The "1" setting was probably a planned "Ultra low" setting that they scrapped. The reason some things take so long to pop in and some don't is probably just because they don't have their ultra low models - except for the few that do and hence don't pop in. That's my theory anyway.

Now I have a somewhat powerful pc to enjoy Subnautica's beauty on max setting without trouble. Also, 2:17 your GPU, Nvidia GTX 1070 Max-Q. Are u using a laptop? cuz I'm pretty sure Max-Q architecture only comes on laptop, for thermal reason.

For instance, here's a sceenshot of the main playermodel of Wall-E next to a broken Wall-E bot, placed as map decoration, not to mention the background. i.imgur.com/XVF09M3.png And this is at max video settings. (Great game, though, pretty fun. Bought it on Steam recently for nostalgia, and had a good time.)
Lets name some biomes We have lava zones, lost river, mountains ,floating islands, grand reef, bood kelp, creep vine's safe shallow dunes(aka reaper city) and last but but least we have the cheese biome 🧀
Ngl, in potato mode, if there were no glitches that made everything disappear, it has it's own little charm to it. Like an old style horror game, I could absolutely work with that.
Actually the Medium water quality is the one thing that boosted the fps quite a bit. And when you spend most of the time looking at the bottom you don't really notice the blockyness anyways.
As someone who loves scuba diving this game was made for me. Don’t get me wrong deep sea diving scares the shit out of me still but the ocean and nature itself is just beautiful and this game it’s also very beautiful
