My mom usual just uses the back of a glass to smash them, but the plate idea works too😂 so cool to see the different variations people can make such a simple dish
Made these just now and WOW so freaking yummy! I went to Cartagena in August and I fell in love with Patcones and this by far is my fave recipe! Thank you for sharing!
I was looking fow to make authentic Patacones ( i had heard of so much). Hello from Canada. Loved your video presentation. thks for the neat way of making it. will try making them soon as i have loads of store bought plantains. will come back to finish this comment. Cheers.
Worth trying...in Nigeria we have several ways of eating Plantain. It is a very popular food especially when it is fried to go with rice: either jollof or fried or as a stand alone snack. Gotta give these a shot.
@@edithprimavera275 It went well. 10 minutes/375 degrees, take them out, put the garlic and lemon on them and and put them back into the air fryer, same time and temperature. They are obviously not as delicious as they are deep fried, but they are so healthy!
the first versions of these arrived to ports in the Caribbean and South America with West African slaves during the columbian exchange - recipes, names etc. were developed through time in different places
Yes, exactly. There’s a guy in the comment section who is from Nigeria who literally made the same thing with a different name. It’s not a copy; it’s called the diffusion of cultures. And so what if they copy? Recipes like this can be made in so many different ways, it doesn’t even matter

I really appreciate the history
These are called tostones in Puerto Rico, and are best served with mayo-ketchup sauce!
My mom is from Panama and that’s how she serves them too! So cool💖
Also hogao is the Colombian sauce that is delicious for patacones.
Se ven deliciosos y se oyen crujientes yummy yummy

you can boil them for 10 minutes before you press them and then stick them in an air fryer for like 15 minutes for an extra crispy version.
Do you put anything on them to cook in the air fryer?
Wow, great recipe! And with chimichurri on top of them: ♡ #drool.

I'm making these in the air fryer this week!
Let me know how that goes. I was also thinking about microwaving the first step, then frying second. Thoughts?
@@edithprimavera275 I'm not sure if I follow - I wouldn't recommend deep frying in the microwave

Thos guy sound just like me when I cook plantains! I'm looking g for the plantains filled with mozzarella cheese!😋😋😋😋😋
Does the water/garlic bath dilute any of the flavor when you go to fry for the second time?
The dog says yum
How much salt was that? Was that a pinch or a punch?
Add some doritos consume for a nice southwestern kick
Just use a frying pan with a small amount of oil. That's how they make them in South America less oily
Man you don’t need use to much oil or paper towel 😂
Colombia copy from Puerto Rico they are really Tostones and they origin in Puerto Rico
