Thanx for posting these great pics. I attended Redwell 1970-75 and like you I only realised after leaving what a great place it had been. Although I rarely see any of my old classmates I remember them as they were in rhose special days so long gone. Golden memories and thanks once again
I left Redwell in 1971 and remember mostly with affection, the school and its teachers - most as mentioned here plus Mr Hulme, Mr Bowie, "Pop Grayson", Mr Sharpe, Mr Goodall. Also Mr Leask the Headteacher who succeeded Aitchison. With the benefit of hindsight, they were good times and I wish I could go back to those days! In 1990 when the school was getting demolished, I also took a few photos, outside & inside. It was sad to see the partly broken up Drama & Assembly Halls. Very sad that most of Shields old schools & factories / shipyards are now housing estates, but as they say "Nothing is Forever". Thanks for posting this Video... Nostalgia is great as you get older!
I was a pupil 1954-58 and lived in Ingleside so when I fell out of bed I was in the school yard. My sons and other young members of my family have nightmares as when we past it I would say "I went to Redwell School" oh not again Uncle David. Mr Grayson was my form teacher and my nightmare was Mr Cousins the French teacher and if June Dixon reads this surely she will remember trying to help me from feeling his wrath. I was bone idle and scraped through my education however it prompted me to wake up and sort myself out which I did. Happy memories of a fantastic school.
I must thankyou for this great and sad video, as I was at Redwell also, and Ginger Roberts was my teacher, at times he had a temper to match his hair lol..but he was a good teacher and I also remember Mr.Thornton a real gentleman, also a few others, but the saddest thing I read in the Shields Gazette was about my favorite teacher Mr. Power who was beaten up by these evil thugs at the school , and this lovely young teacher died :( R.I.P Mr. Power xx I wont ever forget you..
I went to Redwell from 81 to 86 and would love a copy of the pics. Also having a reunion for any year and would love to play this vid on big screen. Email me for details, would love to see you there
I guess things change over time. It was a different era in the 50’s and 60’s. There wasn’t the confusion about who we were. Boys were boys and girls were girls, but today anyone can be anyone they choose and that’s confusion.
@@IMAGESOFYESTERYEAR Exactly I attended Redwell from 1954 to 1958 and I left at 15. I know of many former pupils who flourished in the big wide world. I know of one lad who was in the lowest grade you could get and he built a successful business employing many people in South Shields.
@@maureenyare4285 Yes It was a good school for education. The teachers were good - only those who didn’t listen got nowhere in life but many did really well. I enjoyed a successful career in the Army and MOD living and moving around the world with good pensions at the end of my working life.
I don't know how this happened but no I haven't had a sex change my wife Maureen didn't go to Redwell but David Yare did but as an Octogenarian please accept my apology for using her account.

Redwell comprehensive was a terrible school to be honest yet it was still a really enjoyable video to see after all these years. Thanks
