Can we talk about how it feels that Nintendo has largely tried to listen to fans this generation?
Breath of the Wild is a reaction to Skyward Sword feedback.
Super Mario Party and Mario Party Superstars is a reaction to the negative feedback of Mario Party 9 & 10.
Three Houses is a reaction towards the negative feedback on Fates.
Mario Wonder is a reaction to the staleness of New Super Mario.
Thousand Year Door feels like a reaction to fan outcry over the recent games.
I feel there are more examples, but you get the idea.
The drought during Wii U taught Nintendo to release a strong game almost every quarter to maintain momentum.
I just feel like Nintendo is trying to listen to and respond to fan feedback. Which, I think is key to their success this generation. That’s just my take.

I don't disagree but this isn't really something that is exclusive to the Switch; this happens so often that it's more of an anomaly when it doesn't happen. Also all of this is pretty subjective except for Breath of the Wild which they made a very clear statement to break series conventions it may not actually be that big of a difference for some people and a lot of it is probably more incidental than intentional.

Nintendo during the Switch era is successful but something about them was lost once Iwata passed away and Reggie left

I feel like PS and Xbox are experiencing the same problem as nintendo did with the WiiU. They werent prepared for the hardware they're developing for, they went right into the generation without a plan forward and probably didnt consider how detailed and big in scope the worlds would be, how time consuming making all these nuance face and movements animations would be and overall how big the teams got, making it harder to coordinate and prohibitely expensive ganes overall would get.
Nintendo made the right call in the wii era, staying one or one and a half generations behind for hardware to get cheaper while also making games focusing on art style and gameplay instead of the amount of triangles, the way blades of grass should move or how many baskets and hay should be on any given scene.
I still believe that theres a place for these hyper realistic games and someone has to push forward, no denying that, but i feel we can all agree that games are too realistic, too big and too expensive for their own good, that just led to companies needing to implement predatory practices to make a profit while also turning the audience on said companies.
Keeping games cheap makes developers work regular hours, have stable jobs, Nintendo stays mostly out of predatory practices while also having a MOSTLY good image (im talking about their ninjas) towards its users.
I really hope nintendo keeps staying behind the competition and the next console stays in good health for 10 years, I don't care at all about realistic graphics if it comes with all those drawbacks i listed before.

As a longtime owner of Sony consoles, I like the idea of timed exclusives: reward console owners with first dibs on your game but then eventually release the game onto other consoles. Nintendo doesn't really need to do this because many gamers will buy their console plus one of the others (or upgrade their PC) each generation. Given the quality of their games and the hardware being so intertwined with the games, though, I see no reason for Nintendo to release content for other platforms, save for the occasional mobile game.
Also, laying off devs and dismantling countless studios has been a trainwreck. Nintendo succeeds, in part, because they value their employees and dev teams.

The problem aren't PS4 and Xbox One. The problem is that 9th gen was POINTLESS.
If you want a gaming PC get a PC to play 120fps 4K etc. PS4 to this date has enough processing power for any developer that doesn't need to make you see the porus and nose hair of your first person character model. Most indies and smaller titles have enough power. The magical SSD was a lie and a PS4 could run Rift Apart at mid graphics 1080p
Why they keep the 8th gen alive? Because it's still usable and unless you're a graphics SNOB. Gaming REALISM peaked in 8th gen. RED DEAD REDEMPTION 2 is a PS4 and XB One game. 9th gen just exists to COMPETE against PCs.

Funny that you mention the whole FTC situation between Sony and Microsoft, because if I remember correctly, I'm pretty sure one of the judges straight up told Sony to "be more like Nintendo, and make more games" or something along those lines. The fact that Microsoft and Sony have to buy companies to gain more IPs is honestly kinda sad, because both companies own a bunch of franchises that they just don't want to continue for some reason. They could easily have smaller teams work on smaller budget titles, but they keep laying off good employees, and keeping the money that should go towards game development into the CEOs' pockets. Like sure, Nintendo also has a few dormant IPs, but at least they still put out a good handful of FIRST PARTY games yearly.
I don't want it to happen, but if things don't change for either company, I'm pretty sure both Sony and Microsoft will drop out of the console business within the next 10 years.

With what little there is on either Xbox or PS5, i don't even know if i still want one anymore. It doesn't even matter if everything comes out on all platforms anyway or eventually port to PC. This is why i still like Nintendo consoles, because they have things these other consoles don't, like their own weird gimmicks, brand recognition with their games and characters, being able to keep things "fun" which is an important key factor, being able to give players what they like, good strategy when to release most of their games every year. I can go on and on, but Nintendo really knows how to keep their stuff together, even they have their poor decisions sometimes.

Nintendo has a deep bench of development studios/subsidiaries to make 1st-party games: their own EPD (packed w/developer vets like Tezuka and Aonuma), HAL Labs, Retro Studios, Monolith Soft, Intelligent Systems.
Don't forget: during the GAMECUBE era, SSB Melee was able to expand their fighting game roster from 12 (SSB 64) to 26...w/o any 3rd-party characters (they started to appear w/Brawl). That is how extensive Nintendo's IP pool is.

It would help them all greatly if they follow Nintendo's example and not feel the need to push the system to it's limits with every game. Change up the art style, use graphics that get the job done but allow developers to focus on ironing out the gameplay which should be priority one. Also I'll keep saying this their new consoles should never have been released in 2020, the ps4 was still doing well and I think even Xbox was too, if they had just coasted along like Nintendo did there's a good chance all of these problems would not be an issue now.

being out for 3 years longer helped LOL porting most games from the wii u helped, play station and xbox did have exclusives this generation, i think since nintendo has nurtured its properties for forty years and been able to maintain the quality of those titles while innovating is insane and is the key because everyone knows who mario is, zelda, pokemon, and now animal crossing too, they've made it known to everyone people who don't play video games, most people who own a switch probably don't actively play it, they either got it the first year it came out which is a big chunk, got it when animal crossing came out another big chunk, and is either a child that got it for christmas one year who only uses it for fortnite LOL and that's the thing we're the enthusiasts making and watching videos about this stuff but most people really are casual and don't think too much about it and that's where the numbers come from because even on nintendo's biggest trailers for zelda and mario the numbers don't match switch ownership

The problem with xbox and ps were they focused on power but we've hit the point of deminishing returns.
Games are so expensive to produce. So almost every game has been cross gen, remakes/remasters, and sequals. Exclusives feel like dlc content for the previous game because they play the same.
The consoles are super powerful but look at the xbox series s vs x comparisons. Most games look the exact same. The series x will have a few extra blades of grass. Background stuff you'll never notice when playing. Otherwise they look the same.
The only difference between this gen and last gen are load times and frame rates. All that extra power and all they could do is double the frame rate.
Last gen was lackluster this gen is a waste of time. Only things worth while ate Nintendo's ips and gamepass, but thats about to go up in price to become not woth it.

What gets me going back to the Switch so much isn't just its newer games, but the NSO library. It started out kinda small, but now there are a LOT of classic games you can play for multiple consoles. Playstation does have its classic games option, but it's much more limited and costs over $100 more a year, because they want to rope in a bunch of other crap that you may or may not be interested in. For example, I don't really play online, so I don't need online multiplayer; I also don't need the Game Catalog, Ubisoft+ Classics, cloud streaming, etc... However, I have to get all of those, even if all I want is the Classics Catalog (which only has a little over 20 games in it right now, according to the search I did on their own website). $160/yr just for that? No thanks. I still have most of my old Playstation games, and my PS3. I'll play them through that. I'm kinda out of luck for PS2 games, but thems' the breaks.

Would've been more successful, but definitely not outselling 3ds.) And the wii wouldn't have sold so much and been so successful. Also, I don't know who brainwashed everyone into thinking that exclusives don't matter, but they do. If you could play nintendo games on xbox or playstation, would you really bother buying a nintendo console? Let's be real here. They absolutely matter. So the talk of exclusives is, in my opinion, mostly true. But only because of the current pricing for xbox and playstation. There is an immense paywall when it comes to acquiring these consoles, and playstation had a hard time getting it out to customers. The Switch is an easy to obtain console with welcoming features. It may not be as powerful, but it delivers on fun games, which is also something that xbox and ps are currently lacking. Now, there is definitely more money to be made on non-exclusive games as it is able to reach more customers. But exclusives also help sell consoles. Now, Nintendo actually needs to start spreading to both mobile and PC as they are the real competitors in the gaming market, mobile especially. Hoyoverse and others have proven that high grade games can be sold on smart phones and make tons of money and havd thus overtaken the handheld market, which used to be exclusively Nintendo's territory. Nintendo needs to make a move to stand toe to toe to pc and mobile, not xbox and ps.

Hot take here- I don't think the console war is going to be a thing anymore. Certainly Microsoft want to sell consoles but it's always been the case that games are the money makers. Getting them to multiple platforms where they can charge the base price + expansions + DLC or even push the live service thing is clearly where they see the $. Drive sales with a few exclusives at the start of a console cycle but gravitate towards multi-platform releases towards the end.
All the while pushing Game Pass which is guaranteed money coming in regularly appeasing the shareholders. Sure they're putting some crazy good games on there soon but that's just to drive subs. When they've hit peak they'll increase the price a little and before you know it you've got a legion of fans who wouldn't necessarily buy or even try certain games on the regular paying to do so on the regular.
It's looks like a risk sure, but as you said Xbox is dead last this time around. Makes sense to try something new and I'm sure they know what they're doing.

Where did they get the idea exclusives don’t matter? There is actually an answer. Sony makes 50 percent of their money from ten games. None of which they made so it’s all profit. GTA, Fortnight, FIFA, etc. give them far more money through 3rd party fees than any games they can hope to make themselves. This also tells us why they are chasing games as a service. Problem is it will only continue if PS5 remains dominant (with people who play these 10 games.) They could sit back and collect from 3rd parties or invest hundreds of millions in a single player exclusive. They’ve shown what they hope the future holds.

I see this a lot but I do disagree. Exclusive games boosts the value of a console which in turn boosts console sales which in turn creates competition which in turn creates options for consumers and prevents any one company from becoming a monopoly.

    • @GAHAHAHH
      @GAHAHAHH Месяц назад +1

@@ShesezTheNews It's an artificial value though, the console is only perceived to be more valuable because exclusivity lowered the value of all other consoles. You have phrased the question backwards which skews your answer by asking "what exclusives does it have?" you have already limited yourself to the idea that other consoles need to be incapable of running a game for the console in question to have value.
For the record more sales actually decreases competition, I seriously have no idea what you are on about with this? It's an intrinsic fact that competition requires resources in this case the number of consoles being bought to be finite scarce and mutually exclusive, in other words if everyone is buying every console there is no reason to compete.
Also Copyright law is literally described as a legal monopoly by those advocating for it. So something like exclusivity has all the problems that come with monopolies and is really just an excuse to not compete on the fronts that actually matter like features, price and hardware. You are literally arguing in favour of a monopoly/oligopoly while claiming that it's somehow preventing that exact thing.
You are weirdly right in a way it is "pro consumer" because they don't want people to act for themselves or within their on best interests what they want is people to be mindless "consumers" who buy more than what they need and endlessly consume products as if everything is supposed to be disposable and replaced regularly. But when most people say "anti-consumer" they aren't talking about freeing people from the burdens of consumerism what they really mean doing something that harms the very people who are using what they are selling.
Things like HDCP don't fulfil their intended function but they do act as a toll on hardware manufacturers and I am sure that extra expense is being passed onto the consumer. They have somehow convinced people to pay for shackles on their freedoms and for reasons I don't understand they have succeeded in convincing people to like these restrictions. This goes both ways as well if you are a game developer even if you put in all the effort needed to port your game to all consoles it's still up to the console manufacturer to decide if it gets "approved", they may have low standards with a bunch of shovel-ware and scams getting approved but it is still only "approved" content that sees anything better than intentional destruction.
Remember their goal with copyright is not to "protect artists" their goal is the destruction of all culture they can't control.

Shesez, no. I respect you and love your content, but everything you said imho is just plain wrong.
As an owner of PC, Switch and PS2, in my opinion what you are doing right now is just gatekeeping. Or, even worse, encouraging rivalries and wars between players.
Exclusives are a legalized form of blackmail where companies try to force people to purchase expensive systems they don't need just... to play a game? Multiple games? Games they will NOT have time to play anyway, and sometimes even room in their houses to put the actual consoles? You really want people to bend over to the big company's will and buy every console the market tries to shove down their throats?
It probably works on you americans, since you're already used to paying insane amount of money for things that shouldn't be paid (like healthcare or universities) and your economic system supports the big corporations rather than the consumers, but I can assure you that the vast majority of normal people will AT MOST have a PC and a console, and their PC will not even be a gaming one, because they won't have time to game on it, or the interest in it.
"Business perspective" my ass, why do you think Square Enix dropped that? Because they saw the numbers and realized you sell MORE GAMES if you allow more people to play them.
Seriously, look at me: do you REALLY think people will willingly buy a second console just because a game is an exclusive?
No, *they will not play it* and wait, exactly as people has been doing for the PC version of Bloodborne.
You, console player, are underestimating the patience of gamers, especially the PC gamers.
I have no intention of buying any other game system, I don't have space in my house for it nor the time to play it, and I already have a truckload of a backlog to play.

Good point. I think exclusives have their place and does help with a more competitive market though. Entertainment is not something we have to have and no one is forcing us to buy it so IP becomes important. I believe the platform holders have a right to make IP but locking third party as exclusives I disagree with. Edit: I also only own a Switch and see no reason to buy the other platforms.

I used to be in favour of "exclusives" because I thought it was important for a console to have an identity but now I realise there is no reason that exclusivity is required for that.
I still think the Switch would have sold exceedingly well even without exclusives because it's cheap and it's portable and people seem to want those two things.
Things like HDCP don't fulfil their intended function but they do act as a toll on hardware manufacturers and I am sure that extra expense is being passed onto the consumer. It's weird how that works the "half generation" really messed with things and I hope we don't see something like that happen again. However I don't think it's likely since 8k is really impractically large and troublesome to develop for so that only leaves higher frame rates which developers and marketers have successfully gaslighted people into not caring about so it would be really hard to pull a 180 on that.
