choose to show us... So, of course, that is where the biggest worries often lie. Yet, in that moment, it was those very aspects he had chosen to display. All whilst taking the lead in an otherwise awkward conversation happening on camera. There was a lot that had just occurred there in those few moments, and so she was thanking him for that. As if saying... Hey, I see you. I appreciate this. Now, while this can basically be done by making any gesture of physical closeness at that very moment. That move in particular, however, is one that's meant to quite literally put herself all around him. It's a protective move that we do when someone we care for is perhaps feeling overwhelmed, and/or they have put themselves between us and a dangerous or uncomfortable situation. One foot in front of and one foot directly behind his. This is saying to those around you... This here is my turf. He is under my protection because he put me under his. At the same time, it's telling him that she has his back and that he's doing great. Truly, a sweet interview, although im sure they were happy when it was over. Lol
