    Notes about the shine bug reactor
    You can put the radbolt generator in the water to collect the maximum amount of radbolts, you just need to put the conveyer chute above the door. The eggs will drop through the door onto the radbolt generator
    Shine bugs emit radiation, but radiation is only harmful if it has contaminants

    I missed somehow how you are doing your first radiation science. Im using weezeworts. 3 on each side and have an autosweeper do ther fertilizing. Really depends on where the collector thingie goes. The most radiation of worts is right above their farmtile and not the upper tile. Thats where the hexagonal collector has to go. The round bit goes right next to the farm tile layer and I have it shoot down in case the dupes still run around on that farm.

    Keep in mind, the bristle blossoms have a maximum ammount of rads they can take per cycle, so a rad-detection automation on the rails would prevent the eggs from accumulating too much rads in the bristle-farm. Then again, this was set up fairly early-game, right after my hatch farms got sorted, and 500 cycles in, regular plants are still livin' large through that one automation 😀

    hey brothgar, here's a idea fir your base: submerge most of your base inside an ocean of clean water...
    at this point, you have so many geysers & vents that you could make your main base an underwater one.
    it'd be cool as hell.
    and an interesting challenge too.
    plus it would look unique & add some spice to the game, & help with your oxygen situation & ffamerate issue

    • @brothgar
      @brothgar  3 года назад +1

    • @raylenn4444
      @raylenn4444 3 года назад

      @@brothgar exactly.
      plus you wouldn't have a lot to do to get flooded, just letting the excess water from the loops & the geysers drip at the bottom would get you flooded preety quickly.....i'd say around 20 cycles maybe?

    The shine bug reactor always looked like a neclear mushroom cloud. Now we know why xD

  • @mikenelson6630
    @mikenelson6630 3 года назад

    One problem I see wth the farm station and shine bugs is that with the walls open for the shine bugs, the room is no longer designated as a farm, and therefore you don't need the farm station at all. However, if you enclose the area to get the farm, the shine bugs might, as you state, become glum. I don't recall if you get a bonus for growing bristle blossoms in a farm.

    • @poijnve3912
      @poijnve3912 3 года назад

      the doors divide the room in well 2 rooms, the one where the farm station is and the one where the open wall is...so you have an open space and a farm room...
      so for example, if you do a road of doors (in horizontal position) you can create a farm room with 90+ plants haha, even if the room itself has more than 96 tiles

    • @salemprompthous3820
      @salemprompthous3820 3 года назад

      The only bonus off a farm, is the growth-bonus from the station, which I believe applies for any and all plants in the game. Also, the sweetle buff adds on top of the fertilizer from the station

    I noticed that the nuclear waste emits light (I think), so would it be possible to do a shine bug reactor but with nuclear waste?

    • @sicariusdracus
      @sicariusdracus 3 года назад

      Liquid Nuclear Waste can be compressed and generates more rads. Any trick will work, but drop something like 459g of petroleum into a two block tall airflow block O, put a liquid output and then drop your liquid waste infinitely into the bottom block. The rads will stack. Then take out the bottom two corner tiles, and put in radbolt generators, and never worry about radbolts again.
      Using it for light as well as for radbolts would be something!

    • @salemprompthous3820
      @salemprompthous3820 3 года назад

      The waste doesn't emit light, no, it's just the radiation-overlay that shows it as a green "light". No Lux emitions, sadly

    Since you mentioned lag, I was thinking, "Oh I should ask for tips on how to reduce lag." I brick in areas I'm not using and try not to have too many sweep commands at once. I don't know if it reduces lag, but it seems like it should help, so I keep doing it. But then you built two shine bug contraptions, which you've demolished in other playthroughs because they cause lag... so I think I'll just Google it instead lol

    • @JohnRoux
      @JohnRoux 3 года назад +1

      Heat transfer and lots of gasses jostling for position are both quite high on the cost.
      If you want to remove an area for performance, rather make it a hollow block and pump out all the gases, that way the game doesn't have to do any heat trasfer calculations on those tiles at all.
      Try to make sure that you don't ever have many gases all in the same place though, keep your air nice and clean everywhere

    • @salemprompthous3820
      @salemprompthous3820 3 года назад +1

      @@JohnRoux ^ this, aswell as AI pathing, be it dupes or critters. With several hundred critters on the map in addition to dupes running around, this also increases the calculations needed, which doesn't help on the framerate. Reduce pathing with smaller rooms for critters, and a closed-loop tube-system for the dupes, works wonders, atleast for me. A clean map, is a smooth map.

    • @ShardyRedVH
      @ShardyRedVH 3 года назад +1

      @@JohnRoux I used to create boxes and pump out the gasses, but it just took FOREVER, so I started bricking it in instead. The temperature thing makes sense though, so if the lag starts getting too bad, I'll go back to the pump. Thanks!

E.g several tonnes of hydrogen up top, burn it in a local generator to supplement the main grid, then remove it once the hydrogen is gone.
