Hey Andrej, I binged your series while working and I gotta say, I would 100% attend all of your lectures if you taught in university. All videos were well organized and each card is thoughtfully analyzed. You were great to listen to in general. Thanks for this, looking forward to your future netrunner content! :)
Thanks Crusader! I really do structure these things as lectures, and it's been an absolute blast to put them together. Thanks for watching all of it, and the kind words!
really cool series man. great videos. great analysis Getting back into Netrunner after a long break. I would love for people to play more Startup Format
Hey Walker! We've been largely playing Startup on stream for the last couple of weeks! There's going to be a big resurgence of people playing Startup come late-July, when NISEI releases the next set, and the format experiences a rotation. Thanks so much for the kind words! Glad you've been digging the series.
I just got back into netrunner, ordered my system Gateway cards and wanted to do some research into them. I mostly wanted to quickly ascertain which faction would be least frustrating to play against once we start making our own decks (me and friends), so I was researching Corp. These videos have been amazing! I almost want to show my noob friends the beginnings of each of these; you do such a good job explaining the theme and history of the factions, with cards, examples, and even Wikipedia pages at the ready. Thanks for the work you do here
Cheers Flarke! I'm glad you've been digging this series! Have you figured out which faction is the least frustrating to play against? I don't think I could name an outlier. Thanks for the kind words! It's definitely appreciated.
@@MetropoleGrid As for Corp, the least frustrating to play against? I'm assuming it's probably HB or Weyland. Jinteki's traps and net damage are going to be frustrating, the tags from nbn, while admittedly not that big of a deal within system Gateway, would probably still feel frustrating for new players. HB has some very good ice, but you can click through it, so in that way, the runner has more agency. Then again, paying to get through the glacier is a tall order. Weyland is like... sure, they might kill you with meat damage, but the in faction tag punish isn't great. So I think they end up just being limp noodles. I'd then argue, I guess, that Weyland might be the weakest
Just getting into Netrunner 2.0 after quitting in 2014, all these are making me excited to play all the factions! Even runners! I was a Corp Main before :)
Yes! Thanks Andre this series has been the best. I've just started playing Weyland for the first time and am loving Earth Station with Archers/Corporate Troubleshooter/Ganked == so much fun!
I think Balista’s use is as you suggest, outside to shoot what the runner is counting on further in. (Including that Botulus or Tranquilizer on your Archer)
The operation Success, from Blood and Water, also advances a card instead of placing advancement counters on it. As far as I'm aware, it's the only printed card that does.
Aw dang. I thought I was thorough on that one. Now the question is - is the 'advancing' part of Success intentional, or just part of the ever-present Red Sands weirdness?
These videos have been amazing man. I just got my system startup in the mail, my buddy and I are getting our first games in this weekend. I know that these must be alot of work, but are you considering doing similar videos for the other sets?
Hey Michael! Glad you've been digging the series! I'll be putting together a similar series going over the Midnight Sun cards once it drops next week. I'd be excited to get them all done within a month. Welcome to the game! I hope you and your buddy have a great time, eh. Thanks for the kind words.
Awesome, was waiting for this one ! Thanks so much and great job man :) I can only imagine the amount of work these videos require, but any chance of something similar for SU21 ?
Thanks Christian! I'd be interested in going through all of SU21, but I don't think I could do it as thoroughly as System Gateway. I'd have to have a bit of a snappier format, just so it doesn't take forever to produce. Thanks for the kind words!
@@MetropoleGrid I’d like to echo the suggestion for covering SU21. I’ve gotten into netrunner through system gateway and your breakdowns have been nothing short of invaluable. Even if you covered SU21 in a less in depth manner I’m sure there are many many more people like myself who would really benefit by it.
Andre, I saw a video where Ridley Scott confirmed that bladerunner ( where netrunner is based on) is in the same world as promethius/ alien covenant movies. The weyland corporate is the same through the years it just has different interactions from time to time like in alien/aliens/alien 3 its weyland - yutani. So by default mr weyland ( Lance hendrickson) from AVP franchise is wrapped into the world too. I love weyland damage decks!
Naaaah we don't see any replicants at all in any movie in the Alien franchise (though we do see some "synthetics", but I'm not sure that's the same thing, I get the impression replicants are fully biological, not mechanical like synthetics). I love the idea though and I wish it was a thing! (Also, NISEI please release a Jinteki division ID called "Yutani Bioweapons" so Weyland can buy it off them later!)
About Hedge Fund and Sure Gamble, I'll have to say I was a bit bummed that, as Nisei was clearly able to make very interesting variations of many different cards, INCLUDING these cards (Hansei Review and those Shaper pseudo-terminal Events), that Hedge Fund and Sure Gamble stayed unchanged. As you say, there's literally very few instances where you wouldn't play 3-of of those in every deck, and that is, in my mind, a bit of a problem in desing, and a missed opportunity. Of course we'd be sad to see our piles of HF/SG rotate out, but I'd rather had a bit of choices to make in deck building regarding economy - do I want to invest in up-front money cards for surprise bursts or pseudo-terminals for bigger effects? There'd be more choices to be made both in deck building and in-game. HG, being an auto-include in corps, feels a bit like there'd be more to explore in the card design. It's obvious Nisei is capable of making interestingly designed restrictions on familiar cards. Case in point, Palisade. That is just... good reimagining.
I hear you. While I think we have seen some really interesting Operation/Event alternative economy cards (IPO, Creative Commission, etc.), I think there's something to be said about such a simple and symmetrical design (Hedge Fund == Sure Gamble) within a starter product. It's good that some cards aren't mechanically complex, right? I'm more excited to see what NISEI prints in the next set.
@@MetropoleGrid there is definitely room for such a starter set duo, I wholeheartedly agree! Simple and similar card designs with powerful effects are definitely good to tie players in. The small problem - if it's a "problem" even - is that those cards are so powerful they're omnipresent and kind of overrule other options. :) there are only so many cards to include anyhows! But I'm not saying it's a turnoff, just something to consider. That said, I'm a huge fan of designs like Hansei review.
Andre, I do have a question. How do you get a hold of new netrunner cards. I took a break for while and the last I remember was the revised netrunner set that came out. I looked on Amazon and ebay and it's crazy the prices. Is this only on jinteki? Or did another company pick up netrunner? Im not seeing any system gateway or nicely or anything. I'm confused.
Netrunner is currently supported by NISEI. NISEI offers a pay-what-you-want print-and-play option for all of their sets, or you can have their cards professionally printed by two major card printing companies. You can find all of these links on their website - nisei.net/products/ . It's also worth noting that proxies are allowed at all levels of organized play, so you're not at a competitive disadvantage if you don't want to shell out an arm and a leg for the older FFG cards that haven't been in print for the last three years.
Hey man. I loved your videos. These helped me get excited about the game all over again. Do you think you can do these reviews for the other new sets for nisei as well?
Hey Darian! Glad you've been digging the series. Unfortunately, I don't currently have the time to put together a series of this sort length/depth for System Update 2021 or Ashes. I've been considering doing something of reduced scope during a livestream, or some such. Thanks for the kind words!
That's totally true, but there are currently no Changeling type ICE in the standard meta! They all left when the Lunar cycled rotated a couple of years ago.
It depends - if I'm talking about Netrunner's history, I'll often show the older FFG art. Throughout the rest of the video, I think it's entirely SU21.
That intro with the toms is what this series needed👌
