Guys let me know if this interview provided some insight on the application process. I also welcome any video suggestions. I get busy with school but I do make the effort to respond to every comment and suggestions
Lordpraisethe hey thanks for watching! The process of getting into PT school is long man! It took me 3 years. If you have not joined our preDPT group yet you should. We have a lot of people who repost similar feeling but we showed them the rope: facebook.com/groups/predptstudents/
Lordpraisethe I was working full time, retaking prerequisites, and getting observation hrs. Plus I also got rejected everywhere the first time I applied, so if we counting everything: it's 3 years. Not saying this will be your case but I'm giving you perspectives!
I just got accepted and I start in Aug. I so excited and I really wanna quite my job because I know its not what I want or will be doing. lol I know I shouldn't but Im so ready to start and a little nervous
janisa watts yooo welcome to the family. You will realize PT is a small world. Keep your job miss! U wanna have money upfront for books, for rent if needed, and other expenses you won't see coming. There is nothing to be nervous about, you work hard for this and you made it. Congratulations 🎉🍾🎊🎈
This is helpful! There is no easy fix for the GPA issue and I feel that I am able to accept this now! Thanks for thinking of making this video as well as sharing your experience! I want to go to a DPT program, and am a PTA right now.
Thanks for much for doing this! This video has helped my anxiety go down during my application process. I feel a little bit more in the driver's seat on the road to PT school. If possible, do one again with a different faculty member so we can see another group member of those who decides in admissions.
Thank you so much for this video! I am getting ready to apply to the upcoming cycle so it's good to have some insight about the process. I recently joined the Facebook group as well. I'm learning a lot of useful information from you all!
Thanks for another great video Bergomy. You had some great questions and Alice did a great job at tackling most of them. Really informative. Do you think you could get a video with a couple of your fellow PT classmates and ask them what sparked their passion for PT?As well as the pros and cons of PT school that they've experienced up to this point. I know you are all extremely busy with life and studies, but I think it'd be really cool video. Thanks again Bergomy!
Chris Kelson cool I will get on it. It's a matter of convincing some of my classmates to be on camera which has not been easy lol. I'll get that done In the summer the day the least! Thanks for the suggestion.
Thank you so much for this video !!! I greatly appreciate your willingness to help students like me get into PT school. And thank you for sharing your journey, it's been my motivation to keep pushing !
Wanted to let you know that when you talked about the online programs, those arent entry-level programs, those are transitional programs. They are for already qualified PTs who dont hold a clinical doctorate degree (such as Master or Bachelor). DPTs also take those to enhance their skills and expand their knowledge. As a foreign PT student, i would like to work in the US but its really challenging bc in the USA you have the highest degree in PT (Doctorate degree) wich is unique to the US as far as i know, so in order for me to able to work in the US i need to undertake a tDPT (transitional DPT)... its kinda tough but i wanna do it.
Luis J. Nuñez hey man what's up! I know a couple people who currently attend those hybrid programs and they had a bachelor degree before. It's a new style of curriculum I guess where the lectures are online and the labs are in a classroom set-up. Like Elise said Education is kinda moving towards the online platform so maybe we are witnessing a shift in the DPT education. Where are you from? I don't know much about transitioning as a PT from overseas to the US. What does the process look like?
Im from Dominican Republic. Regarding to the process, its really tough. As foreign PTs (im still a student haha) we need a review of our studies to see if its equivalent to an entry-level dpt program. It involves a lot of time! Im gonna explain a little bit to you how to process is: First, we need to apply for a credentials review, and for that we need, at least, a Master's degree, so people who dont have that, like me (because the degree i get is an undergrad degree in PT like a bachelor), need to undertake a masters degree or a tdpt program from a university that has a CAPTE approved DPT. Also we need to meet the Course Work Tool 6 requirements. Second, if our education was found equivalent to a entry level DPT program, we go through the licensing process, which is really tough because we dont have the same education level as US trained PTs. Third, once we get our license we need to find a job who can sponsor our working visa.. It seems easy but it takes a lot of time and effort, from studying to get the DPT title to studying for the NPTE. But i really want to work in the US and gain lots of experience... i love PT in the USA.
Luis J. Nuñez that sounds like this could take many years to accomplish and it also sounds very expensive. I have met a couple people from Europe who are currently volunteering in clinic because their PT degree isn't valid here! It's a very rough experience. If you have the money and the will then I'm with you on pursuing your dream. My school actually had a tdpt program before I got accepted but they shut it down due to low number of applicants
its not THAT expensive but the investment is really high. I would love to volunteer in the US but i honestly will need the money to pay my studies here and for my family. Thank you dude! Theres less and less tDPT programs bc everyone now enrolls on a entry-level DPT program.. Hope theres still a tdpt program when i graduate!
Thank you for the video! I'm a sophomore in college and want to apply to pt schools after I graduate. However I got a C in biology freshmen year, do you think retaking it at a community college would help with my application? Do you know if there's a limit on the amount of courses that we are allowed to retake? Thank you so much!
Xuying Liang hey! It all depends on the school you are applying to. Go on PTCAS and look what some of the school wants. Some schools don’t allow more than three. Others do not care!

I feel so discouraged sometimes, but this helped me get motivated. thanks so much!
