I'd love to learn why you see 'Hybrids' as being the better choice for the environment than 'EVs'. Is it related to the mining practices around the rare metals?

As a Chinese who used to work in two China IT companies, I can confidently tell you the concept of QC is non-existent in that fucked-up cuntry.

@@darrenneven8533 I bought a a Chinese lab power supply. Don't get me wrong it works exactly as advertised, which of coarse means they didn't advertise any over current protection either. That's a lretty standard feature on that type of equipment to the point where you wouldn't think to you'd need to look for it. To be clear your averafe purpose built chargers don't have much in the way of current protection either because they factor in the impedences of the device you are charging, but a general purpose power supply will just dump as much current as the circuit will let it, detonating whatever you power it up with, or maube causing a fire.
I heard a firefighter say that he has seen an EV dunked in water for 30 days and it caught fire two more times after it was submerged. Those fires are incredibly dangerous.
evs are usually left to burn out themselves to charred metal when they catch fire, it takes too much water to put lithium fires out

I have to say I had a pretty bad crash a few years ago in a Toyota Aygo and the airbags did not deploy either, but the assessor told me the car worked exactly like intended... the frame and some parts took most of the impact it almost acted like a crush core in the landing legs of a falcon 9... and he also told me the car knew the injuries from the airbag would have been greater than the injuries if it didnt deploy (the car has sensors to determine if the airbag should deploy in a fraction of a second) and it was actually right... I had minor bruises where the seat belt held me in place and my neck hurt a little but I was fine, same for the passenger... but the car looked even worse than the car shown here...
I dont want to defend against the point you are trying to make here in general, but to be fair I dont think this airbag in the video malfunctioned... Would be interesting to see what injuries the passengers suffered...
I think this is a lot of clickbait. Cars sometimes burn. Fossil cars burns 4-5 times more often, adjusted to the number of ev's in the car fleet. We also know that when an ev is burning it usually didn't start in the battery. BYD has probably sold four million electric cars by now, the number that has gone up in flames are probably far less than any fossil cars in comparison.
You will never know because the Chinese government hides the real statistics
Glad you are spreading awareness about this, its wild how fragile blade batteries can be

Possibly stupid question, but does BYD and others like Xpeng have its own production line for china/other countries?
There are plenty of BYD and Xpeng cars sold here in Norway, and it doesn't seem like they are catching fire here? (we also have a lot of electric BYD busses)
I would imagine there's SOME parts in your market for those cars that are manufactured in Mexico, but I also think a lot of why you aren't hearing about defects in EVs is because the stories are just being buried.
@@erinlikesacornishpasty4703 There are some very EV negative sites here that would gobble up chinese EV's burning at a higher rate, also insurance statistics are more or less publicly available here, so if chinese EV's actually caught on fire more often they would be much more expensive to insure (actually teslas crash way more often than the average here and are more expensive to insure)
We don't even know if the chinese EVs catch fire more than other EV's because we can never trust the numbers we get. Thats why it feels so risky to buy these cars in the first place. You cannot trust that the car is safe or that the company is as strong as they claim. The transparancy is needed, and if china doesn't give us that they will burn the western market for a long time if the rip us off. There is also too few chinese EVs in Norway and Europe to get any numbers on reliability. And scepticism is inreasing due to the war. But I guess time will tell
2:59: The BYD Haunted --- the ultimate halloween horror of bad cars. Welcome to BYD --- the EV land of gosts, goblins, shrieks, blood-curdling screams, and demonic laughter. The footage of that explosion would be preceding that evil laughter at the end of the song. For when you're in an EV, you're fighting for your life inside a killer thriller tonight.
Don't know what to make of this video. You say that BYD's Blade battery is unsafe. Yet Tesla are wanting it for their new cars. Toyota one of the safest car brands on the road already have a partnership with BYD to supply their EV with this battery. The new Kia EVs are also being built with this battery this year. So why if so unsafe are big brands wanting this battery for their cars?
I would love to know why, in your opinion, Hybrids are better than EV's for the environment
The fuel for electric car in a vast majority of the world is coal and gas that's why
Because he‘s a bit stupid
EVs need to get charged, it gets charged from the local power supply, local power supplies are more likely to be coal powered. You basically just passed the ball to another guy and bragged that you cut-off carbon pollution. EVs are only eco-friendly in countries where nuclear or renewable power plants are dominant. Hybrid lowers carbon pollution by using a cleaner (but weaker) secondary fuel.
@@BigOlRub so switch to renewables. Is that too hard to grasp
I am environmental engineer with 20+ years experience and I am against electric vehicles.
There is nothing about green technologies, this is just creation of another issue.
So? People want cheap cars. BYD delivers cheap cars.
It seems that these fires all start inside car or in the front of car. Not from batteries.
Id like to try a BYD.
Where can I get one, Harbor Freight?
Sure, just look for the Harbor Freight that's on fire.
The freight company I formerly worked for started switching from propane forklifts to electric, and I would have to assume they got a bulk deal on BYD, as they're running 40 of them now. From the moment I rode one for the first time I hated it. No torque, shoddy welds, and I wouldn't say it was common but on 5 separate lifts the connecting rods for one of the rear wheels that holds the wheel hub to the axle snapped and the wheel came off, hydraulic lines rattle themselves loose constantly, they don't have the same fork movement or range of motion other lifts have, and the hydraulics are MUCH weaker compared to our old Hyster Yales. The chargers are always throwing errors requiring you to unplug them several times to get them to charge, and pieces of the plastic they mold the charge plug with cracks and sometimes break off in the port, forcing you to either dig it out with a fine edged/narrow tool or get someone who can. The batteries die exceptionally fast in cold weather, and sometimes the chargers wont even work when it's too cold. None have ever caught fire thankfully but on a select few you could smell wires burning, which were promptly (and by that I mean I didn't see them for several months after reporting it) fixed. I shuddered a bit reading the title after knowing how their industrial EVs were, I wouldn't ever imagine owning a consumer model anything by them.
China aside. I live in Poland, and they want us to buy EVs - period. Even though 80% of our electricity is made out of fossil fuels/coal.
Even though Polish citizen makes around 36K PLN, the cheapest EV available on polish soil is (I believe) Dacia Spring - which costs (strats from) 106K PLN. So you'd have to somehow save 3 years worth of income, without spending a penny, and still drive a car that is polluting (80% of electricity out of coal etc.), and I'd be scared parking it at my place - not to mention drive it.
Another thing - pollution wise - my car actually caught on fire once in its lifetime. Aaaaaaand... I AM STILL DRIVING IT!
It needed new throttle body, set of injectors and respray of the bonnet/hood. All combined came up to about 5% of cars value.
EV catching on fire? 1. You might not escape it, 2. It's gone completely. 3. It pollutes a s**t ton of - I am sure - very HEALTHY gas into the atmosphere.
Don't get me wrong - I'm all in on being environment friendly - but not at such risk and cost.
Why not going hybrid or hydrogen?
AND WHEN WILL YOU BAN PRIVATE JETS for Tay Tay and other millionaires?
This is absolutely crazy. Those cars are death traps. I have a hard time understanding how anyone could want to drive one.
Because any mention of these fires is quickly censored within China, these videos are the ones getting sent outside of China.

I believe it was the Wall Street Journal recently that tore down a byd Han to find that there is no floorboard in it. You sit right on top of the battery pack as a means of saving costs during construction. Imagine what would happen if that battery caught fire and then there's nothing between you and it but a sheet of the battery's own top layer? At least in the Tesla Model 3 there's a floorboard between you and the batteries. Another thing to remember is when Tesla first debuted in China and all these people showed up at their car stands at shows complaining about major issues with the cars only to have them be found out to be paid actors?

BYD: Be Your Death
I've never understood why you need to have an electric car that races to 100 in 3 seconds for the streets. The draw load on the battery for such acceleration is a factor in what causes malfunction and degradation.
about the white crashed car: no airbags will deploy if the car drives slow or is stationary. the airbags deployment speed has to be 15 to 25 mph, depends on the brand...

According to data, thermal engine cars are many times more likely to burst into flames than EVs (at least those not made in China by BYD), and their flames are often just as big and deadly.
The fact you don't hear about it is because it would be too "common news" because this happens every day hundreds of times, so journalists don't talk about it. The reason why you hear a lot about EVs bursting into flames, is because you just need to look at who controls the media: lobbyists. And who are the lobbyists? Oil companies, as well as traditional thermal car companies like GM. They have every reason in the book to spread bad news on EVs. So of course they would make sensational news out of 1 or 2 Tesla's catching fire, but they will never mention the 100 other thermal cars that combusted before those 2 Tesla's did.
If you are looking for sources, because I can't seem to share links on youtube for some reason, I can only tell you to look for them on Google online with "are EVs more liekly to burn?". On a website called the Car Expert UK, they come up with numbers from an american car insurance that counted 25 combustions of EVs for 100,000 units sold, compared to over 1,500 for 100,000 units sold for thermal engine cars. Shouldn't the Chinese FD be using Class D (Dry Powder) Fire Extinguishers for lithium battery fires? What is that they are using?
Basically useless, battery fires are self contained (they contain both the fuel and oxidizer) and the cells are shielded against any extinguisher compounds. Class D is useful for metal fires that can strip the oxygen out of water. With battery fires you can only hope to stop the fire spreading to non battery stuff around them and keep the battery cells that haven't been compromised cool, water is perfectly fine for that.

Maybe there is a reason why they are so cheap in China and so expensive in Europe? They have to make sure that every single one works and does not burn.
they even put it on the news yesterday how cheap these cars are in china. to me it was an instant red flag despite my dad defenitely being impressed by their price. all i could think is : how safe are they really?
@@wolfgangpreier9160 not sure about the EV's, but like in the Netherlands, all they care is if a vehicle can safely stop and do not fall apart, the whole maintenance is setup to be that way.
I mean I had a broken airbag in my old car for ages and nobody cared.
Not even the RDW (the instance that arranges all these car stuff in the Netherlands).
Besides, their car will most likely perform barely in those margins and if the car burns up after a year (or 2) or something, it will take time before everyone is up to speed to see how much garbage the Chinese cars are. I really doubt there is a difference between the cars here and the cars in China. After looking into the pricing for a new EV Car from BYD and some other european vendors, and BYD is actually cheaper than most, and a bit more expensive than Dacia.. By doing so, they maybe able to get foot on EU with cars and cash in the money.
Haven't seen other vendors from china at the moment luckily.
@@smarseille7422 "I mean I had a broken airbag in my old car for ages and nobody cared." One year max. in Germany or Austria. Then you car is impounded.
If one car burns they must make a recall - as Hyundai, Ford and Toyota had to do and replace the batteries. If they do not react they are forced by the KBA in Germany.
If the chinese think they can get through with bad quality they will have a very abrupt and very bad awakening in a very short time.
Tesla needed a few years to shed its bad reputation of batteries burning.
VW still has a bad reputation of not beeing able to do Software.
When BYD thinks they can get away with rusted cars, breaking safety systems or breaking bolts in the supsension, they should ask Toyota how that feels.
Since when does a Dacia cost 72.000 Euros? Thats the price of the BYD Tang or Han. The Atto III with the small battery costs 43K. The large battery 46K. Just 400,-- less than a Model Y. And 7000,-- more than a Peugeot similar sized Peugeot E-208.
That is NOT cheap. And that is certainly NOT chepar than their European competitors.
Nio tries with high priced and low value vehicles.
XPeng the same. High price but visibly low quality. Bad Software etc.
MG sells actually quite good in the low priced segment. Quality and workmanship are worth the price.
Polestar and Volvo (Geely) are quite reasonably priced for upper class luxury vehicles.
BYD would have to deliver good quality for a reasonable price. Atto III 35K, Tang: 50K, Han: 40-45K, Dolphin 25K, Seal 50K. 8 years and 200.000km warranty on everything.
Even better: Toyota gives you 1 Million Kilometers warranty.
Thats why the BZ4X - in my opinion the worst EV from 2022 - sells so good in norway.
They have much "Salz and Schmutz" (quote from Teslabjörn) and cars usually only last 3-5 years in those conditions.
Toyota will have much repairs to do. But they let the customers pay for the privilege. I don't mind. Norwegians are rich, they shall pay.

Update:
There are short video clips of the car on fire, taken by people who were trying to help put it out, before the damn tank exploded and everyone ran for it. Not only has it been identified as a Land Rover Range Rover Sport, the number plate could be read, and someone looked up its MOT details online. It's a 2014 (I think) model and definitely a diesel. You are a liar.
They seem to give off a lot of emissions when burning. They can't be classed as green then.
Even the ones that don't combust spontaneously increase pollution due to the rare metal mined for the batteries and the scrap and toxic metal released when the batteries eventually fail.
Brilliant deduction 😂
@@bkatbamna That's wrong on every level. The worst lithium mine is cleaner than the cleanest oil spill. The oil and gas industry uses more cobalt to refine oil into gas, than all the EVS in the world combined. EVs are cleaner by far, over the lifetime of the car, even when the power source is a coal power plant. If the EV burns up within the first year, then yes its worse for the environment. But it only takes a couple of years for the EV to become better overall. After 2 years its all a bonus. Especially if your house has solar.
Tesla’s batteries, called “NCM”, include more rare metals: nickle, colbalt, magnesium, aluminum… on top of the lithium. These LFP batteries only include lithium. They are far less destructive as a result.
@@DeeDeeCHAUNCEY And most Tesla's are now being made with LFP batteries. All Chinese Tesla's are LFP.

Jag issued a recall recently for their I-Pace due to a few of them bursting into flames during driving. According to Musk, around 0.01% of Tesla's catch fire which is around a few hundred-thousand. It's quite clear that BYD is not alone in this issue and painting it in that way is dishonest.
Yep, what a shit hole
I am in Australia and I seeing a lot of them, I will never park my ice car next to one. Cheers for the info brother.
…adding fuel to the fire.
Won't park next to a BYD, or EVs in general? Your ICE car is 136 times more likely to catch on fire than a Tesla, but as for BYD I don't have the stats on fire probability, I think China hides those numbers.
But you cannot prevent them from parking near your car!
It's like being in an action movie where cars turn into bombs at the slightest provocation.
Fitting for a Michael Bay film.
Or a Simpsons episode.

Why don't you dare to publish data on how many fires there are in BYD? Just looking for some separate videos and pictures? Did you know that the spontaneous combustion of electric vehicles is much smaller than that of fuel vehicles? And BYD's cars have a lower chance of burning than other electric vehicles? There are about 8.91 million EVs in China. so the EV car fire rate is 0.005%.and the ICE car fire rate in China is about 0.01% - 0.02%
When you compare the numbers, you can see that EV is indeed much more reliable than traditional ICE cars
To be honest, the whole EV movement is a scam. Fossil fuel cars are the way to go
@@southkoreausasmaster8805 This is such a flawed study. On average most ICE vehicles on the road are older than the average EV cars, a lot of ICE cars are also used for extremely long hours, like for Taxi jobs, delivery, etc. So far very few EV cars around the world have a lifespan of over 10 years while there are plenty of ICE cars over that limit. So it's only natural if ICE cars have more fire incidents.
Also, Fire fighters hate battery EVs because although EVs have lower fire risks, they can still catch fire and when they do, it’s incredibly difficult to put them out. In fact, there is no way to put out an EV fire. You can do your best to supress the fire, but the EV will burn again hours later.
There’s only one way to put out an EV fire - which is to temporarily snuff it out, and then find a way to quickly move the vehicle to a safe flat ground to dunk it into a pool of water or leave it to burn itself out in an open field (and emitting more toxic fumes). It is really2 dangerous.
To me EV is such a myth. It's not as environmentally friendly as we thought & it is never going to be as cost efficient as an ICE. Don't get yourself brainwashed by the environmentalist.

I've been in the automotive industry since 2011.
It is not easy to build a machine that doesn't kill its occupants. We've had norms and standards for ages. Those are neither easy to learn, not cheap to obtain.
I am pretty sure Chinese producers cut on those safety features.
Safety isn't exactly the top priority in a culture that treats its people as expendable.
Researchers from insurance deal site Auto Insurance EZ compiled sales and accident data from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics and the National Transportation Safety Board. The site found that hybrid vehicles had the most fires per 100,000 sales at 3474.5. There were 1529.9 fires per 100k for gas vehicles and just 25.1 fires per 100k sales for electric vehicles.
Good research, I also thought that gasoline engine logically also have the risk of combustion, logically if mobile Phone made from gasoline engine is it saver from combustion problem? BYD is one of the top sales in china may be millions of cars sold, need to study the comparison percentage not based on cherry picking study. While improving the savety and to know reducing the risk
Whoops a rather inconvenient statistic given the purpose of this video is to turn people off electric vehicles and BYD in particular. Something like 700 gas car fires per day in the US causing many deaths apparently doesn't warrant concern either.
What a coincidence! I am literally writing a project about the EV market, focusing on both BYD and Tesla. I was in charge of talking about BYD's blade battery, and I praised it thinking it was an innovation.

Some of the fires shown here look like faults in the 12v circuits.
Cars of all manufacturers (gas & diesel mostly) have recalls for fire hazards by the hundreds of thousands, every year.
If you are afraid: don’t install third party electronic systems, stay alert for any recalls, even if they are not in your country.
