- I worked at the World's Fair in New Orleans from about 10 days before its opening on May 12, 1984 and one day after its last day on November 11, 1984. I co-managed the Bally's Aladdin's Castle game arcade on Fulton Street at the fair. There were 7,335,279 visitors total which was not nearly enough and as a result, the fair filed bancruptcy. The game arcade I co-managed did squeeze out a small profit which made my superiors very happy! It was a great six months with tons of great top name entertainers performing and a magnificent fireworks show every single night. 95 countries had one type of venue or another. I was thrilled as I was on a very generous expense account. Many nights spent on Bourbon Street partaking of the great seafood, live jazz, alcoholic beverages and other New Orleans treats which will go unmentioned! By the way, this was unfortunately the very last World's Fair!

I attended this fair at the beginning of June 1984. Thank you for posting.
I love these old tourism videos.
We traveled in a Dodge Van Conversion from California as a family to attend this fair. As a teen, I was amazed by see the Shuttle.
I was the manager of the Bally's Aladdin's Castle arcade. I hope you got a chance to visit us!
@@RicksTrips most likely if there was an arcade, I was in there. It was the 80's and I was a teen. 😉
Thank you for sharing friend!! Aladdin's Castle at 2:00
Thanks for visiting
Wow tysm
Halfway through this commercial I have counted 4 visibly Black attendees in our majority Black city.
I was the arcade manager at the fair and I'll agree that attendees were disproportionately white. Not sure why? They certainly were welcome as far as I was concerned. I had a crew of 14 to run the arcade and all but two were very impressive black college students. I bet they all went on to be very successful.
@@RicksTripswhy dose that matter about race? Who cares stop race bating whites were the majority of the country and still are, blacks were not interested in these kind of things
Racist

I find it odd that these world exhibitions from the late 1800s were 20 times the size of this one. Not to mention the amount of roman and greek architecture and old world buildings that covered the lands at these old world exhibitions. The 1894 world exhibition in chicago was on 600 acres and had 200 buildings all built for this temporary fair. Its almost as though they used a location that already had ancient structures to repurpose for the fair. Why is it that these fairs of the old world with these amazing architectural accomplishments evolved into the fair that you see in this video. Simple structures unlike those seen at the exhibitions from the 1800s. 🤔🤔🤔🤔
It's us, the problem was the US just dropped the ball on this one. This was also the last one to be held in the United States.
It was a financial disaster as were the several before it. This one had pathetically poor management. I know because I managed the game arcade for Bally's Aladdin's Castle and I had to deal with them. I was told that we were one of only three vendors who made a profit. Many went bankrupt. It was a great 6 months for me though because there were fireworks every night, great entertainment, terrific food, I meant a lot of celebrities and of course there was Bourbon Street!
we still in the red after 39 freaking ass years
It was a total financial disaster! Probably why there have been no world fairs since. Several before this one lost big money too. I managed the Bally's Aladdin's Castle Arcade at the fair and we were one of I believe only three vendors who made a profit. My company was very pleased to say the least!
@@RicksTripswow!
It stopped after this
Yes! This was the last world's fair. I was very lucky to work there for 6 months. I managed the Aladdin's Castle arcade there.
