I don’t think that open water is freezing anytime soon. It’s been open all year. Something funky is up this year on Poygan. The brilliant army corps of engineers has the lake level way to low and those spring are keeping it open. We have had Super calm cold nights already and that stuff hasn’t frozen and is just steaming like crazy every morning. Thanks for posting the video!
Thanks for starting your thoughts on what’s possibly keeping the water open. I would love to hear what others think. Stay on the right side of the ice and good luck fishing!
I just put my SUV through the ice on poygan last night. About 400 yards northeast of the launch off badger Rd on West end. I've fished that exact spot for years. I know there's springs there..I was popping test holes and had 13"-17" all over the West end. Hit a tiny area of 3" of ice and down I went. I have never seen that much of a difference in ice thickness there.
I'm glad you got out and are safe! Thank you for posting and watching. The ice this year on Poygan should be good. But it is ice and is never 100% safe. The experience you just shared shows this! How did you get out?
@@timeintheoutdoors100% correct..no ice is safe ice. There was enough time to get my dad out through the window and I got out through the moon roof. The great people from poy sippi/Tustin first responders had to bring their fan boat out to get us back to shore. I'm back at the launch right now and it looks like the dark area extended out even further to the east. Be safe people 🎣🎣
CORRECTION... MERRITT AVE IS NOT A COUNTY BOAT LAUNCH. SORRY ABOUT THE MISTAKE. GOOD LUCK FISHING AND STAY ONT HE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ICE!

Your number one John! Thanks for watching as normal!
Is it open in the middle?
Thanks for watching! What you see from the drone is what I saw from the drone.
