I agree: Watching reaction videos is -usually- a way to vicariously relive seeing/hearing something for the first time. But for your channel in particular, it means so much more than that to me. I think it was maybe a year and a half ago when my husband introduced me to reaction videos. Before that I wasn't even aware they were a thing. Your channel was one of his favorites, so the first time I ever watched one of your reaction videos was because of my husband. In particular, he loved how you became a U.S. citizen, loved your patriotism, and loved how you unashamedly discuss your faith. One of the first of your reactions that I watched was your reaction (along with your lovely wife) to George Jones singing "He Stopped Loving Her Today." Fast forward to Sept 11, 2023 - and my day started by calling 911 (ironically) and my husband went into the hospital. Exactly three weeks later, on Oct 2, 2023, still in the hospital, he passed away. Now, when i watch your reactions, I think of my husband and how much he enjoyed your channel. Don't underestimate the impact you have on people's lives. You never know exactly how someone may be touched by what you do. Here's hoping for many more reaction videos from you.

🧱 "You never know exactly how someone may be touched by what you do." - This is a fundamental principle of life. It doesn't just apply to one reactor, it's all of us. Small things, things we say to strangers, can have a larger effect than we would think.
You can say _one_ thing to someone, and it can stick with them for a lifetime. For good or bad. It then pays to watch what you do, and your intentions when you do it, or say it.
You don't know what's happening in that person's life. Just like this reactor didn't know about this woman's situation, her husband, their connection. But the way he presents his videos, his tone, his enthusiasm, it makes a difference.
People are lonely, in an over-connected, yet isolated world. Reaction videos are not merely about re-experiencing media. Reaction videos make one feel like they're watching something they like, with a friend, and enjoying their friend liking it too. It's social.
Helping lonely people feel less alone.

I'll be honest. When I first encountered a Music Reaction Channel, I thought it was a silly and pointless exercise...
    BUT, I WAS SO WRONG.
Who am I? I am a 70-year-old mom, grandma and great-grandma. One of my best friends calls me Flower Child or Hippie Wannabe.
Why do I like reactions? I love hearing old favorites again. I love discovering new groups and genres. I also LOVE seeing new generations hear "my" music for the first time.

Sebs, What they said. No need to justify yourself. Yours is one of two channels that I regularly watch. You are knowledgeable and enthusiastic, and the only person who knows the value of editing and does it well. All of which makes your channel truly entertaining. I am still catching up with you from 2 years ago and will re-watch the reactions of yours I most enjoyed. I hope that offers some kind of meta what-comes-around validation. For you and me both. FWIW, I’m the father of two girls and I enjoy sharing that with you too. Mine are in their twenties and it is still worth every minute. Keep on doing it your way.

It’s about mutual appreciation. Thats what makes it work. I’ve watched reaction videos of people you can tell are exaggerating their appreciation of the music/ian or use it as a way to bloviate and make them the center of appreciation, and it’s so off-putting. Your reactions have been a joy to watch because they’re genuine. Keep doing what you do as long as you really enjoy the discovery, and we will too.

I’ve been a ‘popular music’ fan for most of my life (I’ll turn 77 later this year), so my love for music goes back to the 30’s and 40’s music that my parents loved. In school band (I played trumpet) I learned to love John Phillip Sousa! Then I played in a dance combo at parties and school dances! I said all the to tell you this: I tune in to your reaction channel every morning. I find you to be refreshingly honest, whatever music you are reviewing. I never tire of your takes. Keep it up!
Special request for Glad All Over by the Dave Clark Five, and if you react to it I promise you a cute story about it!
    Love & Prayers,
    Guy

I love reaction channels. They've renewed my interest in bands I've loved for a long time, and I've discovered so much that is new to me as well. Also, reliving the days as a teenager in the 80s when my friends and I would spend hours listening to new music or watching MTV. Now it'd be called live reacting except there were no cameras. Your authenticity and genuine reactions are fun to watch.

Sebs, i'm 61 years old. I watch several music and movie reaction channels. You're right, it makes me happy to see younger folks enjoy/discover the entertainment of my youth. Please feel NO guilt because "making a reaction channel is easy." If it was so easy, every reaction channel would have >10k subs. Yes, the production might be easy but what about honesty, connection with your audience, enthusiasm, communication skills, etc. Those are the skills you have and bring that many others lack. As a reaction channel consumer, the main thing I ask from you is honesty in your reactions- good, great, or not so good. Finally, remember "If you're good at something (aka find it easy and enjoyable to do) you should get paid for it."

I've seen so many that just sit and act like bobble heads with closed eyes and then go "yeah that was great." With your appreciation of music and musicianship. I can fairly easily piggyback on someone else's enthusiasm. So, for me, reaction videos, which I discovered during COVID, are often a joyful thing. I'm watching someone else with a similar passion to one of mine (music) discover stuff I remember that they hadn't known about, and fall in love with it like I did. In your case, Sebs, that's included your recent dives into Canadian music (I'm a Canuck).
But a ramble like this is interesting too. Enjoy hearing the personal history. Keep going, Sebs...

I'm a later boomer I turned 13 in 1970 with all the wonderful music your learning about being one of the most exciting things in my life. I lived in a small rural town with a radio station that played country music except for kacey kacem's countdown and like many young people I thought country was silly (I've been over that for a long time thankfully) and we would haunt the dime store buying unheard 45s and vinyl albums of artist we'd heard something by or sometimes just take a chance with our hard earned allowance money on an artist we hadn't heard of. 😮 when we found something cool and you've learned what a lot of that is we wanted to share it with our friends. We'd call them and one of us would come to the other's house (sometimes as much as a five mile bike ride to listen to it together ) the one who had heard it would proudly share it with one or more friends listening and watching to see everyone's reaction. It was a huge part of our childhood and the delight of sharing and forming our ideas on life sitting around scratchy little portable record players shaped our lives and thoughts. When we see reactor seeing things for the first time it it reconnects us to that wonderful time. That's how life was before share buttons😊

I used to watch just random reaction videos until I picked one of yours and you react to the video without picking the music and singers, pointing out what you feel are mistakes or talking tech speak. So now I'm subscribed and barely ever listen to other reaction videos. I've told a lot of my family members they should watch you. Since I now know how much you enjoy guitar I have suggestions of people you should listen to, not for reaction videos, but for your own pleasure. Trace Bunde is excellent for relaxing, he creates his own music and he's amazing. Justin Johnson plays mostly blues, and I swear he can turn anything into a guitar. Ammo boxes, old shovels, ironing boards, even 🛹. Jamie Dupuis plays mostly a harp guitar, which if you've never heard one is an amazing instrument. I'm 59 and have been disabled for several years due to a stroke and am pretty much confined to my apartment since I can't drive so you're a pretty big part of my day.

You are correct, at least for me, it’s all about seeing and hearing the music I love through someone else as they watch for the first time.
There are many channels out there but it’s the reactors personality which keeps me coming back. I have to admit that usually watch reactions to music I already love. I also like to try and promote new artists by requesting reactions to new rock bands like Dea Matrona and blues rockers like Ally Venable and Madison Galloway.

Sebs, watching reaction channels are what gets me through each day!! I love and look forward to your reactions, being paralyzed and wheelchair bound, with having only 3 accessible rooms in my house, and limitations to what I can do outside due to the terrain of our yard/land; unfortunately, would devastate me. But, I know that you have to do what's best for you and your family. My advice would be to give it to God and pray about it, and then make a decision based on what's best for you and your family. However, I do feel like there's a connection, Godly and friendly, between you and I. Especially since you've come to know the backstory behind my spinal cord injury, and you posting the link to my GoFundMe. Brother, you do whatever you have to do to be happy in life.

I enjoy reaction videos because they often view the music that made me who I am, that I grew up on. It's such a good feeling seeing newbys digging what I've been digging for years. I've sampled many folks, even subscribed to several. You and one other are the only ones who've lasted. I love classic rock (I'm 62) and forever country. Reaction videos are important. Don't undersell yourself.
First, as you pointed out, us older folks can never again have the experience of discovering great songs and artists that blew our minds when we heard it for the first time, and it is fun watching new audiences have that experience, it's fun seeing what music stands the test of time, fun seeing a young person fall in love with something new to them but old.
Second, most modern music is awful and young people are hungry for good music. I have experience where a grandkid will say, hey gramps, check out this song I heard on a reaction channel and it turns out to be something I have loved since it came out before their parents were born. Now they ask me to recommend stuff they might like and we talk about it, a bonding experience where they get to know me a little better and I get to know them.
Third, a lot of the old artists are in their 70s and 80s. They will be gone sooner than later. What better way to introduce them to new audiences and keep their legacy alive after they are gone? I don't understand why some artists claim copywrite on reactors when they should realize they are getting free publicity and exposure to new audiences in their old age.
Fourth, young musicians are being inspired by things they discover online to create music that breaks the formula and mold of what passes for popular music today. I believe that in the coming years there will be a renaissance of great new boundary breaking music like happened in the 60s.
Keep doing what you are doing. Keep discovering new stuff and sharing with us.

There are tv shows called Gogglebox in the UK and Australia that are pretty much just watching people watch tv and I thought that had to be the stupidest thing ever... and then I fell into a couple of reaction channels that aren't that different. I couldn't begin to explain the appeal to family so YT reaction channels are a guilty pleasure. But listening to you just now, it made sense. It's kind of like having this favourite movie or song and remembering when you were on that first wave. When you and your mates all were jamming on a brand new Bowie album or going to see Star Wars with your friends way too many times. Talking about it with outsiders is way too much like imposing your vacation pics on others
It's kind of nice to validate those memories, especially when you start feeling like an old fart and the 60s-90s were much longer ago than you''d like to think about. When you see an honest reaction, it does bring back that day you listened to that new album 20 times and your friends understood. But for a couple of minutes, someone sees what we saw. (now people relive their memories on IG video later that same afternoon - we had to wait 40 years, lol)
The flip side is that a lot of reaction channels are more like overreaction channels. It's pretty clear a lot of them sell it hard and build that subscriber base. I know at least one channel that's just re-reacting to all the same stuff I saw her react to under another name. Of course, every single song is a.m.a.z.i.n.g. That's not a shared moment, that's a politician. Just feels patronising, so thanks for not being one of those people.

All my life I have had people tell me my music choices SUCKED!! I was a teenager in the 1980's and liked country music and didn't like the popular music. Reaction channels came out and I could see people who would have criticized my music without listening to it actually listening to it and liking it. It's been wonderful seeing people like you discover what I have always loved. Furthermore, I was never a fan of certain genre types, acapella being one of them, but because my favorite Reactors were listening to guys like Voiceplay and Home Free I discovered them too. I found Reaction channels about two weeks ago. I watch your channel and a couple of other channels with a rap/hip hop artist hosting (they are also content creators) with a sprinkle of others that catch my attention. Don't be embarrassed or feel fake. Don't think all content creators are narcissists. there is a huge difference between a narcissist and someone that wants to be liked. Please read up on narcissism.
I am glad your channel grew from gaming into a music react channel and I can see it will grow as you progress. Yes, I love seeing younger folks react and get exposed to music that I have loved for 60 years for the first time. It is almost a good as seeing my great grands react for the first time. However, I have also learned from these channels as well. I have a very eclectic taste in music, but there are a couple of genre that I could not stand. I firmly believe in Music can sooth the savage soul and it can also turn a soul savage depending on what you listen to. Think about how movies use music to play on our emotions. Because of react channels like yours: I have revisited things I forgot about that I love, been exposed to music I have never heard before and have added to my eclectic play list, and I have actually found some young rap / hip hop artists, that I can actually listen to and enjoy.
Don't give up the dream. Dreaming will take you far. People without dreams are stuck. Do your new content, like the ranch, rodeo, tractor pull and react, it will be fun and will be fun to watch for both your family and others. Yes, reaction channels are a way for people to live through the eyes of others. Some people can't go to a farm, rodeo, tractor pull, or trip and can see things they never would see. Love seeing you and Ali react to songs and am sure your creator content when it starts coming out will be good as well.

How is a reaction channel any different than having your friend listen to a song you love?
I started watching reaction channels during COVID when I was trying to avoid the constant news hysteria that saturated regular TV. I found a channel where a vocal coach was reacting. Then I found Dimash through thst vocal coach. Then I started watching anyone who was reacting to my favorite songs.
Just letting you know how it feels from the other side. Thanks for taking requests. Thanks for reacting to Marc Martel (who sings like Freddie Mercury, that was my request). Thanks for being open to country music. Thanks for offering the perspective of a guitar player. Thanks for sharing great songs with your wife.

I just thought of something. The “safe” reaction material seems to be content that originated on RUclips, for instance reactions to travel channels or body com or even cooking.
If you wanted to stick to music you could do it on live stream, that way the ad cents go to the artist and he audience can send super chats to support you.
Hope you get a blessing out of it. 💕

Sebs, you are one of the most self aware and personable “reactors” out there. That you are a good human being is obvious. I think your analysis of why an old geezer like me would watch is pretty close to the mark, but I hope you also draw some younger folks in and show them it is cool to appreciate music they would otherwise socially hate on. Keep on keeping on.

These type of channels bring joy to me experiencing what you’re experiencing for the first time. I relive my first time as you do when I watch these reactions. Hey more power to you and your following and if it brings you success man hats off to you.🎩

I found you because of my friend Ron and the Tori reaction. I liked this video you made and wish more reactors would do such. It shows the person you are and why that maybe you have a point of view that’s interesting. Just reacting to stuff out of left field only goes so far. I like the “why” behind the reaction, too. I didn’t like Country music and have my brother to thank for dragging me to Suzy Bogguss and Alan Jackson concerts back in the day. I’m not a Country-head but can enjoy it so much more. Keep up the good work, I’ll keep an eye out.

It's OK to be critical of some aspects of reaction channels, there are some that is just a person watching a video with little perspective on it. But it's a pleasure when a reactor actually reacts and has some point of view, something to say--I would put you in that category. Enjoy your reactions, including the ones with your sib, you and she have things to say, which is a key.

And as an older guy (60), there's some pleasure in seeing someone discover music I've taken for granted for decades. So just keep on keepin' on, bud!

I’m physically not able to get around very good. So these videos that you put out make me happy. It helps me have some enjoyment in life. So don’t worry about what people say or think when they’re talking negative to you. They don’t know the joy you bring to other people. If you enjoy it and it doesn’t get in the way of your time with your family so do it. If you are getting to where you don’t enjoy it then don’t do it. But you bring a lot of joy to a lot of people. Listening to some of the songs that you are playing is like me experiencing it again for the first time. Thank you I wish nothing but the best for you and your family.❤

I loved it when you went to work on that ranch. My mother grew up on a ranch in Wyoming. My dad was in the army and had orders for Vietnam and so we went home to Wyoming to live while he was gone. I got to work the ranch that one year, helping with haying, driving cattle, and other chores. I loved it. I think you will like rodeos and tractor pulls.

Normally when I would see a reaction video, I instinctually close it or not click on it. Last thing I wanted to do, was watch someone watching a video. My first reaction channel I watched from stumbling upon about 4 years ago was Elizabeth, The Charismatic Voice. With her being a professionally trained opera singer, I thought it was interesting to see her reactions, which are enduringly 100% real. She also gets into the technical side of singing and how they're doing this or that and also the music. So, I started giving other reactors a chance, some were/are genuine, a lot you could tell were just in it for the views only with a comment here and there and not really into it. I believe I started following you (Sebs) about a year to 18 months ago, enjoying how your library of music to listen to is growing. Variety is the spice of life, as they say.

The part that would close the circle between exploiting the material and adding to the artists' works is adding exposure. Mostly, reaction channels appeal to people who already know the material. The real contribution would be like radio, to reach interested people for whom the material is new to, too. Movie reactors can only do that on Patreon or other similar platforms, as they cannot expose people to the full material on YT. Music reactors have the opportunity to share music with a new audience, but nobody seems to have cracked the code for that yet. Content creators are so used to pandering to their audience as a recipe for success that establishing an audience who wants something new to them, and cannot really know what they want, isn't even on the skills radar. If you could find a way to grow appreciation and audience for the music or other material, then you would be doing a more useful service than simply self-promotion to those niches you can appeal to nostalgically.

Placing all 'reaction channels' in one space and saying they are all the same is like saying all men or women, or fast food restaurants are the same. I know there's some straight BS going on with some channels, every human who is going to give YT a shot is going to do it the way they want.
A lot of people in the world haven't been freely social in a long minute, hanging out with a cool person and listening to records should never go out of style. I grew up in the 70's, seemed like everyone was getting along a lot better, I think it had a lot to do with the music. Music was being influenced parts of the world that were easier to get to than ever before.
Humans are social creatures, I know sitting in the middle of the U.S. We've taken a lot of hard shots in the last 20-30 years, it's hard to be social with all the judgment flying around.

Don't confuse wanting to share and connect with others with wanting to be liked. It seems to me that you genuinely enjoy what you do and sharing with others... AND the best way is just being yourself and you'll attract subscribers that you can enjoy sharing with. Also, sharing is caring (hahah)… it can be a bit therapeutic to just put out videos and get other people's feedback.

There’s always a stronger microscope to see even smaller and smaller aspects of life.
I agree with some commenters, you might be over thinking this. If necessary; take a brain break and reevaluate yourself and what you’ve done. Revisit, tween if you have to but the main thing I felt was a break is necessary. Not long, but every plan we have in life always need to be re looked at and adjust as necessary.
You’re fine; your channel is great, but in the end you’ll be okay.
As my father once said, no matter what, take care of your responsibilities first and your family is at the top.
