Let me save you some money, in this video I show you how to vacuum and recharge the new R-1234YF Refrigerant
Just buy the high and low side quick connects like you did and then buy a set of piercing can pliers and your set . They are just big plastic pliers that you squeeze the freon can in and it pierces the side of the can and then you connect the pliers to your yellow hose on your gauge set via the 1/4th and 1/2 acme connections on the side of the pliers
It’s slightly flammable, listed as A2L and it’s actually not harmful to the atmosphere, that’s why mfg’s are switching, that and the govt gives big credit for it being environmentally friendly so as a corporation it makes sense financially. As for the cost... it’s Stupid Expensive, hopefully as it becomes more popular and more companies produce it the price will come down drastically.
Slightly flammable is flammable, 🤦🏻♂️🤣 but thanks for watching bud, seriously
just use propane. flammable and cools better than anything. just put the "do not crash" sticker on the steering wheel for peoples feelings.
A lot of time talking about price etc and not actually showing how to actually do what your video describes.Still have no idea how to recharge air con after watching this.
autozone does not have r1234yf because it is a highly shopliftable item and is kept behind the counter so you have to ask for it.
however what autozone does have is an empty display box however some stores may be in even higher risk for shoplifting area and may not even display the box or they are in states with anti diy laws like wisconsin so even to buy the small bottles you need a license.
I have a Ford escape 2017 model that some tech replaced 1234yf with 134a & the symptoms I am getting is, the A.C. system shut off randomly, it will come back on like 10 to 15 seconds later, the fan speed is at 1 could the r134a be the culprit that is causing that mess?
You can fill any 1234yf car with r134a gas without any problems. They were designed with this in mind even tho the connectors are different.
did you find and repair the leak?
@@Yamaha.ha.ha.ha.
Not if your working on a full electric car that contains R1234yf , you can contaminate it with wrong pag oil making the chassis live.
can you use the vaccum pump to remove the freon?
Ucket it - I reversed convert to r12.old school sht works!!!
Smart man
1234yf has a GWP (global warming potential)of 4 where the r134a has a factor of around 1430, the r12 and r22 had a GWP of 10900
The next best thing will be r744 whose depletion factor is 1!
@Mustang Ricer6589 r744 operates at so high 1400+psi pressures that it would be impossible to have long AC systems service life. e.g toyota Camry are known to have the same AC system for 20years never refilled still working. I estimate the new r744 system to have leaks and destroyed compressors in 8 years tops!
propane has a low global warming potential also. you might want to affix the "do not crash" sticker to the steering wheel immediately after charging the system with propane though.
Yet 12/22 is still a better preforming Freon than that new crap
how much pressure on the low end while engine is not running?
where did you find the connect for the new r-1234yf
CONYERS GEORGIA Amazon.com Has It
What if you have a leak with the new system?
Can you just add the refrigerant without needing to vaccuum the system? This is for those of us who may not be able to purchase a vaccuum at the time.
jorge you must Vacuum the system
Why if you're only going to top off a slightly low system ? Vacuuming is when you're dumping all of your freon from the entire system to refill entire system with all freon
What I did was buy a vacuum and then returned it after I used it
@@AM-ry8ls if its slightly low, that means it has a leak. If it has a leak, then the system is contaminated.
I bought the r 1234yf connection but still want work on 300 Chrysler 2015
Is the 1234YF colder then the 134a? If it is colder can I take the 134a out of my 2007 dodge charger and upgrade it to the 1234yf??? Thanks for any info have great day
Nope I've done the conversion from 1234yf to the older and it's much much cooler . Plus cheaper than the new refrigerant.
there are a few replacement refrigerants that are designed to replace 134 or 12 and they cool like 12 (and are only a "little bit" flammable haha). i've used a couple and they cool like a rock star. oh and most have been out a pretty long time so no new surprises
So got a few questions here I’ve never worked with ac before other than filling but I do know I don’t want to pay 550 to evacuate the ac and refill it after dropping 2k on parts while having to do it myself anyways due to a compressor taking a crap and not wanting to pay dodge to break my car and charge a left nut. I have a 16 hellcat challenger and bought ac compressor, liquid line, condenser, ac expansion valve, and radiator with coolant tank because the system is gunked up so figured do it all in one shot. So my questions are how much r1234yf does a hellcat take? And how do you evacuate the system properly? What tools are needed for a diy evac and fill of the proper amount correctly. What are some ways to find out everything is sealed up. Gonna do it in 2 weeks so all information and tricks to this are extremely welcome thank you.
You find that 1234yf at Advance auto
Did you performed a test that proves it's flammable? before saying it is flammable?
I believe its quoted from the manufacturer as “slightly flammable “
That’s a very good remark. His comment was dumb, “flammable” means it ignites by itself at 450° or higher. Nothing else…
Can i change 1234yf to 134a?
Can i use the R134a instead of this crazy exprensive 1234YF ?
John Doe I have been told not to because it can hurt internals of the system ?
Oh Sorry
English is not my mother language lol
Thank you
Yes you can it works normal I do it on many vehicles no problem this is just eco shit from car industry
@@autoservisdoboj thank you for info
mercedes dealer does it

Hey nice video mr i got a question can i use my r134a vacuum pump to vacuum a car that haves r1234yf ?
Dark Side83 yes just make sure you have the YF fittings.
@@RestorationGarage ohhhh ok i see thanks mr
Dark Side83 You got it bud no problem
@@RestorationGarage 👍👍👍👍👍
you dont need to refill the A/C if you delete your A/C for the car 😁😁😁
It's not old they just tweaked it relabel it and jacked up the price. It's all about taking our money.
Can you put 1234yf in an r134a car?
no oil incompatibility. and will not preform as well. They upgraded condenser and evaporators and on some cars they even added heat exchange for add subcooling.
No Jacob, it would cause major problems in the long run!
So what do we do once r134a gets banned?
Jacob Vaughan it will not be banned to use in cars. It will only be banned from new production from the refrigeration manufacturers but it will always be allowed to be put into vehicles just exactly the same as R12 is still allowed to be put into vehicles in existence from old stock of R12 refrigerant that is still on the shelves of many old warehouses and in peoples garages.
So for the next 20 or 30 years they’ll be no problem with stock of R134. By then you’ll probably not have the vehicle you have now but if you do there will be no worries the price will just be a little high per pound.
They will still be producing our1234YF for probably another decade or more because it’s required for heavy industrial equipment and farm in ag equipment do not apply to the new role yet for several years of using the new refrigerant R1234YF and military they have to keep the supply R134a stock up for all the military vehicles, military equipment refrigerators and anything that needs refrigeration so the production from the manufacturers will continue for the next few decades.
R134a used to be $300 for a 30 pound container when it first came out and then the price fell as the vehicles became commonplace and 100% of all the manufactures vehicles were R134a.
Exact same thing is happening now when I had to buy my first container of R1234YF it was $1500 back in 2012.
Two years ago for our 1234YF the price fell down to $1200 and then $1100.
Last year the price for a 10 pound container fell down to $860 and we are talking about wholesale cost not retail today public that would be more.
As of about five months ago the price has fallen down to $599 for a 10 pound container wholesale price.
But of course the automotive shops will still have to charge a high price to recoup the cost of their recovery machines and recycling equipment and with the newer refrigerant gas you need another new refrigerant leak Detector good ones usually range around five or $600 for each employee that you have one for in a shop unless it’s a cheap shop who has only one leak Detector and make all the technicians share one tool for everybody.
t lech 😎
Do you Have job vacancys for me
Not a good tutorial at all..
I’m mobile Diagnostics and A/C, R12 34yf is readily available at AutoZone in both 8oz and 10lb containers (where I buy my 10 pounders) it’s obvious by watching your video that you know very little about A/C, you are so wrong about so much in this video it’s painful to watch. Dude, before you start making videos you really should know what you are talking about.... Seriously. I’ve got 45 years experience in the Automotive field, with A/C, Electrical and Computer/Engine management Diagnostics as my specialty.
This video was made year ago when it was not available at your local parts store LOL SMH 🤦🏻♂️
Ahhh,, that explains why you couldn’t get it at Autozone, my bad for not paying attention to the date of the video
anthony
can we use or not use the 134a on R1234yf ?
