Thanks! Nice ride on the Ion! Enjoyed the walk around downtown Kitchner. I have a dear friend who lives there!🤗
Jeanette! It was my pleasure & a big thanks to you for the super support! Cheers!
Towns of this size connecting housing to malls, universities, and downtown is how transit should work everywhere. The permanence of rail is important for normalizing use by everyone.
A nice place! I never heard of Kitchener before. Pleasant, clean, not too busy. I love that:-)
It's decent!
Ken, Great look at Kitchener & Waterloo. Perhaps in the warmer months KW is a bit more livelier...🤔🇨🇦
Thanks, Steve, and yeah, probably.
I live in Kitchener but have not taken the ION yet
Some day... haha
Wow Ken thx so much for the ride and walk. I remember riding the beloved trolley bus going up and down King Street only. Thx again and do take care.
You are very welcome!
I've got pokey mind (not to be confused with Pokemon). I'm rewatching. Ken says 2C. Chilly. Then I notice him holding a pass with no gloves! At 2C I'm never with no gloves. That gets me thinking of the broader picture. And I remember an extensive time gap till his return trip to Toronto. Whoa! Putting myself in Ken's shoes, I immediately conclude this whole thing needs some planning steps. Such as: Where can I find SHELTER from 2C? Where can I count on a meal and washroom. Meal is an amenity, washroom a necessity. This is partly why I seldom travel. Just too many "what ifs". Like in 2020 I skipped a flight due to the threat of no ability to make the return flight. I was hearing things like cruise ships stuck in harbor for a couple of weeks. Well, Ken maybe simply is more adventuresome than I'll ever be. I know my wife throws caution to the wind more than I do. I can't even make a short car trip without a washroom visit (don't ask). It all worked out in the end, I admit but that just speaks to Ken's lucky streak.
Ken thanks for showing a city in Canada that I never got to visit.
Sure thing, George!
Looks like a pretty cool LRT line. Maybe Metrolinx should hire Grand River Transit to finish the Eglinton Crosstown!
hey ken cheers for showing us appreciate your awesome efforts much appreciated glad you liked the new ride 😊have a great weekend from estelle
Thanks, you too!
This is what we should've had here in Toronto since the late 2000's, but thanks to the big fat moron of a mayor we had, the proto-Trump, Rob Ford, the Transit City project was destroyed and reduced to two east-west lines.
To be fair, I absolutley disliked 80% of Transit City except for the Eglinton and Finch West lines. It doesn’t make sense to built an LRT along Sheppard East when you can easily extend Line 4. Don Mills Road and Jane Street never needed any LRT lines, buses are better and in fact, Jane will be getting bus priority lanes
@@busfanforever, buses break down, have problem in ice and snow during winter, and (even _if_ they're articulated) don't store enough passengers on a major route, in particular one like Dufferin, to be as good as a streetcar or light rail vehicle that can do the same and in its own guideway (also, as for the bus lanes, I live at Jarvis and Esplanade, and on afternoons when cars are going south to Jarvis to get onto the Gardiner Expressway to go home during rush hour, 121 Esplanade buses can't even go as fast as they should because they're stuck in traffic awaiting for the traffic jam to clear.) Light rail would be great for Don Mills Avenue because it would decrease the travel times it currently takes the Don Mills bus to get from Don Mills and Steeles (now split into two, with both the southbound-to Pape Station at Pape & Danforth-and the northbound-to Steeles terminating at Don Mills Station) and allow for a much faster ride down all of Don Mills up to Pape Station/Pape & Danforth.
People-politicians and voters-in North America (particularly people here in Toronto) have to get over their subwayitis and busitis, and not be treating light rail as a tool of Satan.
Great walk. I miss that place. Gawd, I sold so many used books to the Second Look Book Store. I bought sooooo many from them too. There used to be a cute chick with long hair and big glasses that worked there.
I didn't end up going in there, went to the library instead.
Feet up on the across seat is a no no young sir! What are you living in a barn? LOL
So far Kitchener and Waterloo seem fine, if sometimes a bit barren. It reminds me of downtown central city Philly when I was last there (1997), near the train station
and business district of Philly, it's kind of quiet and barren most days or weekends. Not dangerous, just barren of crowds.
Lucky you, you got to get a little taste of the LRT experience. Very nice! I look forward to the Finch West LRT cause it's coming soon. I can't wait!!
I wish that there were more lines than just the Finch West and Eglington Crosstown ones.
I'll be sure to record a ride on the Finch LRT as soon as I can. haha
Hi Ken!
Howdy!
Hi Ken, awesome live video I enjoyed it thanks for sharing have a good night see you next video ❤😊
My pleasure, Michelle!
Happy to be always looking forward to one of your great videos! Really glad to be here!
Kitchener is where I live
I sold my near-VIA house there in 2015, pre-LRT. I'm sure it's worth more than double what I got now... :-(
The train you rode is the one that will be used on the Eglinton crosstown and the current streetcars
the streetcars are a little different, they only have doors on the right and only have one driver area, not two like the ion lrt does
@@andrewisvrycool yep I'm aware of that. Tbh I find them boring compared to the older ones
The LIRR down here is often like that, the smaller outlying stations almost never have a waiting room or ticket office open at night or when it's really cold outside, so you're
forced to stand outside and freeze your butt off. And some stations like Hicksville LIRR have a platform indoor waiting room, but it's gross and smells like pee and god
knows what all else. At least at Penn Station, Grand Central, and/or Jamaica Queens, there are enclosed areas and waiting rooms to hang in before boarding or walking
down to the platforms. Woodside in Queens has that, too, including food and beverages right downstairs or even in the waiting room ticket offices.
It's a pet peeve of mine for sure!
@@TheKenContinuum I haven't had to in ages, thank God. My car is my train! LOL
