      People don’t see it for what it is. Wealth retention, real (God’s) Money, and a hedge against the death of the currency that is the USD. JP Morgan also manipulates the prices for Gold and Silver. If that manipulation stops and true price discovery occurs, you would make money on Silver because the GSR is so high right now. Once you see PMs for what they truly are, then you understand you’re buying it for the long haul.

    Instead of looking at it as an investment one should realize a simple truth. Your dollars are literally worthless pieces of paper - similar to the toilet paper you use.
    Imagine trading paper for gold, silver and jewels....Very soon that paper wont be worth anything but the gold and silver will.

    • @ThePartTimeEconomist
      @ThePartTimeEconomist  6 месяцев назад

      I totally get that, and I try and keep a low cash balance for the exact reasons you mentioned. Every day a dollar sits in my bank, it looses purchasing power. At least from my perspective, stocks, bonds, etc offer a way of fighting inflation as well. If it was just cash vs precious metals, that would be a totally different story. If you buy a company with positive free cashflow, you can partially mitigate the risk of poor market timing because overtime the business is creating value. With speculative assets market timing is essential, and nobody has yet proven an effective way to do that. It really should only be used as a hedge.

    • @ThePartTimeEconomist

      100% as has platinum with is 35x rarer than gold. But silver is the definitely the most suppressed, in 1980 it hit its peak of $50 an ounce and adjusted for inflation it would be a little over $140 an ounce, it does have that potential but I definitely dont suggest buying in for that reason, buy it to hold

    I agree. Silver has yet to do much in the past years. It's "running" now, but I think it will be short-lived. You said gold has gone up $10 since 2011? If you did, it has gone up much more than that since 2011. Just in the past month or so, it's gone up $300 per ounce. If I could do it all over again, I would have just stacked gold.

    • @lo-tar1442
      @lo-tar1442 6 месяцев назад +1

      Gold going up is going to pull silver way up. The FED hasnt even cut interest rates yet. When that happens they will sky rocket. Just the news that Jerome Powell would be lowering interest rates later this year caused silver to jump 5% yesterday. And your right, gold is at an all time high of basically 2,300/oz.

    Silver and gold are wealth preservers not really investments, its also near $28 dollars spot right now, i didnt buy as investment but now if i sold i would make a great profit, silver is technically outperforming gold currently, also I have a hard time saving and silver and gold have been fun and regardless if i make or lose money its still holds value and its money i would have wasted on useless things, so for me this is absolutely is the best thing for me. I have been able to store 10x what i would in digital or cash and this week i have made a large potential profit, however i wouldnt be too upset if it did go down. Bullets are also a good investment.

    • @ThePartTimeEconomist
      @ThePartTimeEconomist  6 месяцев назад

      I do think you have a point about the difficulty of saving paper money. To be fair, my silver investment was NOT at all a way of preserving wealth since it fell in value by almost half. That being said, I wasn't super into investing back then, so if I didn't buy silver, I probably would have blown the money on something dumb. So, even if I lost purchasing power, I at least have something to show for it. In that respect, it was better to loose 50% on silver as opposed to loosing 100% by reckless spending.

    That's some bad luck. But chasing a trend often (not always) ends badly. I got pretty nervous about the economy in 2018. And just generally felt some really bad times were ahead. I did research about what should one own if the economy crashes and precious metals were at the top of the list. I bought all mine at around 15, and the premiums were almost nothing back then. And bought a bunch of gold back then too at 1200. I guess I got lucky.
    But I think of it more like an insurance policy for the economy. If there is an economic crash, there will still be food. Fields and crops won't disappear. All food producers won't go out of business. It might be more scarce and expensive though, especially certain types of food. I'm not picturing Mad Max, I'm picturing the great depression or the Weimar Republic in Germany. People who hoarded gold and silver coins kept their quality of life, which is why the US gov confiscated them and made them illegal to own. In Weimar Germany (or Venezuela is a more recent example), though, paper money became increasingly worthless while those with gold and silver coins (or anything of value) used them to buy food directly from farmers. They didn't need to worry about spending all their money by the end of the day because prices would be up 20% tomorrow.
    I'm not saying it will definitely happen again, I'm just saying that I feel better having some just in case. If I never need it, all the better. I don't plan to buy more though.

  • @GatorGoldChannel
