Couldn’t relate more to “I was stressed for trying not to be stressed”
Poor kid, I cannot begin to imagine how she must be feeling. God bless you, sweetheart.
This girl is so brave. Hugs to you Nicole. You're an amazing person.
I hate how doctors dismiss so many problems of their patients. This went on so long without a proper diagnosis....unforgivable
X. Y. Disorders that only present as pain, are difficult to diagnose. They were fortunate that the oral surgeon could diagnose her.
X. Y. Tell me about it, I’ve been going through this since I was 10
To be fair, most doctors aren't House. When you hear hoofbeats it's not a natural conclusion to think zebras. You have to investigate the possibility of horses first because the most common illness is usually the right one, you have to eliminate that first.
My son when he was 11 started having all over muscle tensing over a couple days it progressed to muscles twitching and tensing to the point he couldn't walk. His personality was changing and his eyes stopped moving. We went to the er 3 times, each with a diagnoses of "it's the flu" or "he's faking".
I threatened them with a lawsuit the 4th and they life flighted him to salt lake city Utah. The dr's in salt lake diagnosed my son with encephalitis. He's fully recovered with only some weakness in his hands but he's still attending a couple different therapies.
I've been going through that since I was 12. Got dismissed and fobbed off with "you are just imagining it" and "it's nothing", even "stop bothering us" by doctors. Now as an adult I'm having to cope with the consequences of getting fobbed off - two disfiguring conditions that take me several hours to try to cover up every day, numerous autoimmune conditions, and no chance of a normal life.
What kind of a doctor would think that excessive hair loss like that is "normal?" He was writing her off! What an absolutely ridiculous thing to say! SMH
Happened to me, and the doctor wouldn't believe me. Quote: "its normal to lose 100 hairs a day" and i knew that but u was losing thousands a day so I collected my hair to bring it in and show them. Turns out It was caused by hashimotos disease. Doctors dismiss people all the time particularly if the patient is a woman.
If someone comes back to you, as a doctor. Maybe... Just maybe... There's something wrong with them so don't dismiss them
If a doctor is not sure they must stop assuming! Get an MRI done immediately! The patient has to go through soo much trauma until correctly diagnosed! ASSUME=ass u me!
it's all about $$$$$ .. testing costs lots of $$$$ so for example if she is a medicaid patient they will do everything they can before wanting to spend the money...like everything in america healthcare is all about money and not at all about actually providing quality care
Come on, what normal, healthy teenager has clumps of hair coming out??
That's for sure NOT normal! Or healthy!
Not true. Nerves are a beast with a teenanger.
Exactly, and stress does not cause hair to fall out! This is a common misconception with stress causing alopecia. It does not.
I went through the same, developed alopecia at 12. Got fobbed off by doctors, told I was "just imagining it". Now as an adult I have to cope with wigs and scarves and my hair follicles are destroyed so there is no chance of regrowth.
No misconception at all. She was tested from one end to the other believe me.
My 14yr old was in Honor classes and the teachers put so much stress on her to keep up the straight As..they wanted her in Advanced HS and College classes. She was doing 8hrs of school.. And 3hrs of HS and another 2 of College classes. She started to lose her hair and at 1st she thought it was normal. Then it got so bad she wouldnt take her cap off. After 2mths i asked to see her hair. There wasnt enough for a ponytail. I took her out the next Monday. The principal and teachers didn't want to put her in regular classes. They refused. It took 2 weeks to take her out of everything and just do a normal school day. She was back to normal in a month.
@@joanbeavers9137 I truly hope she is welll and feeling better
It took a year for doctors to diagnose me with Graves Disease(thyroid). I was told my symptoms were all in my head.
I don't know what that is but I can understand the frustration of not being believed. I'm glad you got your final diagnosis in the end. We know our bodies more then some drs believe!!
Jeannine The Cool Mom Happened to my mom too this month after a years. Just now getting help, it’s amazing how you can just be brushed off.
It took 24 years before I finally was diagnosed with endometriosis and adenomyosis... I'm still mad and don't trust doctors anymore 😅
She still beautiful.
Drs blame everything on anxiety
Unless it's actually anxiety, then it's fake
At one point I had actually developed an ulcer in my stomach after experiencing a trauma when I was 12 and couldnt eat anything. Took them months to figure out why. Got super skinny though, so bonus!
@@legallyrequired Everything about your comment is sad...
Only if their patient is a female.
I had a lot of stomach issues as a kid that turned out to be from anxiety. Once I grew up a bit, the stomach pain went away. Anxiety can manifest into physical symptoms if it’s bad enough. It’s also the most common mental illness in the US, so of course most doctors will blame anxiety for things
Yes! I love Mystery Diagnosis! Keep 'em coming!!
That’s pretty cool her DENTIST found her syndrome, and the actual doctors had a hard time.
My cousins neurologist found her eds, and through that mine
A dentist IS an actual doctor.
BlueBae People need to respect dentists. Had a friend who was diagnosed with mouth cancer a year before Dr found it. Sadly he didn’t do anything about it and died very soon after.
He is more then a dentist....
....dentists are still doctors just of the mouth and teeth. Taint th wile wile West
Nichole is still a beautiful girl...I wish her all the best...
Bless her! I wish her much luck and love!
The doctors couldn’t have been more useless in what happened here. Amazing how this young girl was in so much pain and they couldn’t at least help her out with that.
The guy made an amazing recovery!Wish him the best!
Respect Nichole!
Be loud and proud
All the best for your recovery ❣️
And to this day Nichole Beavers is still my hero. I love you baby girl!
Awe! Love you guys! She is amazing! Bless your family!!!!♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Tell her she's still beautiful ❤️
Much love and the best of luck to you guys!
Please give us an update.
She's gorgeous inside and out! I love her attitude, wisdom, and motivation. She's highly intelligent and will go very far in life ❤ 🤍 💙
I wonder how much shorter these documentaries would be if they didn't constantly recap.
This show is terrible for my health anxiety but I can't stop watching
CaptPicard81 same
Weird part is when Nichole mom just realise about the change on Nichole face through the picture.
When you see a drastic change progress daily you dont realize how drastic it really is. Not until you see if from the pov of someone who last saw her healthy. Like looking at an old photo and a new one
one thing i hate about this show is when they do that music and pans to a close up of their eyes
I know. It’s ridiculous
idk why but this made me laugh
😂
deborah west - life is way too short to get irked by something so insignificant. Save your energy. We're all going to have to use all our energy to get through the situation at hand.
@@jsvendsen6256 life is way too short for you to tell me what should say or not
This brave young woman is so bright and I'm sure she'll make a success of her life.
you were very brave to have gone through this
I love these, you get to see how the doctors figure out the problems and that even professionals make mistakes and can't figure out what's going on.
I’m just confused why they didn’t do blood test on the first doctors visit, I know my dr would of
Which story are you talking about
If it's the first story, maybe you should listen again. The answer was mentioned & it wasn't money
since it happened right after the barbecue, i kind of like 90% suspected it was something from undercooked meat (especially when the diarrhea occurred)
Agreed
Great news Kevin
So happy for your recovery! 😊
The amount of pain Nichole has gone thru isn’t something any child should go thru. She is still beautiful no matter what. I’m sorry that it she had to go thru the bullies that made her drop out of school. Keep your head held high Nichole. You are a fighter.
I’d love to know how she’s doing now. Does anyone know how/if we can find out?
Her mamma posted in the comment above
She is still very cute in my opinion. I hope both are well and happy in 2020.
Jeeze, I understand mom worked long hours but how can you not see your daughter deteriorate right in your own home?
This sounds ridiculous, but when you are 'on top' of a problem, it is hard to see.
If her daughter was distancing herself then it could go unnoticed. Many parents don’t realize their kids have an eating disorder till it accidentally comes out.
When ppl lose weight or change as u live with them u wont notice. Its something our brains do. Brain games show explains this topic
I’m okay when doctors don’t have the answer, but saying there’s nothing wrong and not investigating further or referring to someone else?? That’s gotta be malpractice there.
This is parental neglect. How can you simply ignore this could be a nerve impingement affecting the development of your child's face? You get a second opinion if you seem to have an an incompetent doctor when your child is young. This should never have gotten this bad.
That’s exactly what I thought!😡
That's the American healthcare system right there.
Your still beautiful young sweetheart! Bless you and know that you are amazing!
Im laughing at myself right now cuz the entire second story I kept saying over and over again: Guillain Barre! Hello!! I could've diagnosed this FIVE DAYS AGO!! .....🙄😏😞😂👏
Dang! Great diagnosis!!
But it IS NOT GUILLAIN BARR! So you’re WRONG!!!
I really admire the bravery and confidence of Nicole. Losing half your face at any age must be terrifying and scary and destroy confidence. But the girl in the first part of this video is so brave, determined and lovely I hope she will get some happiness in life. She is so beautiful I couldn’t imagine loosing my hair and face. I hope she will be
Nicole is strong. All the things she went through. I think she's a really cool person!
Thank goodness for these great doctors
Lol if this was my mom, she'd just accuse me of doing drugs 😂
happy5808 you’re a funny person. You made laugh and I thank you for it ;) I’m quarantined day#5
@@alman6645 day 17... It's about to get deeper in RUclips..
Don’t take this down this is a good episode I love this show!
Why did I think the title said “the girls face who started to stink” until I clicked on the video and she said “sink” bruh
I think the worst part is that, in the US, you still have to pay hundreds of dollars out of your own pocket even if you're misdiagnosed...
you have to pay hundreds of dollars just to find out if there's anything wrong with you and then you better hope that there isn't because that's going to be thousands and thousands more.
In a socialized medicine country, you don't get the option of a second opinion. You're done. No more options. And you still pay for it through your taxes.
Her mom let her down...I wouldn’t have stopped until I got some f’ng answers
She didn’t have a lot of money & if they accept your insurance, if you have insurance etc etc Her mom didn’t let her down, she did the best she probably financially could
I just have to say that Nichole's Mother deserves praise for sticking by her daughter. So often we hear of people whose doctors explain medical issues as being stress related, so the family dismisses any possibility that there is something serious going on. Sadly, where rare medical conditions are concerned, the length of time it takes to finally reach a diagnosis is 7-10 YEARS! In Western medicine doctors in training are told that when they hear hoof beats, think horses (common ailments). At some point, when no horses are identified and symptoms persist, they start looking for zebras, or rare conditions. Kudos to Mom for her persistence! May I also add that oral and maxillofacial surgeons are the unsung heroes of our medical system. They deal with conditions that affect how the world sees their patients. They are modern day Michelangelos!
This was a great video! Keep 'em coming. When Kevin felt ill after eating, I was thinking it was the food. Undercooked poultry or hamburger is bad news. Nichole's case, I sure feel for her. All she went through and doctors could come up with nothing. An oral surgeon is the one that made the diagnoses.
Its shocking she went through all that pain with the drs not having a clue.. she's so brave.
I'm so proud of you Nicole 👍🏽
American documentaries are so over the top! The music, the narrator, everything.
I think you are beautiful. You have an awesome attitude. Mom is awesome too.
"Oh Kevin, you cant walk straight but GET INTO THE CAR AND DRIVE HOME!!!"
Okay I'm officially worried now. I've been going through the same thing as this girl. The jaw pain and the left side of my face has sunk in. Not as bad as hers but it is. There's days I just want to die when my jaw starts hurting. Like don't get me wrong im not suicidal just when that pain starts up its unbearable.
Brittany Denise I understand what u mean. I hate trying to explain it to ppl cuz they immediately think I’m suicidal. And it’s not that. It’s just when the pain gets so bad, u wish u could disappear for just a moment for relief.
Have you seen a specialist?
To to a oral surgeon specialist.
@@joanbeavers9137 Are you Nicole's Mom?
Go to the dentist & ask to be referred to a specialist or oral surgeon. Could be what she has or another nerve prove. Look up TN trigeminal neuralgia
Nicole is a warrior 😙
HMMM im curious could cause of this be stress ??? her mom doesnt even hear her out
The minute they said “We went for a walk in a wooded area” I was like 😳
I would go to a different doctor right away. He didn't even refer her to a specialist or run tests. The mom needed to look at photos to realize something was wrong
I wonder if his family was accusing her of poisoning Kevin the whole time? his symptoms sounded similar to arsenic poisoning.
What a courageous and lovely girl she is!
Gosh Nichole has an incredible personality and outlook on life considering what she went through.
Kevin had great doctors. Dr. Z really worked at the diagnosis. so that’s why they take histories - i mean i knew they were important, but this really made it real. you never know where the breakthrough will happen
I have alopecia. At age 8 I lost all my hair. They assume it’s autoimmune.
You ever get tested for lupus or lyme disease?
Lyme disease is so under diagnosed
Patient after waking up from a coma
Therapist: "Can you spell world to me?"
Patent: world
Therapist: Can you spell it backwards?
Patient: ???? ld????dlrow...
Me: Wow what a great guy! I could have lost it!
I'm willing to bet, most doctors do not keep up with the articles or new techniques etc etc that come out constantly. They dont further their education by keeping up to date.
They're require to take continuing education.
Kirsten Hodges - you'd lose
Please you need CC = closed caption for i am hard of hearing and this way i can read it. Thank you for listening.
momaceita u can turn on subtitles on RUclips. Click on any video and then click and the 3 lil dots in the right hand corner & pick subtitles option
@@shawneenpady9049 I think they said that because there's no option for subtitles for this video. At least on my device there isn't.
@shawneen pady Subtitles are still not available and it's now February 2023 😞
@@sallyphilpin4939 Thank you for letting me know.👍
I gave up seeking help for my constant issues, Anxiety is a easy way for doctors to dismiss anything. Bless this beautiful girl, I wish I had a friend like you.
Many blessings and prayers for Nicole always! I think she needs a beautiful dog to call her own, that loves her unconditionally! The love between her mom and her is beautiful, the kind of love I had between my mother and me. A Joy!
Hope Nicole lives a pain-free life filled with happiness, bless her heart.
What one lovely brave girl. So sweet,G.B
Annoying doctors whos so incompetent enough to do research or Atleast refer to a dif doc and just say, but rather conclude oh it's nothing just stress
Like then watch as usual. I know i will enjoy it
Can you upload the one with the boy who couldn’t stop vomiting?
How horrible! Poor girl! Wonder if it is genetic.
How can’t you see that your daughter’s face is sinking? I don’t care how busy you are, that’s something you notice.
It didn’t happen overnight, it happened slowly over 3 years. On top of weight loss, locking herself in her room, and her single mother working 16 hour shifts. It should be easy to see why she wouldn’t notice until she saw an old photo of her daughter next to a new one.
If he was sick at the barbecue then he contracted the illness a day or two before the barbecue probably.
I love her personality and mindset she going to due well in life wish her the best 💗💗
A doctor once misdiagnosed me and I almost died.
What was it they missed
I know she’s a better person empathic more loving successful. Why,because I had a disease hit me too
Thank goodness someone found out what was going on! Doctors dismiss far too many issues simply because they do not know what is wrong. Just say that you do not know and work to find someone who does!
Sad if doctors paid patients attention
Shame that there's not more awareness of this condition. I too experienced hemifacial atrophy, though I had a more mild form it would still cause me mental and physical distress. And despite an MRI scan revealing clear, sudden atrophy and seeing multiple Doctors I never got diagnosed by anyone.
It is more common than they say, most Doctors just don't bother to diagnose this condition.
Great Nicole!😊
Nichole is very beautiful and her voice is so cute.
My love, MD 😍😍
Tha doctor think i couldnt spot that wig he has on.
Gosh me too! I was like there’s something off with the doctor’s hair!!!
I would say that mom wasn't paying attention.....that is a big change!
When diabetics feet start to have a really hard time with blood flow the specialists sign them up for Hyperbaric treatments, I think they should try it on patients like the 1st one in this video.
@Karen Soo ...... Both great ideas.
Agree hyperbaric would have helped but not covered by insurance
Amazing.thank u
“I must be stressed trying not to be stressed.” My life...Also, she is a beauty.
I love what Nicole said... When people stare at my face now I can educate them.
this was uploaded on my birthday
I love how upbeat her mood is
Why did it take so long for her mother to notice?
If she was emotional & distance like her mom said she was maybe she didn’t 🤷🏽♀️ If she comes from school to her room, gets dinner & goes to her room then maybe she wouldn’t notice. Maybe she noticed in the beginning but thought oh it’s not that serious then it got serious
Idk? I look at my pets and if a whisker is missing I start looking every day. Maybe her Mom is self focused, all I can think of? Thats pretty Huge not to notice!
Jean Tave Exactly. She would have gone downstairs to get a drink or whatever surely.
love can truly be blind
She's strong little girl 👏💙❤️
I wonder if shell comment in this video ...can't find an update for her
Sure hope Nicole got her surgery and she can have a much better and healthier life. She is beautiful inside and out.
what a presious girl.
What a great girl you go girl your awesome
I hope she can get restoring surgery.
My auntie has this same disease this young girl has and it started when she was about 15 and now she's almost 50 and the other side of her face is deteriorating
