    Finally a review! I got it on release day and when I used it. I was shocked! Like the focus was insane. It never missed at 1.4! And was so fast! The sharpness made me shocked! It made my d750 looked like it boosted to 30mp 😅. Overall this is the best lense in my arsenal. I own. 5 of the tamron set up. 35 1.4, 45 1.8, 85 1.8, 24-70 2.8 g2 and 70-200 2.8 g2. The 35 wins!

    • @senalirving
      @senalirving 3 года назад

      @matt rardin yeah I moved to the z mount so use only like two tamron via adapter lol. The 70-200 is really good though! And 45mm is okay. I have it. It's very very slow. But the focus accuracy is accurate !

    Ken, I found your channel about a year ago. You are rude, crude and right on point. Your channel is the first one I go to for photographic product reviews and over all knowledge. I am 66, retired and have a whole bunch of lenses and Nikon DSLR camera bodies. I need to donate or sell the D70 and D200..Love my D700, D810 and my new D4s I purchased used of course but in perfect condition. Just wondering how the Tamron 35mm would do with street and PJ work and just plain GP, kick around use. I have the 50mm D and 24mm D and looking to upgrade.

    Look at The newer Tamron 35-150mm it is a great lens. I have shot over 40 jobs with it now weddings and portrait sessions all outdoors on my Nikon Z6 and many in very bad conditions. It is a wonderful lens to use. Very fast AF it just never misses as good or better than my Nikon lens. Been editing 4 to 5000 images a week from it. Love the range it covers large groups of people at the 35mm end and the zoom end gets me all my waist up and headshots and more easy. The F4 at 150mm background blur bokeh is very good all I ever need with keeping the F4 good in focus range on the subject. I was using two Z6s and different lens before this but now just one Z6 and this lens give me everything I need for all my paid jobs.

Getting ready to return it to BH because all of the photos from this lens are extremely lifeless in the color department. Totally different than the color results from my Nikon primes. 24 f1.4, 50 f1.4, and my 85 f1.4. I have used it on my D4 and D850 and the results are he same. I really really would like to know something from Mr. angry. OK OK I understand this is a great wonderful sharper lens. But you did not say much about vibration control. Were most or all of these photographs you took were done by handheld or with a tripod? I would really like to know that especially when you say things are sharp. Could you refer pleased to how the photograph was taken when you talk about how sharp a photograph is. Specifically was it taken by handheld or tripod. With the vibration control, lenses can take sharper pictures handheld than lenses withithout Vibration control. So I wish you had compared the Tamron 1.8 with VC verses this 1.4 lens without VC during an extensive handheld only session.

However, I am struggling with fine tuning its AF performance (quality of focus in particular) to my D850 body. I have already got the lens replaced with no significantly better results. Using the TAP-in console and also Nikon's in body AF fine tuning feature, I managed to reach an optimal focus quality (according to FoCal software), but I am not confident that such an anniversary release lens should be so much offset from factory AF settings. Local Tamron service provider is a pathetic and Nikon service is just pointing fingers to this 3rd party lens. Any clue?

    I was saving money for Milvus 35mm 1.4. And now you are talking you are going to sell your Distagon... Does it mean that Tamron is better than Milvus? I would like to have some 35mm artistic (not boring) lens with beautiful bokeh wide open to take pics of flowers and aslo to be able to use it for landscapes and nightscapes. I assume the coma is not an issue on this Tamron? Where the coma is better: on Milvus or Tamron? Sunstarts? Dimensionality (3D effect)? What I got from your review is: beautiful bokeh, colour saturation and sharpness. Microcontrast is olalala (as far as I got from comments below) and coma, sunstars/flare, 3D-effect/dimensionality are still open... And comparison to Milvus/Distagon/Nikkor. Thanks. :-)

    I had to send back the 150-600 and the 45mm 1.8 toTamron because the focus motor acted up and the focus was not reliable from shot to shot. BTW never ever had an issue with my wonderful Sigma 85mm 1.4 70-200 2.8 and the 18-35 1.8, always in focus, little blue compared to Canon, and nothin compares to my Voigtlander 58mm of course,

    Ken, I'm a pixel peeper and look for lenses for ultra sharp B&W. Also prefer 'slightly wide' to limit post correction from messing up that sharpness. Would you rate this in your top 3 for that? FYI, AF for me most often not an issue. If not, what beats it in this focal range. Sounds like this supplanted your favorite Nikkor 35s? Perhaps it's time we create a running best of the best for you.
    Also, I think it's time we ask manufacturers to give us two options for all lenses produced, China plastic or higher end metal manufacturing aka nokton like. I for one would be willing to pay the difference. Weight for me not an issue.

    Heck, I like the Tamron 85mm f/1.8. It has become my favorite lens for portraits. It's really sharp and I love using it. But now I think I'm going to pick up the 35mm f/1.4. I don't normally shoot that wide, but I need to break out of my long lens rut.

    I own both the 35mm and 45mm 1.8 VC lenses from Tamron. I do not have the new 35mm 1.4 VC so I can't compare but I find both 1.8's to be very good primes. Sharp, fast/silent focusing and pleasing bokeh. As an added bonus: easy on the wallet! I may consider this new 35mm 1.4 after the price drops a little... Thanks for the review :)
