Taemin is a rabbit hole all by himself. You will not be disappointed if you take that journey!
He got the Korean MJ nickname from his very first few solo songs. The sound, the costumes, and the choreography were all very MJ inspired. Add Teamin’s star quality and particular high tone and the fact Taemin’s original dance discipline was popping and the nickname stuck!
Since those first few songs Taemin has become the most popular male solo artist in Korea and also is always pushing the limits of what’s expected by taking on a darker and more androgynous style in his music. Just the fact he is so popular and innovative kind of keep the nickname alive even though his style is very different to Michael Jackson now.
As a side note Taemin is the youngest member of ShinEE who have remained relevant and incredibly popular since their debut in 2008. Taemin was only 14 at the time and already regarded as an amazing dancer. So even though He’s barely past 30 he has had a MASSIVE career and is still making incredible art like this!!

You want MJ vibage you’re gonna need to watch Criminal official MV and the Advice choreo video. Although for me-as someone who also lived through several decades of MJ-Taemin’s uniquely Taemin. MJ influence is everywhere and when I watch Taemin I don’t think ‘oh, he dances like Michael’; where the real similarity is between them is that they both move in a way that’s different and in a way that somehow translates whatever song they’re moving to into movement in a unique and perfect way.
Like the first time I saw Criminal-the first Taemin vid I ever watched-I saw that choreo and was like ‘whoa’ while at the same time thinking ‘of course, what else could be more perfect for this song than this choreo?’. The Advice choreo practice vid? I have never seen anything like it in my life. The official music video doesn’t do that choreo justice. It’s insane.

Taemin debuted with the group SHINee (2nd generation of Kpop groups). They are still active 16+ years as a group to this day put'n out bops! They are ICONS in the industry. Taemin debuted as a solo artist in 2014 I believe with the song Danger (which has the most MJ vibes, I think). Taemin looked up to MJ so that's why you will see his influence in Taemin's work. Taemin is also one of the best dancers in Kpop. He's a creator, and no one can really imitate him and is why he's looked up to by younger generation idols. There's SO much SHINee and Taemin as a solo artist content because they've been around consistent since 2008 when SHINee debuted. Taemin debuted again with SuperM (being the first to debut in three different generations). You probably will need to start from the beginning to understand SHINee and Taemin's journey to the amazing talents that they are! Guilty is a masterpiece! Taemin is a living legend. He is called the Korean MJ. Taemin made his debut at the age of 14 with shinee (legendary group that is still active today) and in 2014 he debuted as a soloist (he is still part of shinee) .Taemin is art in motion. I advise you to also take a look at shinee, not only do the members have crazy and unique voices but their discography still today influences groups of 3-4 and 5th generation. I love Taemin's voice but when it comes to voice for me the best remains Jonghyun (member of shinee). His voice is still considered one of the five most beautiful voices in all of Korea today

Taemin is an artist. Like Michael Jackson. Some people just seem to be born with the skill to turn music, song, dance into art.
TAEMIN is the most avant-garde and most creative performer in kpop. He doesn’t follow any trends but creates his own style and music. His discography is just flawless. His b-sides are as good as (if not even better) than his title songs. In his earlier MV’s (e. g. His debut song Danger, Want, Drip Drop, Advice, Criminal) you can see the MJ influence but later he developed his own style. He is one of the best dancer (if not the best) but definitely best performer in Kpop, reinventing himself with every comeback.
As mentioned several times he is called idol of the idols - many fans give their favs this title but TAEMIN is the ONE, the G.O.A.T. in kpop (all idols and critics will confirm this). He clearly stands out in the kpop industry with the clone-like idols and repetitive songs styles.
nahhhh there's a reason other kpop idols and A-list celebrities cry with happiness when they meet Taemin; he's a different breed. i highly highly HIGHLY recommend his dance practice and music video for Advice.
basically, Criminal, Idea, and Advice, are an unstoppable combination. But if you want to see his duality I highly suggest Sexy in the Air, and the Rizzness as well since those are songs produced by well-known western producers
He's also doing his first solo US tour next year and the tickets sold out in about 5 minutes!

Taemin has the most vast dischography in the industry, and he doesnt stay in one genre. Among all, he is the ONE who stands out!!! He got the MJ-Korean version "title" when he debuted as an solo artist in 2014, with his track DANGER. Then you will see it more. Yes, MJ was one among those who inspired Taemin into being that incredible artist he is, and his choreographer for Danger was the american Ian Eastwood, who also was MJ inspired. Now, as in SHINee (TAemin's main group, which he debuted in 2008 only 14 years old- as the main dancer!!) they had no other than Tony Testa- MJ's own choreographer- for SHERLOCK and EVERYBODY, and Juliette. Yet it is not like something MJ has ever done (They won several awards for these, but then again they win awards with every comeback...). Taemin grew up with the best members in the industry anyone could dream of, and they have all amazing solo work in their own right. Taemin and Baekhyun was together in the collab group SuperM, a kind of Avenger group in SM for a couple of years, but no longer active. SHINee though, after 16 years, is still active and indeed shining. If you want a more MJ vibe from Taemin, then you should check up CRIMINAL, though I think Taemin has moved on from his "MJ-label" since then, giving us his own genuin, amazing creativity and original masterpieces....So yes, in that sence I will still call him MJ of SouthKorea as being being some (to me the most) of the best and original artist in that immense industry, like MJ was in his time. Taemin's latest album ETERNITY (with main track Sexy In The Air and Horizon), was mostly his own work from songwriting to production. A true artist indeed. If you check Horizon (a heavily 80-retro-synth inspired song a la Flashdance...), he has the back up dancers from the US, who used to be the dance crew for Beyonce and Madonna, among others...Look forward to more of your reactions ;)

Baekhyun and Taemin are actually quite good friends. They debuted and spent most of their career in SM, one of the biggest entertainment companies in South Korea. Members of their groups - SHINee and EXO know each other very well, as many of them trained together. SHINee debuted 4 years earlier, but they are of similar age. Baekhyun is actually a year older than Taemin. Both Taemin and Baekhyun were members of the SM supergroup, SuperM, together with Taemin's best friend, EXO's Kai and 4 NCT members. Then both of them left SM (Baekhyun in 2023 and Taemin in 2024) and joined different companies, which are however under one parent company, called One Hundred.

Taemin is the first kpop artist I heard, and I fell in love with the music and talent.
Oh my goodness, you are in for a ride. I hope you really check him out and the best way to do it - esp. for his title tracks is watch the mv, a live performance and the freaking dance practice. This is just the tip of the iceberg..Taemin for me is the most balanced artist in kpop rn - not only for the charts, but for the arts. a real master of his craft. Finally saw a full concert live last year and it was phenomenal - it was like watching a painting or a classical composition come to life in dance..hard to describe but it was such a great experience.

He is the maknae of mega group SHINee (pronounced shiny), a HUGELY influential and adored group who are still active today. He was 12 when he was accepted as a trainee, only 14 when he debuted, and his SHinee members-the oldest of whom was only 18-practically raised him. SHINee are five incredibly talented and different artists, but when they come together it is pure magic.
Taemin had exposure to their level of artistry from such a young age and absorbed their skills like a sponge, and through persistence and extremely hard work has molded himself into the artist he is today-but with his own unique vision and direction. He has consistently been one of the top trio of dancers in all of kpop, and his vocal skills are impeccable with a uniqueness that is his alone.
Taemin’s duality is legendary. On stage he is a beast-powerful, alluring, sensual, explosive, magnetic, even shocking. Off stage he is introverted, shy, goofy, kind, a little dorky and lovingly mischievous with his older Shinee members. Taemin has been in the industry for more than 16 years as part of the legendary 5-member Kpop group SHINee and he has been a solo artist since 2014. "Guilty" is his title track on his 4th mini Korean solo album, which was released in 2023.
I think "Guilty" is a continuation of the themes surrounding Taemin's previous releases. Particularly connected to his Never Gonna Dance Again trilogy of albums -- "2 Kids", "Criminal" and "Idea" -- and Advice album themes from 2021.
As Taemin has explained, "Guilty" is about a lover who DOESN'T feel guilty about all the bad things they have done in the relationship and they feel no shame or remorse for the pain and suffering they may have caused the other person. Which, if you connect it to the messages from his previous MVs, this easily could be interpreted as a metaphor for everything Taemin has gone through in his career and life. As an idol, he has been manipulated and controlled his whole life. Debuting at 14 years old, Taemin has lived his entire life in the public eye under a microscope, he is expected to be flawless and perfect, and people are constantly telling him what to do and how he should act, etc. However, now that he has turned 30, I think he is embracing a new chapter in his life where he is saying he is no longer going to allow people to manipulate him and he is officially taking back control. In other words, he's not going to feel guilty any more for being himself and doing what makes him happy.
The story in the MV also makes more sense if you pair it with the teaser videos that were released a few days before the MV dropped. In the teasers you will see Taemin being manipulated even more by outside forces and people who literally at one point hand him a gun and force him to shoot something or someone, which is all part of the metaphor that has to do with taking control of his life, etc.
If you delve in deep you will see that "Guilty" could be interpreted as his relationship with fame and the different sides of who he is as a person and artist. Everything you see and hear is a metaphor for life told using biblical references as an underlying theme showcasing Taemin's Catholic faith.The majority of Taemin's songs and MVs touch on concepts, stories and themes from the Bible, as a metaphor to explain what he has gone through growing up as an idol and the journey he has taken in order to find confidence in and acceptance with who he is as a person and an artist.
With Taemin -- and all the members of SHINee -- you will never get the same thing twice. Everything he releases will be a new style and sound and, yet, it will still be very "Taemin". As SM Entertainment's experimental boy group, SHINee are meant to be the first to do almost everything, and they are expected to come up with something new that no one has ever seen or heard before with every release of theirs. As Kpop's trendsetters, the members of SHINee reinvent the industry with every comeback.
Taemin is the main dancer and a main vocalist of SHINee. However, because Taemin is a member of SHINee, this means he can do it all. SHINee are known for the fact that there are no longer any fixed roles in their group, the main vocalists can rap and the rappers can fill in as main vocalists at any moment. However, what they are really recognized for is that they are one of the best vocal groups to ever exist. All of the SHINee members are top tier singers and dancers.
You may find this hard to believe, but when Taemin debuted as a member of SHINee way back in 2008, he didn't have a whole lot of lines in their songs. People even used to make fun of Taemin's singing and they would say that he was tone deaf and couldn't sing. However, it's sort of a misconception that Taemin "couldn't sing." it wasn't that he couldn't sing, it was just that he debuted when he was so young -- he was only 14 years old -- that his voice hadn't really developed yet and he didn't really have a good grasp of how to use his voice and produce the sounds he wanted with it. So, in the beginning, when he sang, he was often flat or his voice cracked or he was off key or out of tune, etc.
And because he was being compared to the other members of SHINee who are all 2 to 4 years older than him, and the other members had such phenomenal voices to start out with, it really made Taemin sound like he was lacking. (SHINee are considered THE premier vocal group that everyone dreams of being as good as.) That's why in SHINee's first few songs Taemin only has a few lines, and most of the time he was just given big solo dance breaks to fill the stage at his parts in the song.
However, if he was really tone deaf, he never would have become an SM Idol trainee -- SM would have put him on the dance track and probably steered him toward becoming a backup dancer -- and he definitely would have never become the amazing singer that he is today. As you probably know, someone who is truly tone deaf is physically unable to hear the difference in the notes and is unable to carry a tune.
Taemin is considered one of the greatest dancers of all time. He has literally been voted one of the top two BEST dancers in all of Kpop by his peers and industry experts. (Kai from EXO -- who happens to be Taemin's best friend since trainee days, and a fellow member of the Kpop supergroup SuperM -- is the other top dancer.) That is why Taemin has been nicknamed the Korean Michael Jackson. Literally everyone in the Kpop industry looks up to him and idolizes him.
But Taemin really wanted to prove to everyone that he wasn't just a dancer, so he spent a lot of extra time concentrating on vocal lessons and the other SHINee members -- especially Onew and Jonghyun (two of the best vocalists in the industry) -- spent some serious time coaching and mentoring him until he learned what it took to match their vocal range and to use his voice. (For the first year or more after SHINee's debut Taemin spent hours in vocal lessons and he would push himself every day until his nose would bleed because he was so tired and worn out, etc. He practically lived in the training rooms at SM Entertainment.)
The ONLY thing the members of SHINee are not good at is lip syncing, so Taemin, and all the members of SHINee, have specifically trained since their debut, to build stamina and endurance, in order to be able to sing live for 3+ hours straight in concert, all while performing these intense choreographies and still sound flawless. When you watch a live performance, you may be shocked because Taemin and SHINee sound so perfect live even though they are dancing so intensely, but that is why they are so highly respected by everyone.
Other Idols and audio sound technicians, etc. who have witnessed the SHINee members performing live are always blown away, because in the parts of the song where most singers would take a break and rely on the backing track vocals to cover their voices so they can catch their breath and recover, this is where the SHINee members actually ramp it up and become their most powerful.
Therefore, in Taemin's live performance you will discover that he sounds even better than in the recorded version, all while dancing full out. What makes SHINee so great is that even if they are singing acapella while performing this high energy choreography, they sound just as amazing. That's why, even as rookies, senior artists would stop what they were doing to watch SHINee's rehearsals on music programs because SHINee's vocal talent is that impressive.
When SHINee debuted, they were the first group to demonstrate how it was possible to sing live while performing complex choreography and still maintain stable vocals. Before SHINee, the thought within the industry was that it wasn't possible to sing live and also perform high intensity choreography at the same time. At that time, most groups would either sing live and have simple choreography, or they would have crazy cool choreography, but lip sync to their recorded vocals. SHINee completely changed the Kpop industry and upped the standard of what it meant to be an idol singer. (Which is even more impressive because they were one of the youngest groups to debut at the time.)
Taemin -- and SHINee -- live is unmatched. It's literally referred to as the SHINee standard. It's the standard that all other groups strive to reach, and SHINee are the vocalists that all other artists try to emulate.
Taemin has released at least one song or album -- most of the time way more than just one -- as part of SHINee, as a member of a project group, as a solo artist or as a member of SuperM every year since SHINee's debut. (Except for the past 2022 because he was on hiatus while he carried out his public service duties as part of his military requirements.) Therefore, including his full-length albums, mini albums, and singles, etc., as well as his Japanese albums, Taemin has more than a dozen solo albums. Not to mention the 2 albums he has as a member of SuperM. And on top of all that, SHINee currently has 14 full-length Korean and Japanese albums, just as many repackaged albums, numerous mini albums, etc. Plus he has held many solo concert tours, as well as a world tour as a member of SuperM, and SHINee has held more than 100 concerts within 6 world tours so far. You have a TON to catch up on. :D
Now you need to check out Taemin's Killing Voice performance. I have a feeling when you watch his Killing Voice you will find that hearing him sing "Guilty," as well as his other songs, live that you will be even more impressed. Plus, you need to see one of his live performances of "Guilty" to see the complete choreography. There is a reason why Taemin is like none other.
Taemin is the closest to MJ as far as musically, dance skills, vocals and this sort of androgynous artistry in kpop or maybe even in all of music.
Funny thing is Taemin and Baekhyun were put together in a super group together which is SuperM in 2019. They are my two favorites from their respective original groups Shinee and EXO but there’s members in their groups that are considered even better vocalists. Would love to see more Taemin and Baekhyun!

So Taemin debuted with a group called SHINee (he's still in the group now!) and the whole group had mentioned that they admire MJ and it shows best in their top-tier performance and impeccable vocals.
I really recommend you guys check out Jonghyun from SHINee too; his vocals are mad and he has some MJ-inspired soul to his voice too :)

Shinee is a legendary group. All the members are crazy talented and incredibly accomplished. Many of the newer Kpop artists were inspired by them and many have covered their music. Shinee is known for their spectacular live vocal and dance performances.
FYI, Baekhyun and Taemin are both in SuperM, which is a supergroup of some of the best male artists from SM Entertainment. SuperM was basically a project initiated to occupy Taemin while the other Shinee members performed their mandatory military service. They have some pretty good MVs.

Taemin is the one and only that embrace the word of art, everything about him is a masterpiece. His songs are a pure sound for the ears and his moves are impeccable. I'm so happy for this reaction! First of all, Taemin is from group SHINee. They are 5 members group and they are fantastic. They started off as experimental rnb group. You should check their debut song Replay from 2008. I must admit that when I first listened to Taemin's solos, he reminded me of Prince and MJ. He has this insane stage presence! And his dance idol was MJ. Whenever he dances, it's obvious that MJ was his inspiration, but for me, his dance has his own essence. It's something that everyone can see. Nobody dances like Taemin! If you want to see his inspiration in its finest, I would recommend WANT or even Thirsty. But one of his new songs Sexy is in the air and Criminal are also great!

Taemin is just another level. His live performances too. He just is stunning, and what's wild is he didn't sing when he debuted. He debuted with his group Shinee aged around 14/15 and he was a dancer initially, but he studied singing and wow- he just makes incredible art and his performance presence is top level. I love his dance style too, he can master typically male and female styles and meld them in such entrancing ways.

Taemin's discography is so wide, but his songs like Ace, Criminal, move and press your number are the most similar to MJ's vibe.
However, Taemin has succeeded in creating his own universe and detaching himself from the MJ image, and now has a style all his own.
He's the youngest member of the Shinee and a member of Super M, a project made up of all rounders members of various groups ( Exo, Nct, Shinee)from his " half "former company, all very talented, but his main group is Shinee. and Shinee is a group with a huge influence and their discography is so massive and can be compared to a whole buffet with different tastes ( as a group and individually) also if you like powerful vocals, it's definetly a full serving 😊 ( to the point is really hard as hell to choose listening the studio or live version of their songs )

💎 What can we say other than THE KING IS BACK!? I absolutely love how deep Taemin’s songs and MVs are…they aren’t just entertainment or for clicks/views, but he tells a story. He wants to make people THINK and question and reflect. This isn’t something one can watch and then move on. His concepts are intellectual and personal.
💎 Regarding the song itself, his haunting whispers with the beautiful runs on top give me chills…the rap section was unexpected, but fit perfectly and suited the song more than I’d have imagined. I loved how the song switched gears in unexpected ways…there are certain formulas that most kpop songs follow, but this moved in ways I’d never imagined it would and it’s perfect.
💎 As far as the choreography…holy freaking moly. I KNEW it would blow my mind…of course it would-it’s Taemin! With that said, I can’t help but wonder if this isn’t some of his best work to date. It’s provocative without being slutty. Not only that, but you can SEE him being jerked around without any hands on him at all. Around the tenth time watching the video, I happened to notice some of what the background dancers were doing (it’s hard to peel my eyes from Taemin!). There are some genius moves that add to the overall look of the stage…some possibly inspired by breakdancing and some quite acrobatic. I STRONGLY suggest watching the Studio Choom and/or some (ALL) the live performances because the choreo is spectacular. The hips, the abs, the arms, the hands…HIS EYES & LIPS ~~ pure perfection.
