When my instructor asked me what I wanted in a beginner trumpet, I told him I would like a well functioning, affordable professional instrument so that I would know when I was doing the right or wrong things with the horn. He showed me a few models, and when I pointed at the 1959 Conn 6B, he said, "Good choice." I have been very happy with the selection.
I really enjoy your videos and hearing you play the different horns. Even the garage setting is great. Hearing the vintage trumpets makes me appreciate my early 1950's vintage Anton Courtois balanced model. I just wish I played as well as you.
Many guys say the 38B Constellation and the 6B Victor plays virtually the same; what's your opinion? I'm mad to get a 38B but they do not sell for peanuts. The 6B is more affordable. Thanks for your advice!!
JI El Have a Sept 62 38B Near pristene Beautiful like new got it for a bargain ashamed to tell the price from a neighbor . It's so beautiful I use my Olds Special for my practice.. but I'll never part . I once read of a man who sold one and regretted it forever . Lesson Learned . good Luck .
Congratulations on the way you play. Can I know that you used mouthpiece to produce this sound? Is it true that this trumpet changes a lot depending on the mouthpiece used? Thank you
Thanks Nino! I played this on an ACB (Austin Custom Brass) 3B mouthpiece. Yes mouthpiece choice can make a big difference but I wouldn't say these horns are affected more than other trumpets by a mouthpiece change. Conn 38b 36b 8b 6b are kind of the same family and have really unique feel and sound compared to most other brands/models. Some like them and some don't, I really like them.
I like the 6b a lot and it is in the same ballpark as the 38b for sure in terms of sound and feel. The 8b is really a different animal, totally different leadpipe and smaller lighter bell and sound and feel is different. You would have to play them both to know which one you prefer, I prefer the 8b but they are pricey.

What program are you playing with? I have a Conn Victor 6B that I picked up for $100. Looks rough but plays great.
That's a great deal. I am playing with the iReal Prop app.
