  • The NFL has set a record for most Achilles Ruptures in a single season and we are just halfway through the year! Achilles ruptures are getting more and more common, so you should be asking the questions as to why that is happening? If you constantly put pressure through the heels with all your weight training, when you go out on the field of play doing reactive and anticipatory movements you'll do what you consistently rep out. Not saying weight training is bad, but it is over emphasized!

Sorry to hear about the tear. Couple things to consider. 1) Knee bent does not tell you the whole story. Your knee can be bent, but the direction its going is straightening instead of bending. Saying you have a "bent knee" is a snapshot in a moment of time, it's not a directional description. It's either bending or straightening. 2) Just because the knee is bending, does not mean you are safe. It's only half of the equation, and arguably the less important half. The heel should not drop and should be lifting up as you move forward. If the heel drops when you are trying to move forward, that's the mechanism of injury. This is the primary reason for achilles injury, knee position is secondary.
