"give our thoughts on a discussion topic" "citing sources for anything" ok source, I made it up. It's an opinion piece, there's nothing to cite and nowhere did the OP say or imply they wouldn't properly cite things if they were using sources. You don't need a source for your opinion but if the teacher wanted them to make an argument backed by evidence they should have said so and we're trusting that op didn't simply leave that part out trying to play the victim which failed horribly XD
But you are not the only one to discuss this topic. 1. You have gone to class and read certain sources that have helped construct your opinion. 2. You have used certain methodology that frames your opinion. 3. You are using a fact to support your opinion. These must all be cited.
@@lucythompson295I thought about countering your argument, actually wrote something out, and erased it because no, it wasn't in the instructions to do so because that's what an opinion assignment is. Also, you're setting a high bar to expect people to rely on facts to make their opinions XD
@ Hello, it clearly was in the assignment as the tutor noted he should have had them. Also, having gone to university, I can tell you that they are an unspoken rule - even for opinion pieces. A high bar has to be set as ultimately this is a college assignment.
@@lucythompson295 oh wow you went to uni? Crazy, so did I. Opinion pieces don't need citation and nothing you say will change that. unspoken rules don't matter.
@@scp2539 Well, I say unspoken, but I should have been clearer. You will find that in the style guide for either the assignment or for your degree. It’s unspoken because everyone (but you, op, and any person who liked your comment) clearly knows and understands. Nothing you say will change that.
For the last story, an actual maliicious compliance would have been including a long list of sources which consisted of 1. My Brain and My Opinions; OP Name; 2024 2. Ibid 3. Ibid etc
Rob, my man. For that boiler story, I think you are confusing it for a modern company. Businesses and companies back then(1940s), while yes, wanted profit still cared about their employees.
No, OP was right in story 4. It's an opinion piece so there wouldn't be any sources to cite. The only thing you could cite would be the piece of media you're writing your opinion on. It's a bit redundant but that's the only option.
Always, when you know the boss is giving you bad orders, get it in writing (or recording). This becomes your ticket to be on the bus instead of being thrown under it.
If I was OP, I'd have simply told Windshield Lady "I was hired to dispense fuel, Period. Washing windshields is an extra Service I am not required to do and thus I only do when 1) the station is not busy and 2) the Customer is Nice and Polite...you are neither Nice nor Polite thus I am not going to go outside my Job Description for you...[click] Your fuel is dispensed, have a nice day." 😄😁😆😅😂🤣
Ohh boy - the gas station story reminds me of a similar (but even better story) I have from working an all-night gas-station. I worked in a 24hr gas-station on the night-shift. locked-in to the store, customers would pay by putting money in the metal drawer if paying in cash....BEFORE filling up. Most of the taxi drivers were good guys but this one fat greasy-looking taxi driver would dump like 20euros worth of small change (coins) into the drawer and I'd only have it counted after he had gassed up and left...usually leaving us 20-30c short. Policy was that anything more than 5c short was a big deal for some reason (very low profit margins on gas). He was also very rude and treated me with disdain for no reason. Management didn't care that he was rude to me and caused me problems by making me delay other customers because of having to count the change...but they DID care that he would leave us 20c short every time. So the perfect opportunity came when the manager gave the green light to NOT authorize/activate the pump for THIS GUY ONLY, until AFTER I'd counted all the coins he would dump into the drawer LOL - Also, I'd just handed in my 2 week's notice....so I knew I was going to have fun with this guy. That night he did the usual coin dump, smirked at me and walked over to the pump to fill up. The buzzer was beeping (to auth the pump) while I started counting the coins, and he stood there shouting over at me to start the pump LOL I gave the biggest crap-eating grin and beckoned him over with my index finger like he was a naughty schoolkid. He refused and demanded I start the pump NOW. I continued to smile while shaking my head 'nope' and beckoned him over. He stomped over red with rage, and I told him I was under orders to count the money FIRST, before starting the pump to make sure he didn't shortchange us like he usually did. He threatened me that if it didnt start the pump I'd be in big trouble...and stomped back to the pump. Again I continued counting the money...again the pumps not starting for him...and in a complete rage he comes barrelling over screaming for me to start the pump - Again I explained - no can do - under orders! And I said "Oh no. You've made me lose count. I have to start again' - this even happeed a few times more, as this over-grown manchild could not accept he had to wait. Eventually I got it counted, made him pay another 20c he was short and authorized the pump to start...and after filling up he said he was coming in first thing in the morning to get me fired. I wished him luck with that, as I grinned without a care...NOT informing him that I'd handed the manager my 2 weeks notice that morning and she pleaded with me to please work the 2 weeks because they needed time to find a replacement. Why did I not tell him I was already leaving? The jerk was working night-shift driving a taxi, and he was going to waste valuable sleep coming in to the store the next day to try get a menial store clerk fired. (by the way, I was undergoing losing my home at the time, I had no job apart from this minimum wage gas-station job...I was couch surfing at my friend's place, where HIS housemate was making me feel like a huge burden....and life was very hard for me - and this jerk was trying to make it harder for NO reason. I was nice to everyone). Next evening when I came to work...the manager said the jerk came in about 8am to complain about me and threaten he'd never buy gas from us again unless I was fired. Manager told him I'd given my 2 weeks notice the day before anyway...but that we were one of the ONLY 2, 24hr gas stations in town..the other owned by same owner LOL Also she told him he better stop short-changing us or he would be have to buy his gas at the alternative 24hr gas station 10miles away LOL (I watched the security cam footage of him coming in angry to complain and then leaving 30mins later dejected) I gave him the biggest grin that night. ALso, I told some of the other taxi drivers about him and one guy said he's his own worst enemy. The jerk had a gambling problem, is divorced and is wrecking himself working to pay for his daughter's college fees, just so he can brag about what a great father he is...and also the daughter barely acknowledges him...just 'allows' him to pay her college education - He still probably hasn't figured out that being a jerk is not working for a good life; i'm not a vengeful person, but for someone to try belittle someone working a menial job, like I was at the time, is just vile behavior. I don't care how horrible your life is, you don't get to take it out on someone who is obviously not doing well. I was close to being in a deression, and only for my good friend, I would probably have felt like my life was over.
Story 1: I'd rather be half fast than half assed. More than less sure! Story 2: got to be US of A were they still use pennies cuz we got rid of them up here a while back 🍁
I'm going to say this doing that type of job I highly doubt she would have kept her job. The money it would have costed. Especially retail unless she had someone higher up to protect her azz. I don't know what company would have not let her go. Say count every penny every dollar and something's missing it's good as stolen.
If a person in a teaching position is incapable of communicating clearly about doing some research on the topic and citing it rather than just saying "need more citation" they have no business teaching.... IMO

That story about including sources was interesting. Also the feedback for OP was interesing. Do you have any sources for your opinion?
