'Phillips head' yeah it's an M10~ bolt with glue around it bro. An M10 depending on grade has a yield strength of 2.3-7.2 tonnes range and very likely is in the upper end of that. He can afford to do all of the nice things he wants in life, in this day and age where everyone is struggling- both in his native country and worldwide. Tuner shops in Japan are dying because of the economy. Nakai is still here because he's found a niche and is running with it.

Pretty clear to see how many people have zero clue of car building, especially a race car inspired build.. To call the bonding agent silicone is bad, but that car builder guy says a caulk gun.... All those cheap tube frame guns hold all kinds of sealing tubes.. Most bonding glues are stronger than welding now.. most multi million cars are carbon fibre that's bonded together... sorry is that silicone...
The silicon glue that he's using are the replacement for rivets in my work place, the panels of the Bullet trains in japan are built with this using this SIKAFLEX silicon from Germany. I worked at Daimler transit division here in Canada.
IMO, RWBs are literally Porsche's GT race cars-inspired builds that you could drive on streets coz they are plenty of RWBs that has been literally used on circuits even Nakai-san himself (Rotana RWB if I'm not mistaken), heck, there is a time attack RWBs in Japan too!! Even in the Philippines, there is a Time Attack Spec RWB!! The Aero kit itself is functional AF!! It's basically the closest thing you could be able to get a 935 or any GT race cars of Porsche you could ever get!! It deserves its own respect despite the hate it gets from social media clouts.
If people think this is bad they should check out the finale of Mat Armstrong's videos of the Mansory Rolls Royce rebuild and see what they're doing at Mansory. If anyone has anything to say about RWB then the same should definitely be said about Mansory, even if it's "higher quality" it's still a guy going to town with silicone lol
It has become a lot more common place now with composite materials in super/hyper cars where the body panels are held on by panel bond. Look at any of Tavarish's builds on his McLaren. They couldn't believe the panels were just on with panel bond. It is different than silicone. But it is glue none the less.
Calling it glue is no different in saying silicone. While they are different materials people keep making incorrect assumptions from using the wrong name. Most common are usually PU adhesives which are immensely strong. And yes while technically glue, people make an assumption of very basic glue with little bonding ability. Ive done videos for customers on bonding and sealing where they ask why am i using silicone because they see a plastic tube in a sealing gun. Takes forever to explain its not silicone, nor the price of silicone, good PU adhesive is about 10x the price of silicone. @atyoursix5520
I’ve seen a video in the past of a RUclipsr that had rwb build his porsche, apart of the cost is you don’t send your car to nakai. He flys to you and builds the car in your garage or wherever you keep it. You’re allowed to film him and have people come watch while he works. Also, if I remember correctly, you pretty much spec out your own build. They have different kits and such, last time I looked, and they build them. Send everything to you and nakai flys out and gets to work. They can even paint the whole car if you want. This was like 2 years ago when I checked btw
They got a sponsor from playboy for this shit, and honestly they don't look too bad considering back in the day this was exactly what people did to their cars. The entire point was to accentuate the body lines and even exaggerate it. In the 80s this was done by some Porsche designers. RWB's are nicely done imho, the problem is y'all hop on trends to diss something and then a few years later you'll come back to it. HOWEVER, yeah, his caulking shit is bad. If you're going to do your passion, do it with quality. Doesn't matter who's receiving it, they're paying you to get the product.
As a panel beater being in the industry for 8 years, the craftsmanship is absolutely abysmal by any standards. All well and good when it’s finished and looks a million bucks, but deep down lying behind the surface is what we call a can of worms. Plenty of cars can appear “clean” but have skeletons hiding. Respect to the man for what he has accomplished, just my opinion
If anyone here watches Mat Armstrong you know Manson also just glues on vents and carbon pieces. Using the same materials. May calls it Manson glue too.
Most of the cars are panel bonded together, how is it any different for the wide body kit? The tow hook was bad though. I think he should be using grade 8 button head bolts though.
I think that Akira Naka doesn't really give a shit about the way he builds customer cars. I can almost guarantee you he isnt putting nearly as much as effort and time compared to his actual race track ready rwb cars 😂
1. rwb is for racing. Nakai started his shop modifying porsches for form and function on the track. It was never meant to be a "show car". Looking at RWB with show car standards is the wrong perspective. 2. the price of porsches are not hundreds of thousands, they've always been porsches from the 80s, 90s, and maybe early 2000s. They're *usually* not mint or collectors porsches. 3. 9 times out of 10, these guys swap in a built engine or build the stock motor. 4. THE BUILD QUALITY. Everyone likes to say that the build quality is shit, but fail to mention how Nakai is doing all of this body work by hand, essentially eyeballing it, and the end result is symmetrical on both sides. That's decades of skill. Especially at the speed he builds a RWB. 5. Everyone saying RWB is more artistic really doesn't understand what RWB actually is. RWB got popular almost 10 years ago now thanks to guys like Krispy media and Woyshnis for videoing the build process. I think that's when people really started to say it's art. It's a pretty car definitely. Dudes are paying astronomical amounts of money to have nakai build these cars and he's been building them for much longer than most of us have been alive honestly. TLDR; The product is the product. If you want gods work then go commission a Singer Porsche to be built (they're in the millions of dollars for one car and there's at least a 4 year wait list), I'm sure you'll still find something to complain about.
He uses caulk because this is a drifting culture - they are meant to quick fix and be back on the track in hours. dude has lap records and is a major component of race culture.
i feel like peple like the feeling of the car basically being a DIY project built in a garage like back in the days type of vibe and then the value it adds would be the cherry on top
I lived in Japan for 3 years from 06 to mend of 09. I can say when I first went to shops for work, they legit do full builds in summer clothes and flip flops. Not all but a lot of them do. Honestly it’s all the older guys that do this. The younger guys wear nice uniforms, even at the gas stations in Japan.
People need to understand he is not building cars. He's I making art. The car is just a medium to him. What he is doing is strictly aesthetic. How the car performs or whether or not it is ruined matters not. A car comes into his shop; a work of art comes out.
@@johnstevenson3369but it's not performance aero. It probably makes the car slower and less stable at top speed. Porsche designed the aerodynamics to be great around a track from factory, and he just goes, "hey, this will look cool"
nah, they should be track cars since thats what they used to be (and what their site literally advertises), best example is his own, the black and gold, thats tracked not sat on a stage
I don't see a 10mm but I do see welds to a plate and something larger like 12mm bolts each side. Flat top with the edge flange- Oem style porsche fastener. They silicone the car in the video for the photo shoot. The actual tow hook was bolted on later in a totally different spot.
How do you know it's silicone ?? Are you aware that we have many many bonding agents in the car building world ? Saying it's silicone shows how silly people are in 2024.. and they are all young..
And that is the problem my friend... so if everyone else says something stupid then you are happy to agree with them ?? Is that not very foolish ? You could get yourself in trouble by agreeing with fools buddy.. There is multiple tubes of bonding solution we use for car body kits and more. Suggesting its silicone like this video guy shows their complete lack of vehicle knowledge, yet so many people believe him ? It shows he is lacking in knowledge of bodywork repairs and cars in general.@Dark.Wing.Venom.
@@evelghostrider dont think its that serious man. Silicone is a general term because Akira could have used like one of 5 different sealants or bonding agents. If someone didn't know what was being used then saying silicone is a fine broad term, just as "sealant" is.
Nevermind the kits (beauty is subjective). I’ve seen his builds up close when he visited the country. Was surprised on the shortcuts in rustproofing the fender cuts. I wonder how its holding up on his earlier builds in terms of rusting on the cuts itself.
I’m not a big fan of RWB, but my first experience was 2013. No one even bothered to stop - other than me and a couple of other people. So it is crazy to see the hate/fame
The RWB cars aren’t sent to Japan.. he supposedly flies out to wherever the car is and does the work there. As for chicken wire, that’s how all Japan body kits were done in the 90’s. Early Lancer Evo used the same mesh but had screw down points.
RWB's originated for the Track so no they are not going to use custom-formed metal body panels, because track cars are designed with parts that are easily replaceable. Part of the charm of RWB's is owners being present and watching your car get built by nakai. This is not some body shop that you give you car in and like 6 months or year you hope to get it back.
i was just thinking of Singer while reading through these comments from people defending RWB. Singer cars are actual works of art, akin to the Mona Lisa. RWB cars are like Jackson Pollocks paint splatters in comparison.
Bolting a tow hook to the bumper would also be incorrect because it needs to be bolted directly to the frame and protrude through a hole in the bumper.
you can see holes in the tow hook when he applies the silicone, im sure he is only using rtv to be sure no moisture gets in after drilling and mounting
he simply didn't like the wheel base of the car, and wanted to make it more stable by widening it. So he used his design background to fab a kit, and put it together himself. People like the way it looks so they ask him to do it. The performance gain is stability. His customers normally paint the car before the kit is assembled, and thats why they all look mint.
Drew I love ya but you're blind you can literally see the grade marking on the bolt head at 6:20. As far as chicken wire and a nonmetal widebody is concerned, there's different ways you can look at it. Is it as beautiful and proper as custom made frames and molded extensions of the body that are seamless and perfect? No, it's not. but it is something that's easier to fix or replace. If you actually use the car and mess up your metal widebody or a custom made grille you're gonna pay out the ass for a new one and to have it fixed or "fixed". I work in autobody and I've seen some real examples of people that had no right to mess with bondo, a repair on a car like that could easily become a nightmare in the wrong hands. At least with a bolt-on flare, if it becomes damaged you can take it off and fix it or order a new one. I would have to imagine it would cost less when compared with a fix on a metal widebody. Even if the damage on the metal widebody is really small you still have to disassemble and mask and paint the whole panel you can't just spot it in, and you might have to blend the color on neighboring panels or parts. Personally, as somebody who likes to actually drive my cars, I would rather take the chicken wire and fiberglass. The materials aren't as special but they're more available and less costly.
There used to be a ruby star RWB 964 here in Pittsburgh. That car was BEAUTIFUL. Owner sold it, moved to California, and then had another RWB built that isn’t nearly as nice imo.
He's using aviation grade sealant, if it won't fly off of a jet at speeds far greater than any car then the wide body won't either. The tow hook is an issue, that's crazy.
i think RWBs nowadays are for people who collect cars and let them sit to up their value. as far as i understood, Nakai san comes from street and semi pro racing, so he wanted to imitate the roughness (Rauh = rough) that comes with motorsport back in the 80s, where pit crews hack off and drill parts on the fly to get the car back on the track again. you are right though, his bodykits wont last in harsh weather or daily use for sure. he probably realized all of his modern customers wont ever race these cars, so he doesnt see the point in going the extra mile to make stuff practical or functional. i wouldnt necessarily race my RWB either, after dropping 150k in this economy 😅 also, as far as i heard, he hand builds every single one of his kits. thats why theres a massive waiting list. each build is unique in some way or another. no kit is the same. so customers have that going for them too on top of having it assembled by a guy thats cool as a cucumber 😂
I think its a customer thing. On the RWB website there is a page where it talks about the building process and first thing that it says is the “customer figures out what build he/she likes to do” I'm sure if someone wanted a track car Nakai would build it differently but all these people seem to want only show cars.

'Phillips head' yeah it's an M10~ bolt with glue around it bro. An M10 depending on grade has a yield strength of 2.3-7.2 tonnes range and very likely is in the upper end of that.
TLDR: You could tow a car with a single M10 bolt. Not that you should, but you could. There will be 2nd bolt, making that entire hook able to hang the car if the subframe is strong enough.

Akira Nakai isn't the one 'destroying porsches', he's just capitalising on a whole bunch of hype that people have for some reason generated around him and I don't blame him. He can afford to do all of the nice things he wants in life, in this day and age where everyone is struggling- both in his native country and worldwide. Tuner shops in Japan are dying because of the economy. Nakai is still here because he's found a niche and is running with it.
No German native speaker would say “Rauh Welt”. The correct phrase would be “[Die] Rauhe Welt” ([the] rough world). The word “Begriff” behind it means “term” and makes no sense at all in this context.

I love a bunch of amazon builders talking crap
Pretty clear to see how many people have zero clue of car building, especially a race car inspired build..
To call the bonding agent silicone is bad, but that car builder guy says a caulk gun....
All those cheap tube frame guns hold all kinds of sealing tubes..
Most bonding glues are stronger than welding now.. most multi million cars are carbon fibre that's bonded together... sorry is that silicone...
The excessive glue doesn’t bug me since that is how Mansory also attaches everything to their Rolls Royces.
The silicon glue that he's using are the replacement for rivets in my work place, the panels of the Bullet trains in japan are built with this using this SIKAFLEX silicon from Germany. I worked at Daimler transit division here in Canada.
I used to work with a transmission rebuilder, he was like this too... but he could tear down a transmission so fast. 😮
11:17 so if he’s not doing anything wrong and these clients of his aren’t complaining why are you and anyone else? But hey your show go off droopykock
These cars are built for race car look... not full luxury my friend. Massive difference people can't seem to grasp. .
Drew has bagged on the Mansory cars plenty of times

I'd expect an "art oriented" widebody kit to fall under the "race inspired cosmetic enhancemens" category, but what do I know?
No man is going to touch my porsche with his caulk
I think that Akira Naka doesn't really give a shit about the way he builds customer cars. I can almost guarantee you he isnt putting nearly as much as effort and time compared to his actual race track ready rwb cars 😂
In the skit with the guy checking his tow hook you can clearly see the silicone in the top of it
Not sure about their quality, but I had a chance to see a RWB in real life and damn, that was the most gorgeous Porsche I’ve ever seen
1. rwb is for racing.
I think this is art to him and that's his attitude. He's an artist.
I can take a dump on a plate and display it and call that art
He uses caulk because this is a drifting culture - they are meant to quick fix and be back on the track in hours. dude has lap records and is a major component of race culture.
I’m an auto body tech. If my boss caught me using some of these techniques on a car, I’d get fired. They look amazing but, I’m not sold on the quality
He's an Artist, period. Your paying for "one off" Art pieces.
If you're expecting nakai-san to make a clean cut on a porsche, he would've named the brand Smooth-ahh World.
i feel like peple like the feeling of the car basically being a DIY project built in a garage like back in the days type of vibe and then the value it adds would be the cherry on top
No he’s not, his cars work fine.

Damn, gotta be the first time drew let us down. Says he wont slander him as he literally slanders him 😂😂
The RWB cars aren’t sent to Japan.. he supposedly flies out to wherever the car is and does the work there.
As for chicken wire, that’s how all Japan body kits were done in the 90’s. Early Lancer Evo used the same mesh but had screw down points.
RWB and Mansory have similar build quality, both rely on glue and tape to keep it together

I think prices on stock form would sky rocket on the market once Akira finishes almost all of them
Bolting a tow hook to the bumper would also be incorrect because it needs to be bolted directly to the frame and protrude through a hole in the bumper.
you can see holes in the tow hook when he applies the silicone, im sure he is only using rtv to be sure no moisture gets in after drilling and mounting
he simply didn't like the wheel base of the car, and wanted to make it more stable by widening it.
RWB, raggidy wide body.
Are the widebody kits at least bespoke?
I think its a customer thing. On the RWB website there is a page where it talks about the building process and first thing that it says is the “customer figures out what build he/she likes to do” I'm sure if someone wanted a track car Nakai would build it differently but all these people seem to want only show cars.
