Hi everyone... I got a lot of comments about zip ties... You can absolutely make these with zip ties! last year when I made these, there was a reason why I chose to use the wire instead... I can't remember for sure if it was that I ran out of the clear ties, and the ones I had were showing through ...or if it was that my family kindly used all the zip ties LOL. I am leaning towards my family using them all... 🤣 but you can use zip ties... Also I've had a lot of questions asking if they can be put outside. I don't see why they couldn't be used outside. The shelf liner is made of a washable rubbery style material that doesn't hold moisture. However it does have tiny holes all through it, so moisture can get inside. Possibly try wrapping them in clear shrink wrap like used for gift baskets first, then wrap in shelf liner, or just use clear cellophane to keep moisture out of the inside. If the cooling racks get wet a lot they might rust... that's really the only concern. Thank you all for your really nice comments! So glad you enjoy this DIY so much!!
I'm thinking that if you spray the drying racks with Rustoleum, it'll prevent the rust and you can definitely use this for outside. I LOVE this DIY! Great ideas!!
Definitely doing this!!! It’ll be fun to do with my son and start a holiday craft making tradition!!! We do holiday baking and a movie but why not crafting too!!!!! Love these 🤩
I just made a new version using shower curtain rings, a clear bath mat and cable ties. They look like crystals. I posted it today 12/4 . I combined this video and another one where I used clear acrylic sheets from DT to make clear boxes filled with lights and ornaments . Just in case you didn't make these yet there are a few other options LOL. Thanks so much for watching. I'm glad you enjoyed this video so much. May you have a wonderful holiday season with your son making memories together.
My daughter just asked me to make her some pre-Xmas decorations she can enjoy throughout the season. These are perfect. Thank you so much, they're beautiful 😍
Loved the idea of using cooling racks! I saw an idea using a square wreath, you get 3 out of one by cutting the 2 middle squares....but when I saw this I was like I have everything right now to do one so I’m doing this today. Thank you!
These are beautiful. Cant believe just a few dollar tree items can make something to treasure for years to come. My theme this year is the red & black Buffalo check. I am going to try & do this. Thank you so much for sharing. Great job! Stay safe and God bless!
Omg!! I absolutely love this quick, easy & inexpensive way to decorate at Christmas. Dollar Tree is my favorite place to get almost everything I need for my craft projects. Thank you so much for sharing this awesome DIY tutorial.
I am impressed! I have just been watching the haul videos. This is the 1st diy vid for me and I love this! Huge impact for little money! You are so talented!
Dont know if anyone gives a damn but if you guys are bored like me atm you can stream all of the new movies and series on InstaFlixxer. Have been watching with my brother recently =)
I love the look of your gift boxes way more than the expensive gift boxes...and it looks pretty easy to make...thank you for sharing...I cant wait to get started on my own!😊
This just came up on my feed. For some reason I didn't get it last year. Great idea using cooling racks. I think I would make them with a lid, hinged by the wires when cutting the wire racks, so I could get to burnt out bulbs and could store Christmas bobbles, after Christmas in them. I would take a couple of extra racks but save room during storage. I love the idea, Thankyou for sharing.
you could also cut a hole in the bottom, since that part really wouldnt be seen, or leave a part of the corner where the lights go in open like a flap. Use only a small floral wire to close back down instead of glue that you would have to separate and ruin the project.
Using this shelf liner is probably the BEST idea I've seen so far! I attempted making some last year and it was a disaster. I'm actually inspired to try it again.
Thank you. I hope you will try again. I thought about the shelf liner because I needed something that if someone put it outside it could get wet. Also it has those little spaces so you can see the light shine through. I think one of my kids at the store was holding it or standing by it and I had a light bulb moment when I saw it lol. I've seen other people remake these and they use extra cooling racks and zip tie them together with cable ties to make the "box" It's a really great idea too.
I probably used the same stuff as you and yep, it was a disaster. I yanked that crap off and started over. So, you're not the only one. The shelf liner was 1000 times easier. I just finished and now I love it.
They turned out sooooo beautiful and professional looking. These would cost$$$$$$ if you found them in Micheal's or Hobby Lobby and they probably wouldn't look as nice. GREAT JOB!
WOW WOW WOW. When I first saw this I was ready to flick over to something else. Boy am I glad I watched it right through and as we do not have the $$$$$ tree here in Aust I am off in the morning to our Cheap shops to get everything I need to make this Needless to say YOU are now in my booklist to follow. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this idea and THANK YOU
It’s like you read my mind! I saw these advertised and wanted to make them! I couldn’t figure out where to get the frames! Ta Da! You came through! Thanks! Amazing!
This was such a wonderful craft idea. I have admired these lighted boxes in stores and catalogs. Thank you for this video to make one all my own in an inexpensive way. I really enjoyed your video and you did an Amazing job with the tutorial. Can't wait to try this myself. This will be a great alternative decoration since I am not putting up a Christmas tree.
I like the wire instead of tie backs. However if no other choice there are small tiebacks that can be utilized where it will barely show . Love this idea. 😀 This is a craft that will save you money as opposed to buying these boxes at stores. Thank you for sharing!
Love, love, love this project! They are so ridiculously expensive in retail stores! Thank you so much for your brilliant video with excellent step-by-step instructions. Excellent!!! I'm a new subscriber! ❤❤❤😊😊😊🎄🎄🎄☃️☃️🎄🌲🌲
Out of all the videos I've seen for this project, I like this one the best. I have used milk crates, but this one is much lighter. I think that I will purchase four extras and make a larger one for a set of three. I went to a store this past weekend, and they wanted $120 for the three. remember paying only $39 for a set of three a few years ago. Thanks for your idea!
Great Tutorial for those that don't know how to make these pkgs!!! I do them the same way except I use tie wraps instead of the floral wire to attach and mesh ribbon to cover box in the 10 inch size which fits perfectly on the LG pkg plus an ornament on the top ribbon......Yours is real cute......Good job ❤
Thank you for this video. I changed and used the shelf liner. What a difference and it made it so much easier. The only difference is i used the battery operated 7 ft. fairy lights from Amazon. Mine is done and I love it. Thank you, thank you
I absolutely love this idea and plan to make them, however everyone, PLEASE USE LED LIGHTS. Other lights like those pictured produce heat and is a safety hazard. I would hate for anyone to light their home or yard on fire. I nearly did this year during Halloween using these lights. Be safe yall! Once again, this is an amazing idea! I never would've thought of it.
Thank you for sharing this video. My 7 year old looks at all the outdoor decorations and wishes we could put some too.. I think this is the one I will start making with her. It’s so budget friendly yet is as exquisite as the ones that are sold.
SO Clever! And SO pretty! I have wanted these as a decoration for years-- I'm heading over to Dollar Tree this morning! Thank you. If you give decorations as gifts (which I do sometimes), these would also make a great gift. :D
I wish saw ur idea first. I created mine using milk crates. They took a bit of creativity but u wouldn't know they are milk crates underneath. Thanks again. I will subscribe.
These are just about the cutest things that I have seen so far!!! I love the way you have made them using the cooling racks & the shelf liner!! I am saving this video because I know I want to try & make a couple of these for the bay window in my kitchen, Thank you for the inspiration ... I hope y'all had a blessed Thanksgiving!!!
If I remember correctly they are 16x10”, and 16x5”…I made them last year and I still have them in storage or I’d measure them for you. This should be close to the finish size because the wire cooling racks from Dollar Tree are 16x10” 🙂 I hope this helps. Thanks so much for the compliment. Happy Holidays!
I am in love with this and cannot wait to try it! Thank you for your amazing video. Happy holidays! ❤️ UPDATE!! So I made two of the large ones and I am obsessed. Thank you so much! I wish I could post a picture to show you how great your directions and video were.
Zip ties will work too. I think at the time either my kids had used them all or the ones I had were black and were showing... I can't remember which one it was , I made these last year lol.
So beautiful! My husband had to throw out his present boxes he was given. They were red. I would love ❤ to make these to replace them. They are much prettier then the ones he threw out.
SO ... this is one of the sweetest and most original Christmas DIY's for 2020 that I have seen. The boxes turned out perfect and it was a pleasure to listen to your tutorial as you spoke in a gentle calm way. 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
That is so so cute thanks for sharing I have great idea for them I have two wooden spools going on top of each other then I’m going to put all around on those
Such a creative and awesome idea! Can't wait to make them and I love the fact that after you make the basic box you can decorate your gift however you want to. Yours came out so beautiful. Have a wonderful safe holiday season. Merry Christmas🎁
Thank you so much. I agree there are so many options to decorate them instead of being stuck with the one version every store seems to sell. I hope you have a wonderful Holiday and Merry Christmas to you and your family!
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL XX My sister & I are going to have a Craft day & make your boxes xx Thank you for your precious time & never realised how easy they were to make 👌👌👌🎅🤗
This looks very easy to do however I would not use wire to secure the lights. To easy for the wire to rub through the protective coating on the light wire. I would use small plastic zip ties.
Beautiful idea. I’ve always wanted to make decorative presents like that glad I came across your tutorial. Thanks so much. You make it look so easy. I’m definitely going to try 😁🌹

@Preston Gary Definitely, been using instaflixxer for since november myself :)
OMG! This makes way more sense than other videos I've seen. They glued sticks together to make the boxes. I was like, I ain't doin that. 😂 thank you!

You can also use natural burlap or colored ones. This is such a simple but an amazing diy decorative project. Thanks for sharing.
This is such a cute idea! I think I would use zip ties to join the racks and lights. Thank you for sharing this wonderful idea.
